Tomorrow, Tuesday night - if Hillary Clinton does not defeat Barack Obama badly in Pennsylvania then she should gracefully withdraw from the 2008 race for the White House and throw and undying support behind democratic Senator Barack Obama from Illinois. In fact, I believe Hillary Clinton should have thrown in the towel a month ago - but she did not and in a way I understand why she did not quit back then. For more than two years, Hillary Clinton has thought of little else except her desire to become President of the United States. This same time last year, no one really thought anyone had a chance to defeat Hillary Clinton for the democratic nomination. However, soon after Democrats started showing up at the polls to vote in primaries - it became clear that 2008 was not Hillary Clinton's year to win.
Just image how you would feel if you had put years of hard work into picking the right time to run for President of the United States and at the last minute a junior Senator from Illinois was cleaning your clock and taking your own party's nomination away from you? In reality, I believe Hillary Clinton has been running for President of the United States since her first date with her husband former President Bill Clinton. While the millions of dollars that the Clinton's have earned since Bill Clinton left the White House has been nice and provided financial security - in reality the only real thing that really turns on either Bill or Hillary Clinton is power and there is no greater power in the world than serving as the President of the United States. That said, Hillary Clinton nor her husband Bill are going to give up on this presidential dream until there is no chance for her to win.
The good news is that a previously little known Senator from Illinois by the name of Barack Obama has put the Bill and Hillary Clinton presidential express back in the garage. While there are many issues that I disagree with Barack Obama on, he is heads and tails a better democratic candidate for President than Hillary Clinton. For over a year, the powers that be in the GOP have known this fact as well and that is why they have decided to support Hillary, so the don't have to run against Obama in November. However, after tomorrow night (Tuesday) in Pennsylvania the race for the democratic nomination for President could be over. For months, Hillary Clinton has been expected to win the Pennsylvania Primary and if she does not she is in a whole world of hurt with voters in the democratic party.
While it is a logical assumption that Hillary Clinton will drop out of the 2008 democratic race if she does not win in Pennsylvania, that actual announcement will be hard for her to make. Hopefully, friends of Hillary Clinton have already been priming her for a potential defeat in Pennsylvania and telling her what the right thing to do will be if she is not successful there. If Hillary Clinton continues her campaign after a Pennsylvania defeat, then she and yes her husband too will become damaged goods in a political party that stood behind Bill Clinton through thick and thin when it came to his mistakes in moral judgment. It is clear to most objective observers that both Bill and Hillary Clinton are very narcissistic and getting either one of them to admit they have lost a campaign is something that most people would not even attempt. That said, there is a time for the 'fat lady to sing' and if Hillary loses in Pennsylvania tomorrow night that lady's voice should ring loud and clear even in her own ears.
