Update: Luciano Pavarotti Has Died
The man with the best tenor voice I have ever heard, Luciano Pavarotti is said to be near death today after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. I have never been a true fan of Opera, but I do know who Luciano Pavarotti is and I have watched him please audiences on television and via the Internet on Utube. In recent weeks, "Britain's Got Talent" winner, Paul Potts has introduced millions of young people to Luciano Pavarotti signature song, "NESSUN DORMA" as he made his way to victory in that contest a few months ago. Luciano Pavarotti's NESSUN DORMA has brought goose bumps to my back on many occasions over the years and it is without a doubt one of the most emotional songs I have ever heard.
More than likely, Luciano Pavarotti will pass from this Earth within the next few days and when that happens another person will be added to the list of people that have put up a good fight against the ravages of cancer and unfortunately lost. When I heard that Luciano Pavarotti was fighting against pancreatic cancer I knew that his chances of long term survival were not good. My own father died from pancreatic cancer almost six years ago and after his first diagnosis, the doctor basically sent him home to die and offered him hospice care to deal with the pain. Something must be done to stop cancer from taking the lives of future generations like it did my father and Luciano Pavarotti.
Some people have made fun of Paul Potts' because when he sang the Luciano Pavarotti song "NESSUN DORMA" his rendition was not up to the standard of Pavarotti. However, I thought at the time and I still do today that having a younger man with a great voice introducing the world of Opera to a new generation will be a great thing in the long run for people who live and breath Opera music and want to see it survive another generation. My prayers go out to the Pavarotti family because I can honestly say that I know exactly what they are going through right now as pancreatic cancer takes the life of someone they love.
