The Democrat candidates for President had a debate on Saturday night and according to one focus group, Hillary Clinton did not do well. From the video I watched on YouTube after the debate, most voters said that Hillary Clinton came across as angry and mean as the debate progressed into the issue of change. Both Barack Obama and John Edwards are trying to link Hillary Clinton to her husband former President Bill Clinton which makes her look like more of an insider than a messenger of change in the presidential race of 2008. Her coming across as angry is a problem that Hillary Clinton seems to keep facing day after day and it is something she must deal with effectively if she is to win her party's nomination for President.
Right now, Barack Obama is on fire politically and whether or not Hillary Clinton will be able to put out that fire is still an open question. Exit polling from Iowa said that voters there were more interested in a candidate that represented change than any other issue. That change message was not only heard by Democrats like Hillary Clinton, but also candidates in the Republican Party, as well. I believe most Americans are so tired of the Bush and Clinton families running the show in Washington D.C., that they would vote for almost anyone that did not have the last name of Clinton or Bush. This attitude of change is terrible news for Hillary Clinton because she is hoping to repeat her husbands come from behind victory in the democratic party more than a decade ago.
Just like a house guest that over stays their welcome, both the Bush and Clinton families have been in power in Washington D.C. for far too long. The American people are looking for new ideas and leadership to take the country in a different direction for the next four years. This attitude of change not only hurts Hillary Clinton, but Republican candidates like John McCain, as well. Exit polling showed both Republican and Democrat voters equally dissatisfied with the status quo in Washington. That dissatisfaction with current leaders is also a bad sign for popular candidates like Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney too. The big winners in 2008 could very well be people that are perceived as outsiders. Both Mike Huckabee and Barack Obama are viewed that way by potential voters which could create an entirely different race for the White House than anyone thought was possible just a few weeks ago.
