Yesterday was a wild and crazy day when it comes to weather in the State of Texas as rain, thunderstorms and dense fog blanketed most of the state. Even DFW Airport, one of the nation's busiest was close for several hours which caused thousands of people to either be stranded in Dallas/Ft. Worth or forced to wait out the Texas weather in some other airport where their flight was diverted to.
Here in Waco, yesterday it rained all day long with very few breaks in between downpours. By the end of the day, some areas received up to five inches of rain and early yesterday evening when I ventured out to get something to eat – I saw two different automobile accidents within a half a mile of each other on the same street.
Late last night, the rained stopped here in Central Texas and loud high winds took it's place. Those winds continued through the night as our temperatures dropped. While most people consider that spring has already arrived, where I live it does not look like spring outside yet – but I won't have long to wait. As a lifelong resident of the State of Texas I know that this mornings cold winds will be replaced soon enough by the long hot days of summer.
Yesterday reminded me of last spring when the Central Texas area received several feet of rainfall within a very short period of time. Going into last spring, the Waco Texas area was in a drought condition and even water rationing was considered as a real possibility before the summer was over. However, 'mother nature' put an end to last years drought within two weeks as our local Lake Waco went from 20 feet low to overflowing the spillway within a couple of weeks.
While creations of man always interest me, nothing is more exciting and scary to watch than the awesome power of 'mother nature'. Nothing man has invented or likely ever will can control the tremendous power of nature when it hits with devastating force. Even something as simple as water can go from a docile state to a force so powerful it can move homes and cars like they are small pieces of wood. To live in Texas is to respect the whims of 'mother nature' and to try and stay out of her way when she really gets riled up.
