The New York Times is reporting today that Hillary Clinton is about to go on a new tour in Iowa to try and get voters to like her. Apparently, polls are showing that Mrs. Clinton is not liked that well by voters in Iowa and elsewhere, so the Clinton campaign machine has charged their candidate up and they are ready to send her back into Iowa to get more voters to personally like her. How they will make this likability sell work is a great question because with most normal human beings we either like someone or we don't. To me, this likability factor business is really crazy because you can't do anything about how another person feels about you. Most of the time they either like you or they don't in pretty short order. To really believe that Hillary Clinton can turn around attitudes about her that have developed over the past ten years or so within only three short weeks is a pretty big order for people that are managing her campaign. I believe people either love or hate Hillary Clinton and there is little any campaign manager can do to change that fact.
Whether the Clinton campaign likes it or not, the American people already know Hillary Clinton and they long ago decided whether they like her or not. No amount of additional campaigning or prepackaged hype will change the minds of Americans that have made the decision already as to whether or not they trust Hillary Clinton to lead this great nation for the next four years. Personally she has not made the sale with me, but millions of other Americans are strong and faithful supporters of Hillary Clinton and they intend to vote for her during the upcoming primary season. Ever since the last democratic presidential debate I have grown concerned about Hillary Clinton's chances at victory not because the public does not like her, but because of her prepackaged answers to questions during debates and at campaign stops. Hillary Clinton's real problem is that she is trying to campaign the same way her husband did, successfully – but she is no Bill Clinton when it comes to her use of the English language.
Current presidential campaigns are so concerned about making mistakes that they keep their candidate on a tight leash in order to keep them from saying something stupid which will be replayed on the news for days or weeks. I understand that fear, but no one is going to win the office of President of the United States by always playing it safe and trying to be all things to all people. To be honest, with the exception of health care I do not really know what Hillary Clinton stands for when it comes to major domestic and foreign issues. I believe this is a result of too many campaign advisor teaching her wrongly to not stand up and say what she really believes is in the best interest of the United States. If Hillary Clinton does not start talking from the heart instead of prepackaged talking points she is going to lose the democratic nomination for President. The American people will forgive someone that has a different take on the issues of the day much more quickly than a person that says one thing and then eventually ends up doing something else entirely.
