General David Petraeus Report Next Month

I guess something is flying right over my head with all the talk of troop withdrawal and reductions today because from everything I have read and seen, the General Petraeus troop surge is not only working in Iraq, but it is working very well. Today, I hear a news headline on the radio that says Senator John Warner is now encouraging President Bush to draw down U.S. troops in Iraq before Christmas.

Excuse me, but isn't the reason things are going well in Iraq right now because of the increased presents of U.S. troops? Why in the world would a sitting U.S. Senator want to draw down troops to a level that would guarantee failure in Iraq? The biggest mistake President Bush made was not sending enough troops to Iraq in the first place and when he corrected that mistake now life on the ground in Iraq is better not only for the people that live there, but also for our soldiers.

There is something very crazy about the debate going on right now in Washington D.C. and as a well read man I don't understand why Republicans are ready to join the Democrats in a plan that will guarantee defeat in Iraq. Maybe this is just election year politics, but there is more at stake here than the reelection possibilities for the Senator from Virginia. President Bush has learned from his previous mistake of not sending enough troops to fight in Iraq and now just when his new policy is starting to work, some Members of Congress are dead set on seeing the U.S. fail in Iraq for what looks like purely political reasons.
