It appears that presidential candidate Barack Obama has found a new friend in actor George Clooney. At the Venice Film Festival, Clooney said that it would be great if Barack Obama was elected as the first black President of the United States. George Clooney said that when Barack Obama enters a room he looks just like a rock star. While I believe George Clooney is right about the rock star image of Barack Obama, if Senator Obama does not keep to a more coherent message his rock star status could fade very quickly.
Good looks, a great speaking voice and smooth demeanor will only get a candidate so far. It's the issues of the day and Barack Obama's stand on those issues both domestic and foreign that will either help him win the presidency or send him back to Illinois in defeat. As long time readers here know, initially I thought Barack Obama was the best person for the job several months ago, then he started making some strange comments that did not add up in my mind. When Barack Obama said that he would have talks with the President of Iran and Cuban President Castro, I started to wonder what he would really be like as our president?
Barack Obama is a very smart man, but even the smartest among us will slip up from time to time. However, there is another person in the race for the democratic nomination that is known for lowering the hammer on candidates that make mistakes and unfortunately Barack Obama is running against her. If by some miracle Barack Obama is able to defeat Hillary Clinton for the democratic nomination, I predict he will win the general election and be our next president. However, winning any election against the team of Hillary and Bill Clinton will be a daunting task that very people can actually say they have successfully accomplished. Barack Obama is not running against a person, but against a political machine that knows the rules of the road and how to patiently wait for their opponent to mess up and cleverly go in for the kill.
