Teen Movie Disturbia Not Half Bad

My wife and I went to see a movie today called, "Disturbia". In a world of scary movies that cause more laughter than fear, "Disturbia" was a breath of fresh air and it was well worth the money for people of all ages. This movie is fast paced and is based on some real life events that take place in a high school teenagers life. I have often wondered what would be going through my mind if I lived next door to a serial killer and this movie did a good job of explaining what might happen to a teenager that accidentally sees something a serial killer does not want him to witness.

Some parts of "Disturbia" are silly teenage age stuff that will only appeal to people under the age of 20, but the writing of this movie is fantastic and it is well worth the price of admission. Of course when teenagers are involved there will be a bunch of sexual tension involved in a movie and that is also the case in "Distrubia". However, rather than having a meaningless and endless parade of one night stand romances, this movie actually portrays the teenagers as more grown up than any movie I have seen in a long time.

I do not want to give away too much about this movie, "Disturbia" because I want you to see it at your local theater or when it is released on DVD later this month. When I pay good money to see a scary movie, I want to see a really scary movie and that is what I got today when I went to see "Disturbia". To me, it is a breath of fresh air when a movie director chooses to put teenagers in challenging roles instead of the constant peddling of flesh in shows like "Girls Gone Wild". The writing, acting and directing of "Disturbia" are great and you should consider seeing this movie if you love a good old fashion nail biter right till the end kind of the flick.

Finally Some Sun In Waco Texas

After weeks of tremendous rainfall, the sun is shining bright in Waco, Texas this afternoon and that is a welcome sight for residents that have spend weeks trying to find higher ground as dozens of inches of rain have swamped our area. There is more rain in the forecast for the July 4th holiday, but most folks here in Central Texas have learned to enjoy a break in the weather even though it sometimes only last for one day.

This morning I was reading some news on the Internet about the massive weather contrast between Texas and the West Coast. The Los Angeles area is having one of the driest years on record and everyone has seen the terrible devastation being wrought on residents in the Lake Tahoe area as a forest fire continues to burn out of control. Only a few short months ago, Waco Texas was also in a huge multi year drought situation and when our drought finally broke, it did so in a huge way.

Later today I plan to take a road trip out to Lake Waco to see how much the water level has risen in the past week. So much rain has fallen in the DFW area all the way down to San Antonio and Austin that most area lakes are filled to capacity and they are being forced to release water into an already flooded river system. I heard on the radio yesterday that the Trinity River, which runs directly through downtown Dallas is running bank to bank and that level will most likely rise as two large lakes upstream from Dallas are forced to release even more water after last weeks record rainfall.

Eagerly Awaiting Paul Potts New CD

In a strange way, I find myself waiting eagerly for the new album (CD) from "Britain's Got Talent" winner Paul Potts. Mind you I have never been a fan of Opera music, but Paul Potts' changed me with his "knock your socks off" performance on a reality TV show in the U.K. a couple of weeks ago. Almost on a daily basis I search for information on what the title of Paul Potts' new CD will be, what songs will be on it and when it will be release in the United States.

I have still been unable to find out any reliable information on what Paul Potts' new CD will be titled or how many songs will be on this CD once it is released in late July. Please feel free to add a comment to this posting if you have any additional information about Paul Potts' new album (CD). I read a story last week about how Potts' suffered from depression in high school after bully's picked on him all the time. In a strange twist of fate, other great musical talents were also picked on by kids at school because they were also different from most other students.

While most other people were waiting in line yesterday to purchase a new iPhone, I was quietly sitting around at my home computer and searching for additional information on Paul Potts' new CD. Oh well, even old folks like me sometimes get impatient when something new and exciting is about to be released and I still expect to be one of the first people in line when Paul Potts' new CD does go on sale in about three weeks. I have a gut feeling that I am not alone in wanting to purchase Paul Potts' new CD and if I am right, Potts' with the help of Simon Cowell will soon light up the lives of millions of people around the world.

Fracture Movie Both Good And Bad

My wife and I traveled to our local Waco, Tx dollar theater yesterday to watch a movie called "Fracture" staring Anthony Hopkins. From my point of view this movie was very good right up until the ending which was a total disappointment. If you are planning to see this movie, please stop reading right now because this posting is going to explain many parts of this complicated Hollywood script. The good parts of "Fracture" involved the superior writing for the main character in the movie played by Anthony Hopkins. Hopkins was a successful business man that finds out his wife is having an affair with a police detective.

In brilliant style, Hopkins comes up with a way to kill his wife and not only get away with her murder, but also cause the police detective that was having an affair with her to crack up and eventually commit suicide. In what would be torture for most people, Hopkins planned his moves for a long time to make sure that he would be able to commit this murder and also get away with it in a court of law. In one of the most strange twists I have ever seen in a motion picture, Hopkins then in cold blood shoots his wife in the head and then makes sure that several windows in the house are also shot out so gardeners that are taking care of his lawn are sure to call the police.

When the police arrive, the detective that is having an affair with Hopkins wife arrives to find that the woman he is having an affair with is laying on the floor near death. After some taunting by Hopkins, the police detective attacks him which allows Hopkins the opportunity to switch the gun he shot his wife with to the police detective in the house. As Hopkins goes to trial for attempted murder of his wife he decides to defend himself and he quickly overcomes the district attorney because the young DA has just received a major job offer and his mind has already left the office of District Attorney.

After more than an hour and a half of watching Anthony Hopkins' character weave the criminal justice system in a way that was brilliant, the ending of this movie involved a small slip up by Hopkins which I will not reveal, but needless to say it was unbelievable that a man with this kind of intelligence would be tripped up in this way. "Fracture" was a very interesting movie, but the ending left me flat. However, if you like an interesting script, you will love "Fracture" right up until the ending.

New Amnesty Law Bad For America

At some point in time, in the near future, the American people are going to revolt against the leadership in both the Democratic and Republican Party over crazy back room deals like the new amnesty law cleverly called immigration reform by President Bush and Members of the U.S. Senate. In the latest poll I read, over 70% of the American people do not like amnesty as part of immigration reform, but top leaders in both the Democratic and Republican Party's are pushing forward to impose this new amnesty law on the country against the will of the American people.

I am almost 50 years old and I have followed politics for all of my adult life. Until this latest amnesty law was written in some back room of the U.S. Capital, I did not think it was possible for either major political party to ignore the will of over 70% of the American people. However, now I stand correct on that naive point of view and somehow and someway the American people are going to be heard on this issue when election day rolls around again for these politicians that think they are smarter than the folks that put them in office in the first place.

The disapproval rating for Congress and President Bush are at an all time low level and one of the main reason why the American people don't like either Republicans or Democrats right now is because of this crazy amnesty law being pushed by both political party's. For purely political reasons, both major political party's want to appear welcoming to illegal immigrants because someday and someway they will earn the right to vote in U.S. elections. President Bush and Congress are obsessed with getting as many illegal immigrants legalized as soon as possible with a hope they will reward the good work of Republicans and support the GOP in future elections.

Rewarding law breakers for the single purpose of trying to buy there future votes in elections is completely un-American and this decision by the GOP will come back and bite them in the butt in years to come not only with grass roots Republican voters, but with new legalized immigrants that will probably want something for nothing for their entire life. President Bush and Congress are quick to point out that this new immigration reform bill is not amnesty because people will have to pay a fine. However, it is crazy to associate people entering the U.S. illegally in the same category as someone speeding down an Interstate Highway.

This week will decide whether President Bush still has the political capitol necessary to get something done in Congress against the will, once again, of his grass roots supporters. In future years, President Bush might be remember as the only President of the United States that single handedly destroyed the political party that brought him to power and in the end he might just live up to the label that Democratic have been trying to place on him for years as being the worst President in American history.

Vitamin D Cancer Prevention Debate

In recent months there have been several controlled research studies that have examined the importance of Vitamin D in preventing some types of cancers. Put simply, Vitamin D is not really a vitamin, but a hormone the body uses to control the balance of calcium and phosphorus inside of us. Yes, when we drink a glass of milk or take a Vitamin D supplement it is a vitamin, but after digestion, Vitamin D quickly is converted inside the liver into a powerful hormone that helps our body keep many basic function working properly including cell division and cell lifespan. This control over the way cells divide and the amount of time they survive within the body is what is at the root of the study of how and why Vitamin D might be able to prevent some types of cancers.

I have read many results of these new Vitamin D studies and the one fact that keeps coming back over and over again is that the U.S. government has the recommended safe daily does of Vitamin D set too low and to help prevent cancer a much higher does of Vitamin D might be required. Some people still call Vitamin D the "Sun Vitamin" because the human body has the ability to convert UV rays from the Sun into Vitamin D within the body. That said, with the exception of the very young, how many of us middle aged folks really do spend time in the Sun these days without putting on sunscreen? My guess is very few people over the age of 40 spent time under the sun for at least 10 minutes per day without either sunscreen on or some type of hat or cap to protect our ever decreasing hairlines.

My guess is that in years to come the U.S. government will increase the amount of Vitamin D it recommends we all get each day and when that happens we could see a reduction in the rates of some types of cancer. Let me make it clear that I am NOT a doctor or scientist, rather I am a person that has seen cancer wreak the lives of close friends and family members over the years and I look forward to reading more research studies about Vitamin D in the future. There is such an interconnection between sunlight and the human body because without the Sun, man would have never developed and been able to survive on Earth.

Paul Potts First Recording Session Today

In an effort to get "Britain's Got Talent" winner Paul Potts new CD released before the end of July, studio executives and producers at Sony/BMG have started working today with Potts in a UK studio. There has been so much excitement about Paul Potts voice since his amazing audition caught the attention not only of tough judges like Simon Cowell, but millions of regular people around the world via Utube.

On Thursday, Paul Potts was introduced to millions of Americans through the "Today Show" on NBC television. However, long before that appearance on U.S. national television, over five million people had already downloaded and listened to Potts sing via the Internet. If my experience is any example, I have listened to Paul Potts via Utube at least a dozen times this past week. While I am no music studio executive, it only makes common sense that if five million people are listening over and over again to a recently unknown person's music, there will be a great hunger in the public to purchase Paul Potts CD when it is released.

The real trick now is to get Paul Potts new CD released as quickly as possible without burning the guy out and hurting his wonderful voice by over exposing him to, too many personal appearances in too short of a period of time. As I said previously, I will be one of the first people in line to buy Paul Potts first CD when it is released in July and the amazing fact about this is that I have never spent money before on any person that sings Opera. Sony/BMG is in a unique position right now to open up an entire new genre to there recording company and I'm sure they are going to do everything possible to make sure that Paul Potts new CD "knocks the socks" off of the public, just like his inital audition did on "Britain's Got Talent".

Paul - British Invasion - Potts

I'm glad I am not alone in my deep emotional feelings when Paul Potts sings. In fact, I believe millions of Americans are now also becoming emotional basket cases after Potts' preformed on the NBC "Today Show" on Thursday. What a talent this young man has and to think he lead an unassuming life as a mobile phone salesman up until last week is something that is hard for me to imagine.

Within a matter of minutes, Paul Potts left the world of ordinary and became a superstar. The term, "overnight sensation" has been used incorrect many times over the years, but in the case of Paul Potts it has finally been used correctly, once again. I believe in years to come, Paul Potts will be recognized as the one man that took Opera mainstream around the world which in turn will bring tremendous happiness to millions of people that never had a chance to experience the natural power of Opera when sung correctly.

It was unbelievable to see the reaction to Simon Cowell as Paul Potts first opened his mouth to sing on "Britain's Got Talent" and to finally see someone enter a reality TV show about talent and really have the kind of talent the shows hosts and the viewers were hungry to see. This rags to riches story of Paul Potts' is as close to "real life drama" as I have ever had the privilege to witness first hand and if Mr. Potts' does not let all of this initial success go to his head his natural "voice from God" could lead him to a long and successful career as an Opera singer.

Right now the sky is the limit for Paul Potts and when I think about his amazing voice he reminds me of some kind of "Dr. Feel Good" or something because no matter how low I might be in my daily toils, Paul's amazing voice can bring me out of low spirits and into a place of happiness and calm in my life. I expect to be one of the first people in line to buy the new Paul Potts' CD when it goes on sale in about one month. It will truly be interesting to see how many people that usually never listen to Opera will show up at CD retailers and purchase Paul's new CD.

Crime Does Pay For Paris Hilton

While driving today I heard a report on the radio that Paris Hilton has agreed to be interviewed on the NBC "Today Show" for a fee of one millions dollars. The interview is to take place immediately after she is released from jail for violating her probation on two different occasions. It is wrong that Paris Hilton is rewarded for bad behavior like violating probation, but in my book it is even more wrong for a major U.S. television network to offer her one million dollars for the interview in the first place.

To any parent it is clear to see that Paris Hilton is a spoiled rotten child that received little to no real parenting when she was growing up. That said, the U.S. news media has gone mad in an attempt to one up each other in the coverage of tabloid news stories like the incarceration of Ms. Hilton. I guess anything goes these days in the news business and this one million dollar offer by NBC is just the latest example of how the major news media in the United States has changed for the worst over the past several decades.

With the legal cases of OJ Simpson, Michael Jackson and now Paris Hilton it is clear to anyone with a brain that the legal system in the United States is the best that money can buy and those with huge monetary resources are not subject to the same system as poor citizens that are forced to be represented by a public defender. There is most definitely a two tiered legal system in the United States. One represent people like Paris Hilton and the rest of us are stuck with another one that has made huge mistakes over the years and sent innocent people to jail for crimes they did not commit.

I have always heard that "the rich get richer" in the United States and with this latest offer of one million dollars for an exclusive interview with Paris Hilton, NBC is carrying on that sad but true reality. The real people to blame for the mistakes in judgment in Ms. Hilton's life are her parents. I would be shocked if any discipline was ever practiced against Paris when she was a young girl growing up in a life of privilege. I remember my parents saying things to me like, "spare the rod and spoil the child" as my sister and I grew up in a small Texas town. I'll just bet there was no rod to be found in Paris Hilton's house growing up because she seems so immature for her age.

Paris Hilton is just the latest famous person living in Hollywood to get into trouble after being raised with a silver spoon in her mouth and shame on NBC TV for being more of a problem in Paris Hilton's life than a solution.

Rush Leads GOP To Defeat

Without really realizing it, radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh is leading the GOP to political defeat in the years to come. First let me say that I enjoy listening to Rush Limbaugh and in recent months I have been listening to his broadcasts as I travel around preforming my daily duties. The reason Rush Limbaugh is more successful than any other radio talk show host is because he is very entertaining. Some people especially on the far left of the political spectrum cannot stand to listen to "Rush" because they are so obsessed with there liberal belief system and they also do not have a sense of humor to begin with.

There is one major similarity between Rush Limbaugh and far left liberals and that is both extremes believe that their ideas are correct and the other side is completely wrong. The reason I believe Rush Limbaugh is destroying the GOP in years to come is because of his strong stand against immigration reform. When you listen to Rush Limbaugh over an extended period of time a definite pattern starts to develop in his opinions about immigration reform. Limbaugh is quick to say that he believes in immigration to the United States, but most of his radio time is spent on "one trick pony" issues like building a fence along the U.S./Mexico border. Only in modern times would a true conservative believe that a 700 mile long fence would be a good idea.

The real issue that is driving Rush Limbaugh and other public conservatives crazy is one that they will never be publicly talk about because it is very politically incorrect to express such views in this day and age. What scares Rush Limbaugh the most about an influx of immigrants into the United States are the changes these immigrants will have on U.S. culture. To Rush Limbaugh and millions of other conservatives assimilation is the first and biggest step to allowing people to immigrate to the United States. The world has always been in a ever flux of change and while most of us don't like change very much, in reality it is going to happen whether we want it to on not.

I have noticed in recent years that true blue conservatives are scared to death of change in the United States. The status quo is working quite well for them and anything that upsets this comfort zone within there lives causes a natural instinct to fight against it which is based on a fear of change and losing a good thing. The conservative movement in the United States is fighting a losing battle and in recent months I have noticed Rush Limbaugh and other radio conservatives have started talking like victims when old ideas are suggested again like the fairness doctrine. Just like immigration reform will cause change, so will new rules like the fairness doctrine. I would think a real conservative would work to find new ideas to succeed in a changing market place, but old line, financially comfortable types like Rush Limbaugh have not changed in years and now they are starting to sound like liberal victims themselves as the world changes around them.

Ronald Reagan Would Not Win In 2008

The first President of the United States I remember taking an interest in was Ronald Reagan. In fact, I was only in high school when the late President Reagan first ran for the GOP nomination for President against Gerald Ford in the late 1970's. As a young, idealistic, man I found the words of Ronald Reagan to be very inspirational and also very well received in the small community in the Texas panhandle I grew up in.

Now 30 years later the world has changed a great deal and I doubt if Ronald Reagan could be elected President of the United States in 2008. The first thing that has changed is the conservative movement as a whole and the hard right shift of the GOP toward social conservatives and away from fiscal conservatives that use to dominate the Republican Party. Many issues have chipped away at the GOP since Ronald Reagan use to lead the party. Crazy decisions like a GOP controlled Congress and Republican President getting involved in a family matter in Florida involving a brain dead woman by the name of Terri Schiavo was a huge mistake the GOP is paying for even today.

Then today, President Bush once again went against the will of most Republicans and Democrats and vetoed another Stem Cell funding bill because of his own personal beliefs and those of other social conservatives. While I believe in God, I do believe there is a definite need to keep church and state separate. However, the new GOP is beginning to look more like a Sunday morning church service, recent, more so than a political party built around people with strong political opinions. There have been some days when I believe the (R) in Republican stands more for religious than for a party devoted to bettering the lives of all Americans.

Now most Members of the U.S. Senate are preparing to reward people that broke the law by entering the U.S. illegally and for the life of me I can not understand why long time political leaders are so hell bent on passing a law that most Americans do not agree with. Conservative talk show host that want to only build a fence on the U.S./Mexico border are wrong too because if they would just let there emotions settle down long enough they would realize that a 700 mile border fence is not the right answer for this problem. Anytime a fence is built over that great of an area of land, there would be no way for border patrol to keep the fence together as thousands of people continually tear it down.

If Ronald Reagan were still alive and had the same conservative beliefs that he did back in the 1970's, I do not believe that he would be elected President of the United States today. Millions of Americans that first supported the conservative movement now see the pitfalls of a movement that only rewards those that are smart enough to work the U.S. system for their own benefit. That said, the last thing the U.S. needs is another liberal government that views all the citizens of the United States as victims, so the only thing that really makes sense is a moderate government which is liberal on social issues and conservative on national defense. I believe such a government is not only possible, but likely in the 2008 race for the White House.

Paul Potts Opera Emotional Reaction

What can I say about a man by the name of Paul Potts who until recently was a mobile phone salesman in Great Britain. Last night after work, I logged onto MSNBC's web site and watched the NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams as I do most weekday evenings. One of the stories was about a man named Paul Potts who had just won a reality TV show contest in the U.K. over the weekend.

The whole story behind Paul Potts' rags to richest story was something I found interesting so I went to Utube and found his audition for the show and was completely blown away by the voice on this young man. In almost an embarrassing way I found myself watching this man preform the same song over a dozen times on Utube last night. I consider myself a hard bitten realist in life, but Paul Potts' voice cause such a deep emotional reaction inside my soul that it is difficult to describe exactly what I was feeling.

After going to bed last night my mind was filled with the amazing voice of Paul Potts' and the way this man changed not only his on life this past weekend, but probably the lives of millions of people that will enjoy his music for years to come. Someone said once that when it comes to Opera people either love it or hate it the first time they are exposed. In my life I have not been exposed to Opera on very many occasion so Paul Potts' performance on Utube was my first real chance to experience the whole concept of what that music genre has to offer.

I guess I am now one of those people that loves Opera and for the life of me I don't really understand why, but I do. I can't remember a time in my life when an individual music performance caused such deep emotional feelings inside of me as when I listened to Paul Potts' sing on "Britain's Got Talent" program via Utube. All day today I was hearing Potts' amazing voice in my head and walking around with a smile on my face. There is power in Opera and in the voice of Paul Potts' for those of us that do love Opera music.

Will Bush Pardon Libby Now?

That question is on the minds of millions of conservative Republican voters and much to there disappointment the answer will probably be no. The White House has made it clear that they have no intention of pardoning "Scooter" Libby until all of his appeals have been exhausted. Using that line of thinking it is possible that President Bush will no longer be the President of the United States when all of Libby's appeals run there course. While I don't consider myself a conservative anymore, the way the U.S. government went after Mr. Libby is wrong in my opinion and it would be a good thing if President Bush pardoned him now to show the world that these kinds of prosecutions are not the right way to handle problems in the United States.

After watching the leadership of President Bush now for almost seven years it has become clear that he only values loyalty from others toward him because he has proven that when loyal GOP soldiers that have worked for him get into trouble, they are left to swing in the wind if trouble comes there way. This whole Scooter Libby situation was most likely caused by President Bush and Vice-President Cheney when they encouraged Mr. Libby to dig up dirt on Valerie Plame and her husband. Being a good GOP soldier, Scooter Libby did what his bosses asked and now he finds himself convicted of a crimes while his former bosses refuse to step up and do the right thing.

From my point of view, loyalty should be a two way street but it is becoming more clear everyday that President Bush does not see loyalty in the same way. Last week President Bush's approval rating dropped below 30% for the first time in his presidency and that happened because loyal members of the GOP are not feeling that loyal toward President Bush anymore. I believe it is highly likely that President Bush will drop another 10% points in his personal approval rating before the end of the summer because of his lack of concern for Scooter Libby and also his slap in the face directed to Americans that don't like his new immigration "amnesty" bill being debated in the U.S. Senate.

President Bush is on track to destroy the Republican Party for years to come and his lasting legacy might just be that the rise in liberalism in the United States was resurrected because his eight years in the White House completely tore the GOP apart. The Republican Party is in taters right now and President George W. Bush is not trying to save it, but to the contrary he is doing all he can to tear apart the very foundation of a political party that supported him through think and thin during his term as our president.

Leaders Work To Change GOP

A long line of leaders in the Republican Party are working overtime to change the make up of the GOP and in some ways that prospect is sad, but in other ways it is well overdue. President Bush started this trend almost a year ago and since that time other important GOP politicians have followed suit. However, there is no issue that is tearing apart the traditional conservative voter from mainstream politicians more than the new immigration reform bill that is supported by President Bush.

Yesterday, Senator Trent Lott of Mississippi joined other GOP leaders in separating himself from a rank and file that has supported his political career from the beginning. When I heard that Senator Lott had criticized "talk radio" by saying something to the effect that "something needs to be done about them", I knew that Rush Limbaugh and crew would be all over him and I was right. Limbaugh jumped on Lott's comments and most likely many busy signals were heard when trying to call Senator Lott's office in Washington because true conservatives were most definitely offended by his remarks.

I do not consider myself a conservative anymore because of issues like "The Terri Schiavo Law", but in many ways I support the work done by "talk radio" in the battle over immigration reform. No politician in either the Democratic or Republican party really wants to control the border with Mexico, but almost all Americans do want our southern border better controlled from a flow of millions of illegal immigrants to our nation who drive down wages and take jobs away from American citizens. The government does not need a new law to secure the border, they only need this new immigration reform law to instantly legalize between 12 and 20 million illegal immigrants almost immediately.

With the likely prospect of Rudy Giuliani winning the GOP nomination for President of the United States and a lame duck President with a 29% approval rating getting other elected Republicans to go along with his immigration reform bill, the GOP is well on it's way to a major shift in changing what party loyalties will be protected in the future. Talk radio will not be going away any time soon and all the major talk shows could become even stronger as "true blue" conservatives lose power in the Republican Party. People with conservative views will not take this loss of power lightly and many politicians will lose on election day in 2008 because they betrayed conservative beliefs and they insulted millions of people in the GOP grass roots movement.

Democrats Look Stupid Trying To Stop War

A few months before the congressional elections last November, many Republicans like myself were totally disgusted with the leadership of President George W. Bush and his GOP allies in the Congress. After years out of power I had hoped that Democrats would take this golden opportunity of GOP failures to try and take the Democratic Party and the country, in general, back to the center politically. However, much to my distress, the democratic take over of Congress has not produced centrist policies, but only a continuing line of bull that is designed to blame all the worlds problems on President Bush.

Yesterday, I read that democrats in Congress were once again going to try to pass a law that will set a date certain for troop withdrawal from Iraq. Already democrats have passed such a law, twice, and President Bush has vetoed it. Why are the democrats wasting valuable time trying to pass a law that they know President Bush will veto? You got me there because everyday the democrats waste trying to further make President Bush look bad is another day that they become less and less relevant. It was one thing to campaign against President Bush, it is another thing to be in leadership and look silly passing laws they know have no chance of becoming law.

I have a deep hunger in my gut for real leadership in Washington whether that leadership comes from the GOP, Democrats or from an Independent. The United States has drifted into extremism in the past twenty to thirty years and neither extreme has the guts to lead this country into the future. For years, political leaders in Washington have focused on issues like abortion, gay rights or even worse they pursuit of personal power while the country languishes in a vacuum of petty battles over turf within the government.

As a child I remember being taught that extremism is bad in most circumstance and now as a middle aged man I am seeing first hand what can happen to a country when there are extremist running the show on all sides. I believe in the United States of America and I know eventually the American people will wake up and demand that our leaders work to correct problems and not just condemn political leaders on the other side for problems they are not responsible for. In the mean time, I guess we will all just have to listen to rubbish from both political extremist and thank goodness TV remote controls have a mute button so we can tune out the bull until something worth listening to comes along.

Rudy Tests GOP In Core Values Debate

The world has changed so much since 911 and no where can that change be seen clearer in the political arena than in the candidacy for the GOP nomination for president by former NYC mayor Rudy Giuliani. Before 911, a socially liberal GOP candidate would not have had a chance to win the GOP nomination for President of the United States, but right now Mayor Giuliani is the odds on favorite to get the nomination. I believe what has changed in Republican politics has to do with a realignment of priorities within the GOP base of voters.

Before 911, most of us in the United States were living a pretty comfortable existence that was free of worry about life and death issues and most of our concerns revolved around improving our standard of living and saving money for a comfortable retirement. Our safe world ended on 911 and the American people awoke to find our mainly peaceful U.S.A. home in a war zone just like many other countries around the world. At that point issues like abortion, saving for retirement and other narcissistic ideas of life were thrown out the window, in favor of more basic instincts like survival.

During the immediate days after the 911 attacks, Rudy Giuliani was a daily visitor into millions of American homes as all of us tried to understand what happened on that terrible day. I still remember the sadness I felt after the twin towers fell and the anger that took it's place in the days and weeks after the attacks. During that time, Mayor Giuliani was an ever present figure on television that showed the kind of leadership that was need during a national crisis. Both Republicans and Democrats alike praised his leadership during the toughest time in our nations history and that leadership went a long way in helping many people begin the healing process in there hearts after 911.

Many people believe that Hillary Clinton will be unbeatable in the 2008 run for the White House, but I do not count myself, yet, as one of those people. If Rudy Giuliani is the GOP nominee and Hillary Clinton is chosen by the Democrats, at this point in time I believe Mayor Giuliani will "clean her clock" on election day, if for no other reason than voters will remember Rudy's leadership skills from 911 and that will trump any type of nasty political attacks that will most likely come from the Clinton political machine.

Global Warming Headache - Fact Or Fiction?

Millions of people worldwide do not know yet if man made global warming is real or just a political slogan for liberal democrats to push for more government control. However, there is something that everyone in this debate can agree on and that is all of us should be doing more to clean up our environment in the same way we clean up after ourselves at home and at work. I became an adult in the late 1970's and during that period in our nations history air quality was terrible in most major cities.

I remember traveling to Dallas Texas from my hometown in the Texas panhandle around 1975 and the first thing I noticed, first thing in the morning, was a terrible smog that encircled the DFW Metroplex and I remember telling myself that I was glad I did not live in a city that looked like Dallas looked back then. During the late 1970's and 1980's the U.S. Congress passed several clear air laws designed to make the air cleaner in major cities and small rural towns as well. I was young during that debate, but I believe there were also people that believed that improving clear air standards would not be good for the U.S. economy and some special interest groups protested even modest clear air standards which have cleaned up the air in most U.S. major metropolitan areas today.

That said, the whole global warming debate seems to be politically motivated from my point of view and I have serious doubts as the the real power mankind really has over the Earth. Yes, all of us like to think we can make a difference in anything that comes our way, but the Earth has been around for millions of years and my guess is if man became extinct tomorrow the Earth would just start all over again just like it has done after tragedies in the past. My thinking about the environment is more narrowly viewed than political extremist that want to take away our cars and air conditioning. To me it makes more sense to control something we do have control over and that is pollution in the world today.

I have listened to Al Gore and Rush Limbaugh and others folks in between in this global warming debate and to be honest I don't know who to believe. I think millions of other Americans just like me are confused as the whether man is what is responsible for the Earth warming up or is what we are seeing right now perfectly natural in the big picture of things? I do believe all the worlds people should try and clean up better after themselves so a better and cleaner world is left to our children and grandchildren. However, the scientific evidence regarding man made global warming is far from scientific at this point in time and the last thing people should do is chase around maybe problems when there are so many real ones right in front of our face everyday.

Cancer Treatment Centers Provide Additional Options

My father died of pancreatic cancer in 2001 after an oncologist told him that there was no hope so my dad was sent home to die. The next three months were horrible as this once strong and healthy man dwindled away a little bit at a time and he eventually died in a hospice hospital in Tyler, Texas. Even in 2001 and more so today I see advertisements on television about "The Cancer Treatment Centers of America" and I wonder if this organization could have saved my father's life?

On many of there commercials, real people talk about getting a terminal cancer diagnosis from a doctor and rather than going home to die, they choose to visit the Cancer Treatment Centers of America for a second opinion about there chances of beating this terrible disease and some of these folks that were told to go home and die have beaten cancer and lived for many years in total remission.

Of course, there are probably big downsides to the way the people at Cancer Treatment Centers of America operate, including the huge costs associated with there facility. However, I can only assume that there success rate is higher than tradition hospital cancer treatment judging from the upbeat tone of there television commercials. While researching this story I have found that not all attempts to win over cancer are successful at these new centers, but without a doubt the one thing that stands out to me about this new kind of cancer treatment is the fact that everyone at The Cancer Treatment Centers of America take a positive approach to curing cancer while at the same time the regular medical community seems to take a negative approach to a cure.

Like everything else in life, a good positive attitude could make the difference between between beating cancer and dying from it. It has been proven that people with a positive attitude get more out of life to begin with, so is it such a stretch to believe that a positive attitude of victory over cancer would bring about better results than a sent home to die diagnosis? In my opinion traditional medicine has a long way to go in the treatment of serious illnesses like cancer and the people at The Cancer Treatment Centers of America might just be on the cutting edge of the next major step in cancer treatment and that step will be a treatment that embodies the body, mind and spirit of the patient.

President Bush Versus Rush Limbaugh On Immigration

This week there will be a battle brewing between President George W. Bush and national syndicated radio talk show hosts over the new immigration reform bill. President Bush, Senator John McCain and Senator Edward Kennedy have worked hard to find a way to write a new law that deals with the touchy issue of immigration reform that will be acceptable to both the extreme right and left wing in the United States. However, what happened shortly after this new law was proposed showed what tremendous power conservative talk radio still has in the U.S. today, but more importantly it shows how weak President Bush has become in the later part of his second term as our president.

I wrote last week that I support the conservative point of view on this issue because they are right when they say that no immigration reform program will work unless we first secure the border with Mexico. President Bush is flat out wrong with his ideas on this issue and a few years ago he would have been able to whip his troops in the Senate back into shape to follow his lead. However, now he is a weak president that does not have near as much political capital as he did a couple of year ago. The real people behind killing immigration reform are listeners to conservative talk radio because they would rather stop supporting there leader, President Bush, than to see a bad law hurt the United States of America.

Most true conservatives that I know are fed up with President Bush because he has made the choice to turn his back on them after years of loyal support. Many people have told me that they now believe that the loyalty President Bush is so fond of talking about is a one way street that only leads back to his doorstep. Rather than pardoning Scooter Libby from trumped up charges by an out of control special prosecutor, President Bush will return from his G-8 trip and start insulting his base supporters once again this week. This is the reason that I believe President Bush will lose even more support in upcoming polls because his loyal base if fading fast because of his lack of leadership and also his lack of loyalty toward those that helped him win in the first place.

This should be an interesting week as President Bush and conservative talk show hosts like Rush Limbaugh will square off again over the issue of immigration reform. To date, Rush Limbaugh has been reluctant to take the president on directly when it comes to immigration reform, but I have a feeling that this week might bring about a different approach from Mr. Limbaugh because last week he all but said that this bad immigration reform bill was dead. Now, President Bush is flying back to the U.S. to fight his base voters once again on an issue he will eventually lose. For a President the showed such promise in the days and weeks after 911, President Bush is well on the way to having both political extremes in America turning their backs on him before his term in office is concluded in 2009.

Paris Hilton Drug Addiction Ignored In The Media

When Paris Hilton was released early last week from her 23 day sentence in an LA county jail for medical reasons, the first thought that went through my mind was that she might be suffering withdrawal from some kind of drug and/or alcohol. It is not uncommon for young people, like Ms. Hilton, to be hooked on some type of mind altering drug and not even know it because they have never been put into a situation where that drug has not been available for several days.

Last night I read that Paris has told her legal team to not pursue an appeal of her sentence and that decision on her part might mean that she has discovered that she does have a substance abuse problem and she is getting treatment for it in the LA county jail. Of course, this is just speculation on my part because I have not heard or read anything that points to a substance abuse problem in the media. We all know that Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan have recently been in rehab to address addiction issues in their lives and it is not a big stretch to think that Ms. Hilton might be suffer from the same problems since all three of these girls have partied together for the past few months.

While Paris Hilton is an adult in the legal sense of the definition, after watching her the past few days it is clear that she is far from an adult from a maturity point of view. Unfortunately, Ms. Hilton's mother seems to be more a part of the problem than the solution. Most likely, Paris Hilton's mother babied her daughter and she made the mistake of not telling Paris "no" enough while growing up. Now the mistakes of childhood are coming back to haunt Paris Hilton and her mother.

The next 45 days will be critical in Paris Hilton's life and she very well could be at a cross road that will determine if she grows up and becomes a good voice for young women around the world or continues to slide toward self destruction like Anna Nicole did several months ago. What Paris needs right now is a good dose of "tough love" which will not come from her family, but maybe the LA county sheriff's office will play the part of adoptive parent for her and hopefully save her life.

Bush Continues Immigration Fight Against Conservative Base

As President Bush was finishing up his overseas G-8 trip, he told reporters that when he returns to Washington D.C. he is going to continue his fight and get the new immigration compromise bill back on track and passed by the U.S. Senate. Over the past few weeks millions of conservatives have been calling, writing and emailing their Senators in what was believed to be a successful effort to get the new immigration reform bill killed in the U.S. Senate.

As of Friday, most conservative radio talk show hosts like Rush Limbaugh had all but considered this, written behind closed doors, immigration bill dead. However, now President Bush is going to hurt his political base even further when he returns to the United States to once again insult the people that successfully turned out to vote him into office on two different occasions. It is way too early to know if President Bush will have enough political clout to turn around Senators in his own party that, unlike him, must stand for reelection at some future date.

It is not just conservative that have a problem with this bipartisan immigration reform bill and even if President Bush is successful at twisting arms and getting Republicans in the Senate back in line, there is a chance that a rebellion from the left wing might fill that gap and doom this bill as well. On this issue I tend to more support the conservatives because I do not see how true immigration reform will be seen without additional border control with Mexico. With previous legislation dealing with immigration pretty much ignored when it comes to dealing with controlling the borders, I find it unlikely that this new law will effectively control the border either.

For some reason President Bush is trying to destroy the Republican Party as a national force and I find myself scratching my head wondering why in the world he would do such a thing. My only guess is that he cares more about his opinions of what is right or wrong than other party members and with that in mind President Bush is continuing down the road of "my way or the highway" as he finishes up his eight year term as our president.

Paris Hilton Angers Nation Over 3 Day Jail Sentence

Regular people all across the U.S. found themselves in a state of anger yesterday when they heard that Paris Hilton was released from a 45 day sentence in jail after serving only 3 days of that court sentence. Supposed medical issues were the reason given by the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department as they tried to calm angry members of the press and millions of people around the world that saw this move as celebrity favoritism.

It is hard to blame regular people across the fruited plain that believe that the likes of Ms. Hilton and other out of control wild girls like Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan are not held to the same standards as they are. If I heard it once, I heard it one hundred times yesterday from all kinds of folks that if they were sentenced to jail time for a crime, the local sheriff would not send them home with a leg monitor just because they were suffering medical problems.

It is rare when almost everyone in America comes down on the same side of an issue, but Paris Hilton has made that almost impossibility come to pass with her early release from jail. Not since OJ Simpson was found not guilty of murdering his wife and Ron Goldman have I seen everyone with one voice say that the justice system in the United States favors celebrities more than the average person. Even Al Sharpton took a stand on this issue today and Mr. Sharpton knows first hand what it is like to spend time in jail.

I just read that the judge in Paris Hilton's case has ordered her back to court on Friday and most likely this is a result of his office being flooded with angry telephone calls and email messages about how unfair this early release decision has been received by the American people and the folks that call Los Angeles home. I find it unlikely that Paris Hilton will be back at her home after tomorrows court hearing because there is nothing judges dislike more than a sheriff's office that ignores a ruling of that judge like the LA County Sheriff's Office did in this case.

Hot Humid Summer Likely In Waco, Texas

Most people I visit with on a daily basis here in Waco, Texas are preparing for a hot humid summer because this year, unlike previous ones, we have received a bunch of rainfall during the spring. For those of you unfamiliar with Texas summers let me sum it up for you with three words; hot, really hot and horribly hot. The best part of Texas weather comes in the winter time when weather conditions are pleasant most of the time and there is rarely a need to scrap ice from your car or shovel snow from the sidewalks.

For those folks that just love hot weather, Texas is the place to be during the summer because we have hot weather in abundant supply. Yesterday, I believe our high temperature reached around 90 degrees which isn't really that bad, except the humidity made it feel like 100 degrees. We have had so much rain here in the Waco area that local officials are not even going to open one of Lake Waco's major marinas until the end of June because the level of Lake Waco is so high and it will take several more weeks before the roads to this marina will be passable by automobile.

Since local boating is restricted this month, I can only image how many people will be ready to hit the lakes over the 4th of July when lake levels will be more close to normal. People that love boating look forward to the summer months around here and when they are forced to give up one month of boating, the need to get out on the water will grow even greater with each passing week. While the 4th of July will only involve a one day holiday for most people this year, I can only image how many boats will be out on Lake Waco on that Wednesday holiday.

All I can say is that if you really love hot weather, we have it in abundant supply here in Central Texas so "come on down" and enjoy yourself. For the rest of us that prefer a more mild climate we will have to take a back seat for the next three or four months until the fall arrives and brings with it temperatures in a more reasonable range.

Fred Thompson Live On FoxNews After Debate

I was working late last night so I did not get a chance to watch the GOP debate live on CNN. However, I did watch some of the debate on the Internet and while surfing for more information I noticed that Fox News had an exclusive interview with the would be GOP candidate, Fred Thompson, after last night's debate. I watched the entire Thompson interview via the Fox News web site and I must admit the ideas and demeanor of Thompson was a breath of fresh air compared to many of the other GOP candidates running for president.

I have always enjoyed listening to Fred Thompson talk about his ideas for America and in some ways he reminds me of Ronald Reagan with his smooth talking deliver style. To be perfectly honest about GOP politics, the party is completely falling apart because of the poor leadership skills of President Bush. First President Bush destroy the support he had from moderate democrats and independents and now he has moved on to the conservative base of the GOP and he is destroying that support as well.

If the GOP is to have any chance at victory in November of 2008, it must somehow move past the presidency of George W. Bush and find a new leader that can find a way to restore the "big tent" ideas of the party before President Bush was elected to office. I don't know if historians keep up with what President of the United States was considered the most stubborn, but if they do President Bush would have to be near the top of the list because he will not budge on issues even when no one else in the world really supports those ideas.

All presidential candidates look better before they announce there candidacy than after a few months of close scrutiny and Fred Thompson will be no different. However, there is little doubt that Thompson will enter the race for the White House some time in July and between now and that date we should all get to know more about Senator Thompson because there is a good chance he could very well win the GOP nomination just because he has good ideas and is able to express those ideas well because of his years of experience in the acting field.

Great McDonald's Location In Hillsboro Texas

My daily travels often take me from Waco, Texas up I-35 through the small town of Hillsboro. In Hillsboro there is a newly remodeled McDonald's restaurant that looks to me like a building from back in the 1950's. About three months ago I started stopping by this Hillsboro McDonald's restaurant to order lunch through there drive thru window and after the first couple of visits I was hooked. What makes this McDonald's so different has nothing to do with the food quality, which is great or the design of the building. What turns me on about this particular McDonald's restaurant is how the customer is treated by the employees and that one aspect of the Hillsboro McDonald's is something that cannot be taught successfully by management at any major corporation.

The only reason that the service is so much better at this McDonald's restaurant than at any other fast food facility is that somehow the management of this one restaurant has figured out a way to hire people with a good positive mental attitude and motivate them in someway to keep that attitude while they go through there daily duties. Over the years I have become use to the same old indifferent attitude when visiting national chain restaurants and I almost forgot how important a smile filled hello was when eating at them. However, the McDonald's restaurant in Hillsboro, Texas has changed my jaded view of what is and is not possible in the restaurant business and I try to plan my day around making it possible to get my daily dose of good customer service by visiting this McDonald's location as often as possible.

I took the time the other day to visit the McDonald's corporate web site and tell them how pleased I was with there Hillsboro, Texas restaurant and after a few days they wrote me back and seemed almost in shock that a customer was taking the time to write and say something positive about one of there locations. Let's face it, most people never take the time to reward good behavior with a simple thank you when it is received. Most likely, the email inbox at McDonald's is fill with hundreds of complaints from customers that just want something for nothing from there corporation. If your travels take you through Hillsboro, Texas on I-35, I would recommend that you eat at the only McDonald's restaurant in this small Texas town. If you do you will not only enjoy the food, but find the kind of customer service not often found in any national chain restaurant.

State Controlling Choices For People That Smoke Cigarettes

The publicly financed health care system in the UK has decided to start refusing to preform surgery on people that smoke cigarettes because they heal slower than people that do not smoke cigarettes. This decision should send shock waves through the United States as the 2008 presidential election moved into high gear this summer. Why? Because most of the democratic candidates for President of the United States desire to implement a "not for profit" health care system here in the United States which will be similar to the one in the UK.

There is little doubt that the U.S. system for health care should be reformed because it is not fair to all citizens. However, transforming the current system into a government controlled operation will most likely turn a bad situation into a total disaster. This latest UK decision is an example of what will happen in the U.S. if we turn our health care system over to liberal thinking bureaucrats that want to control human behavior through legislation and litigation. Extremist on both the right and left cannot help themselves when it comes to attempts to control human behavior and this terrible decision by the government controlled health care system in the UK is just another example of that fact.

Of course it is not a smart decision to smoke cigarettes and people that do smoke should quit because of health concerns. However, both in the UK and U.S. the government is earning huge sums of money from smokers because of high taxes placed on cigarettes and to tell people that are helping pay for a publicly financed health care system that they will not be treated is not only wrong, but immoral as well. I do feel like there are major problems in the U.S. health care system, but to turn over life and death decision to a government health care board that will make crazy decisions like this new one in the UK is not a good alternative.

Over the past decade or so, smokers have become an easy target for politicians and bureaucrats to hate. Non smokers do not like having cigarette smoke blown in there face and every time that happens more people become militant in there approach to people that chose to smoke cigarettes. The real danger with government action like this one in the UK is that these decisions will not stop with smokers and before long people that are over weight and even folks hurt in traffic accidents while speeding could also be denied medical services from a government controlled health care system.

Yes, changes are needed in the U.S. health care system, but a government controlled program is not the answer for what is wrong with the health care system in the United States and it should be fought by all citizens.

Fred Thompson Run For President - 2008

For all practical purposes, former Senator Fred Thompson of Tennessee has entered the 2008 GOP race for President of the United States. Millions of social conservatives are hungry for a "true blue" conservative to enter the 2008 race and for the most part Fred Thompson fits that bill. As Rudy Giuliani and John McCain have been fighting it out around the country in an effort to earn the GOP nomination for President, the social conservative base of the Republican Party has been disappointed that neither man is a real conservative like there hero Ronald Reagan was several decades ago.

From my point of view the GOP is in real trouble in 2008 and beyond because of the leadership decisions of President Bush and the fact that current Members of the Republican Party have too closely tied themselves to some of the president's positions on immigration reform and the War in Iraq. Most likely, the Republican Party will be toast in the 2008 presidential race and the party as a whole will lose even more seats in the Senate and in the House of Representatives in the years to come.

After President Bush decided to shun and make fun of the Republican base when they did not support his vision of immigration reform, any Republican candidate for President of the United States in 2008 was pretty much doomed to failure. Most people personally like President Bush and one of the reasons folks like him is because he does not "flip flop" on issues. However, there is a fine line between not flip flopping on issues and being stubborn to a fault. I believe President Bush has crossed that line and to most people in the GOP, he is now considered a person that does not care what supporters think and will go it alone, no matter what the political consequences for future Republicans down the road.

This stubborn streak will be written about in the history books and will cause a huge stain to be placed on the Bush presidency. When President Bush was first elected president back in 2000, the GOP was still a huge force in United States politics and it's big tent policies were cause the party to continue to grow in future years. However, after the terrible events of September 11th and the u-turn made by President Bush toward Iraq; the GOP started looking less and less like a mainstream party and more like an extremist organization. Even staunch GOP conservatives do not view themselves as extremist, but people that believe in right and wrong. To most people in the GOP conservative wing, any type of amnesty for illegal immigration is wrong.

Last week, President Bush went out of his way to insult members of his base for there strongly held views on tough border control with Mexico and tougher restrictions on illegal residents because they broke U.S. law when they entered this country to work. President Bush has headed down the road to total isolation in the United States and now with the loss of most of his hard-core base supporters, it would not surprise me if the president's personal approval numbers drop below 20% by the end of the summer. If this happens not only will President Bush be a total lame duck, but he will also make it next to impossible for another GOP president to succeed him.

Bush Lasting Legacy - Immigration Reform Or Iraq War?

Whether they outwardly admit it or not most President's of the United States care a great deal about there legacy. While many pundits believe that President Bush will be remembered for his actions in the War in Iraq, I now believe something totally unexpected will follow President George W. Bush into the history books. Every single day I become more convinced that President Bush is trying to destroy the Republican Party and remake it in his own image. The president's in your face attitude against the men and women that gave him millions of dollars in campaign contribution and also worked hard to register people to vote and show up on election day are now being worse than shunned, but they are also being told they are stupid when it comes to this new immigration bill.

In classic party fashion, most Republicans in Congress are following President Bush into the abyss of total party meltdown which will all but certainly cause the GOP to lose the White House in 2008 and also allow for more democratic victories in Congress, as well. In years to come people will realize the damage that President Bush has caused to the GOP and there will emerge two camps of thinking on this issue. The first camp will believe that religious conservatives had too much control over the GOP and they will welcome this new change with open arms. The other camp will forever blame George W. Bush for destroying everything that President Ronald Reagan built and will view the name of George W. Bush with disdain for decades because of his abandonment of traditional conservative values in favor of a more mainstream approach to politics.

In the same way Democrats have become frustrated with the never compromise attitude of President Bush over the War in Iraq, now GOP conservatives are seeing that same side of the president's personality, except this time it is directed toward them. I have no doubt that millions of conservative voters have written letters, sent email's and called the White House in opposition to this new immigration reform legislation. However, the White House has turned a deaf ear toward there long time supporters and used the same technique on conservatives that they have used on liberals for years. Whether this destruction of the GOP turns out to be a good or bad thing down the road is yet to be discovered. However, one thing is for certain and that is that President Bush has completely turned his back on the political base that help put him into office and the next thing to watch is whether that base will blame only President Bush or the GOP in general for that betrayal.
