Cleveland Fight Night, Obama/Clinton Square Off

Tonight, MSNBC will host a debate between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama which will be the last debate before the March 4th primaries in Texas and Ohio. NBC News anchor Brian Williams and Meet the Press moderator Tim Russert will be asking the questions. Most experts expect Hillary Clinton to take the gloves off tonight and go after Barack Obama on many different fronts because her lead in the national polls has all but vanished in recent days. I tend to agree with the experts because right now Hillary Clinton has nothing to lose by going after Obama. Will this tactic work for Hillary Clinton? Probably not because most Americans that support Obama seem unmovable in their support for his candidacy.

Barack Obama has made few mistakes so far in his bid to beat Hillary Clinton for the democratic nomination. That said, the road ahead of Obama in November is going to be much tougher than the democratic nomination because no party will fight harder to win than the GOP. At the end of the day, if Barack Obama continues to keep himself above all of the negative aspects of presidential campaigning and he has no severe skeleton's in his closet – he most likely will be the next President of the United States. 2008 must be a big disappointment for Hillary Clinton because most certainly a few months ago she could not even envision losing her own party's nomination for President.

In Cleveland tonight, MSNBC has a chance to finally win in the cable news ratings race. Usually, MSNBC finished a distant third to Fox News and CNN in prime-time programming. The 2008 president election has been so interesting to watch, that the ratings for presidential debates have been through the roof. Even MSNBC should do well tonight when Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton debate, but my guess is that soon after the debate most Americans will move back over to Fox News and CNN for post debate analysis.

The way the Texas democratic primary is set up, I see no chance that Hillary Clinton could win here. For months, Hillary has had a big lead in Ohio. However, that lead is now gone and with each passing day Barack Obama momentum is growing in Ohio, just like it did in every other state he has campaigned in. Tonight's democratic debate on MSNBC should be interesting to watch because lately I have not seen Hillary Clinton go after Obama in a tough way in debates. If she does so tonight, it will be interesting to see in the days ahead if that more aggressive tone ends up helping or hurting her candidacy.
