The past few days, the ever present Hollywood paparazzi that follows every move that Britney Spears makes is speculating that she might be pregnant. While I hope that it is not true that Britney Spears is pregnant, nothing seems impossible in this troubled young girls life. Ms. Spears already has lost custody of her other children because of her erratic behavior, so more than likely if Britney Spears is pregnant her new child could be taken away from her at birth. What concerns me more than the living conditions any new Britney Spears baby might face after birth, is the high probability that Britney Spears continued abuse of drugs and alcohol could endanger her child before it is even born. I have written before that I think Britney Spears is headed down a slow road toward suicide because she suffers from extreme emotional problems.
Anna Nicole Smith and what happened to her seems to be playing itself out again in the life of Britney Spears. The world of Hollywood is hard enough to navigate when a person is in full control of their faculties, but when a person is suffering with mental health issues - Hollywood only leads to more life crisis's and it enables deep depression to keep growing in those that suffer from it. I have been having a difficult time understanding how the California court system works when it comes to mentally committing someone against their will. A few weeks ago I was under the impression that Britney Spears parents were given control of her life by a California court. At that time, Ms. Spears was transported to a mental facility in Los Angeles to undergo prolonged therapy. However, what happened next surprised me and it left me scratching my head about what kind of power the California court system really has in cases like this one.
Rather than spending several weeks in the hospital under the care and direction of a doctor, within only a couple of days Britney Spears was released from the hospital at which point she continued her self destructive ways. Not being a lawyer, I am many times confused about the law and how it is administrated in different states around the country. Apparently, California courts have little power to keep someone in the hospital if at least one doctor believes that a patient does not pose a risk either to them self or someone else. Britney Spears parents desperately want to return her to their home in Louisiana where that states court system is less liberal than in California, but that isn't going to happen unless Britney Spears decides to return there of her own accord and at present, Louisiana is the last place Britney Spears wants to be.
Sooner or later we will all wake up to the news one morning that Britney Spears has passed away and when that happens it will be hard for me not to blame California law for letting her down when she really needed some help. While California is a bastion of liberalism in the United States, true liberalism creates a death sentence in some people that are truly mentally ill in order to protect the innocent. No one wants to go back to the days when Americans were locked up just because they were different than most other people. However, there must be some way to draw a contrast between the behavior of people that want to live a counter culture lifestyle from those that are suffering from a real mental crisis and in danger of killing themselves when good treatments are available to help.
