Fred Thompson Continues To Grow Staff

Former actor and U.S. Senator Fred Thompson has increased his exploratory presidential campaign committee to include a new heavy weight, Bill Lacy. Fred Thompson seems to have a great deal of confidence in Mr. Lacy who ran his successful election effort for the U.S. Senate back in 1994. Bill Lacy's resume includes the successful campaigns of Ronald Reagan / George HW Bush and the failed campaign of Bob Dole. The addition of Bill Lacy is just another sign that Fred Thompson is gearing up to make his entry into an already crowded GOP presidential field.

For people like me that enjoy good movies and television shows that Fred Thompson has been apart of, it pains me not to be among his initial supporters at this time. There is no doubt in my mind that Fred Thompson is a good guy with powerful conservative credentials. However, I want to see the Republican Party go in a different direction in 2008 and the only candidate I see, so far, that will make that happen is former Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

Extreme conservatism is just as bad as extreme liberalism because both are dedicated to controlling the behavior of others. For the GOP to survive in presidential elections in the future the party must move more toward the center politically especially on social issues. Millions of Americans that never felt threatened by the GOP receive a big wake up call when a GOP controlled Congress and President Bush went out of there way to get involved in a personal family matter with the Terri Schiavo Law. To me, Fred Thompson represents the same social conservative movement that ignored the will of a majority of Americans in order support a small fridge base of social conservative GOP extremist voters.

I personally like Fred Thompson, but at this time I do not support him as the GOP candidate for president. To me, Rudy Giuliani better represents a Republican that can win in the general election against Hillary Clinton and unless we all want to be controlled by extreme leftist, the smart choice is a moderate Republican in the 2008 race.
