Even Garth Brooks Likes Keith Urban

To me, one of the biggest names in country music the past few decades has been Garth Brooks who recently said that "Keith Urban is a beautiful guy". Of course in a Hollywood taught world such a statement might call into question the true meaning behind Garth Brooks statement. However, in reality Brooks just gave Keith Urban a huge pat on the back and a wake up call that he will be back fighting against Keith Urban soon on the country music charts.

The past few weeks Keith Urban has been praising his wife Nicole Kidman as he tours the world. Rightfully so, Keith Urban is crediting his wife Nicole for helping him through many problems in his life including substance abuse. Isn't this what married couples are suppose to do; help each other when times are bad? From my upbring, yes that is exactly what a good marriage is suppose to be. However, in this throw it away world we live in today some people throw away their marriage if it breaks just as quickly as they would throw away a radio that quit working.

The more I see and read about the marriage of Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman the more I believe it might stand the test of time. Staying together takes more work than running to a divorce lawyer at the first sign of trouble. To me, the first test in a happy and long lasting marriage has been passed by both Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman and that step is to put your partners needs ahead of your own. While this act of selflessness sounds easy, it is not easy when most of us only think about how we can best satisfy our own needs before our partner.

LA Court Slaps Lindsay Lohan's Wrist

Don't you just love Hollywood justice? News was released today that Lindsay Lohan will spend only one (1) day in jail for her conviction on DUI charges. Lohan will also spend 36 months on probation and be forced to do community service. The LA DA said that Lindsay Lohan's sentence was right in line with what anyone else would get if charged with the same crime. Are there any law and order types left in Southern California? Do people actually go to jail when they do something as dangerous as driving a motor vehicle drunk and chasing someone down with their car?

I understand that California is the most liberal state in the union, but surely there are good liberals out there that see this situation is not good for their state or Lohan. Lindsay Lohan is a troubled girl that needs some tough love. Lohan will not get that tough love from her screwed up family, so the only people left to teach her right from wrong is the California court system. Now, in a way the court system in California is doing exactly the same thing Lindsay Lohan's parents have done her entire life and that is slap her on the wrist and prove to her once again there are no serious consequence for bad/criminal behavior.

Please don't get me wrong, I don't want to see Lindsay Lohan rot in a California jail for years. However, the punishment she received for a very serious crime is a total joke and would not be handled in the same way in most parts of the United States. Especially in Hollywood, young actresses like Lindsay Lohan need the court system to act as the good parents they don't have, but unfortunately Lindsay Lohan not only has a couple of terrible parents to learn from; but also a California criminal justice system that goes out of it's way not to punish the acts of criminals.

General David Petraeus Report Next Month

I guess something is flying right over my head with all the talk of troop withdrawal and reductions today because from everything I have read and seen, the General Petraeus troop surge is not only working in Iraq, but it is working very well. Today, I hear a news headline on the radio that says Senator John Warner is now encouraging President Bush to draw down U.S. troops in Iraq before Christmas.

Excuse me, but isn't the reason things are going well in Iraq right now because of the increased presents of U.S. troops? Why in the world would a sitting U.S. Senator want to draw down troops to a level that would guarantee failure in Iraq? The biggest mistake President Bush made was not sending enough troops to Iraq in the first place and when he corrected that mistake now life on the ground in Iraq is better not only for the people that live there, but also for our soldiers.

There is something very crazy about the debate going on right now in Washington D.C. and as a well read man I don't understand why Republicans are ready to join the Democrats in a plan that will guarantee defeat in Iraq. Maybe this is just election year politics, but there is more at stake here than the reelection possibilities for the Senator from Virginia. President Bush has learned from his previous mistake of not sending enough troops to fight in Iraq and now just when his new policy is starting to work, some Members of Congress are dead set on seeing the U.S. fail in Iraq for what looks like purely political reasons.

Carrie Underwood - Lemons Limes Chewing Gum

In a world full of spoiled rotten stars, country music singer Carrie Underwood seems to take a different path almost every time. In a story on the WSYR Channel 9 website, they outline some of the demands major entertainers expect when they preform at the local fair.

From crazy items to regular everyday stuff are all part of what singers expect when they preform at the fair. The writer of this WSYR story thought some of the items that Carrie Underwood requested were strange, but to me it was a breath of fresh air to see a beautiful young woman demand things like chewing gum and fresh fruits like lemons and limes.

I must admit that I am a big fan of lemons and limes as well; maybe that is why I enjoy listening to Carrie Underwood sing! As for the chewing gum, well I stopped chewing that stuff a long time ago but I did enjoy my fair share of the stuff during my young years here on the Earth. Regular readers here know that I think Carrie Underwood is very special and nothing in this story has changed my view about this young woman who is giving young girls everywhere a positive role model to look up to in a very messed up world.

Iraq Troop Surge Working - al-Maliki Not

Just yesterday, President Bush went out of his way to praise Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki saying that he was a good man with a very tough job. Now this morning I wake up to news all over the Internet suggesting that U.S. intelligence agencies have a different view of al-Maliki and these agencies do not believe that the Prime Minister has what it takes to reform Iraq.

To me, these new reports from not identified people at U.S. intelligence agencies looks more like a democratic effort to take success away from the Bush administration's Iraq troop surge policy in order to try and keep the American people totally upset by American involvement in Iraq. Conservatives like Rush Limbaugh have been saying for months that the democratic party is invested in defeat and on this point he might just be correct.

If Americans just sit down and think this Iraq War situation out to a conclusion rather than taking at face value what is reported to them by the New York Times or told to them by President Bush, most people would probably side with President Bush. There is no good outcome in a speedy withdrawal from Iraq because our withdrawal would cause a huge bloodbath there the same as when America lost it's will and removed troops from Vietnam.

There are some people in the United States that hate President Bush so much that they would cause even a bigger human tragedy in Iraq just to see him hurt further in public opinion. The time for debating the wisdom of going into Iraq has come and gone and hopefully most Americans will start to demand victory from our leaders instead of defeat.
