Fred Thompson's Wife Jeri - Plus or Minus?

While talking with my 68 year young mother on the telephone last weekend, she brought up politics. My mother leans very democratic in her views and while we were talking she was saying something about Fred Thompson that she didn't like and then mom said, but you know he does have a pretty daughter. The daughter mom thought she was talking about was not Fred Thompson's daughter at all, but his wife. Once I explained that the beautiful blond at Fred Thompson's side was his wife and not his daughter, mom went off on a tirade about Thompson's choice of a wife.

I don't see a problem with Fred Thompson marrying a beautiful woman that is decades younger than he is. However, my views of old men marrying younger women might be more liberal than most folks in the country as a whole, especially older women in both the GOP and Democratic Party's. Many older women look upon young pretty women, like Jeri Thompson, as either "gold diggers" or "home wreckers" and nothing is going to change that deep feeling in there hearts. While I don't agree that Jeri Thompson is either a "home wrecker" or "gold digger" there will be hundreds of thousands of people that will think exactly that.

With Fred Thompson set to make his presidential plans official on September 6th or 7th, there will be an interesting campaign ahead for the GOP nomination. Will Jeri Thompson be a major issue in Fred's upcoming campaign, of course she will because there are people that always judge a marriage as a team situation rather than just an individual choice of the person that is actually running for election. I believe this younger wife issue will hurt Fred Thompson, but that fact will be mitigated somewhat because Rudy Giuliani has even a worst example of married life than Thompson which really leaves the social conservatives in the Republican Party looking at a very tough election year, indeed.
