I must admit that I was not sad when I heard the news that the Washington Redskins lost yesterdays wild card playoff game to the Seattle Seahawks. As a lifetime Dallas Cowboys fan, it is never bad news to me when the Redskins lose a football game. It was even more sweet yesterday since the Washington Redskins had beaten the Dallas Cowboys last weekend in the final game of the 2007 regular season. That said, next weekend the Dallas Cowboys may very well go the same way as the Washington Redskins if they do not get their mind back on football and start playing the way they did back during the first part of the season.
The Dallas Cowboys and starting quarterback Tony Romo have been in one of the worst slumps I have seen in recent years. After a fantastic start, this season, they have completely fallen apart and during December they played at a poor level during each game. When this Cowboys slump started, most fans did not realized it was a long lasting problem for several weeks. In the beginning, many of us blamed the problem on, Tony Romo's alleged girlfriend, Jessica Simpson which was funny for about one week. However, after all the laughter at Jessica Simpson's faded away the Dallas Cowboys were still in a late year slump and nothing seems to have happened to turn it around so far.
There is always a chance that the Dallas Cowboys will change in next weeks playoff game, but I must admit I am not optimist at this time. The big M, momentum, has a powerful effect in the NFL and right now the Dallas Cowboys have little of that going into next weekends playoff game at home. The terrible thing about a football team going through a slump is that everyone both on and off the field know it is happening, but everyone is powerless to do anything about it until it naturally runs it's course. The 2007/2008 Dallas Cowboys slump has hopefully run it's course and 'Americas Team' will come out of their long rest next Sunday with a new attitude and good team play from the opening kickoff. If this slump is not over by next weekend, then it is going to be a painful last game of the season for millions of Cowboys fans to watch.
