Fred Thompson Plays President For Real

Senator Fred Thompson has played the President of the United States in movies and now he is ready to play that part for real as he officially announces his candidacy later this week. Fred Thompson said recently that, "he couldn't afford to announce because he was doing too good". Man did he get that right. All candidates look good when they are sitting on the sidelines, but once they announce and start taking stands on the issues their poll numbers usually start to slide. Unlike some of the candidates in the 2008 race for the White House, Fred Thompson is already a known commodity.

In addition to serving in the United States Senate, Fred Thompson has been a great character actor for decades in movies and recently on the television show, "Law and Order". The personal life of Fred Thompson will come under tremendous scrutiny the next few months and if he has any skeleton's in his closet they will be found and reported on just like all the other major candidates. The human dissection of presidential candidates, like Fred Thompson, is one of the darker sides of politics in the United States. There are a bunch of people that have nothing better to do than spend there time digging up dirt on candidates they do not agree with on the issues.

Look for Fred Thompson's life to be scrutinized even more than the other candidates because he is a conservative Republican. After all the news last week about the secret life being lead by Senator Larry Craig and his hypocritical stand against gay issues, most certainly there will be people both on the political right and left that will look very closely at what Fred Thompson has said and compare those words with the way he actually lives his life. Saying one thing and doing another is something both Republicans and Democrats don't like. I look for a very careful examination of Fred Thompson's personal life being made and compared to the speeches he has made and the votes he placed in the U.S. Senate. If something bad is found, then Fred Thompson could be in serious trouble with GOP primary voters.
