Over the weekend, Oprah Winfrey helped presidential candidate Barack Obama raise over three (3) million dollars for his race for the democratic nomination for President. In a star studded California fund raiser, Oprah invited some of her long time friends and business associates to meet Barack Obama and she also encouraged them not to leave there wallets at home. Barack Obama is far behind front runner Hillary Clinton as the 2008 front-loaded democratic nomination for President of the United States will most certainly be decided by the end of February.
For months, Oprah Winfrey has made no secret of her support for her own Senator from Illinois as he tries to do the impossible and defeat Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination for President of the United States. Like Oprah, I first thought that Barack Obama had an excellent chance of winning the democratic nomination against Hillary Clinton, but now I am not so sure. It is very difficult to run for and win a major party's nomination for President and experience goes a long way when everything a candidate does and says become public record for everyone to learn about. Also, young candidates like Barack Obama are prone to making "rookie" mistakes when they say something off the cuff that eventually get turned into a bigger deal than it is when an opponent takes avenage of each and every mistake and causes the "rookie" to look not smart enough for the office.
I think it is great that famous people like Oprah get involved in politics because their involvement brings added attention to the election process and the candidates that are seeking to win the highest office in our land all win when more people pay attention to the political process. I believe it will take a real long shot for Barack Obama to win the democratic nomination against Hillary Clinton, but he is taking his best shot and he certainly has powerful friends in high places that are still supporting his campaign. With Oprah Winfrey on his side, I won't count him completely out of the race until he concedes to front runner Hillary Clinton.
