Yesterday in Indianapolis there was another home invasion, which turned deadly. When finished seven members of a family were killed and police are seeking the suspect(s) at this time. Hardly a week goes by without news of one of these invasion that has caused the death of another human being. I remember about three years ago there was a home invasion here in Waco where an elderly couple was murdered in their home. To my knowledge no one has been arrested for these murders yet.
In places like Texas, where I live, this kind of crime will just encourage more citizens to buy a gun and defend themselves. This will eventually lead to more murders as real criminals are killed and scared homeowners will kill folks who are suspected of being criminals outside their homes. Someone I was talking with the other day said that they thought the world was just getting meaner and maybe she is right. It is hard to tell the “good guys” from the “bad guys” anymore.
I believe that at the root of this problem is the fact that millions of people don’t have a moral foundation to fall back on when things go wrong in their life. So many people just let their emotions get the better of them and they start acting out on that frustrations against ordinary people who have never done them harm. Also, some folks want money and material things without putting the effort into working for them. The US has always had a problem with “get rich quick” schemes because so many people still believe there is a short cut to real financial success.
I feel terrible for hard working people who have their home invaded by some criminal who either thinks this is the best way for them to succeed in life or just needed money to feed a drug habit. There is no excuse for robbing hard working people and these criminals who kill people while taking their property should be locked up and not allowed to see the light of day again. I guess the only thing law abiding citizens can do is protect themselves and their families with better security system and unfortunately their own fire arms. Having a good police department does help, but these law enforcement officials can’t be everywhere at the same time.
This home invasion problem seems to have caught on only in the past twenty or thirty years and it seems to be getting worse all the time. I remember back in the 60’s and 70’s we never heard about this problem and that was probably due to the fact that most homes had a gun and homeowners who were more than willing to use that gun if someone broke in and threatened their family. I hate the fact that more and more people are going to be forced to arm themselves again because of these home invasion problems. The truth is that thousands of innocent people are going to be killed inside the home because these guns will not be stored properly and respected as a potential danger.
It’s important that real folks don’t get so scared by this new type of crime that they hunker down and create some kind of bunker mentality inside their own homes. The truth is that while home invasions are still rising most folks will never have this terrible crime happen to them. This knowledge is small comfort to the few who do have their personal private space violated by these criminals and to those who are hurt or killed by people who would rather rob that work for a living.
