Obama Defeats Hillary Then McCain In November

I have said it before and I will say it again, no one person in my lifetime has become so popular in such a short period of time than Senator Barack Obama. From pretty much unknown status one year ago, to now the favorite to win the White House in 2008. New polls out today show Obama with a big lead nationwide against his rival Senator Hillary Clinton and in a head to head match-up with Republican front runner, John McCain, Barack Obama wins handedly. Often times I have heard that old saying about being at the right place at the right time and nowhere does that saying apply more than to Barack Obama's campaign for President of the United States.

There are so many factors that are working in favor of Barack Obama it is hard to list them all. However, a few of the biggest issues that are propelling Obama ever higher in the polls include the high disapproval of President Bush and the Bush/Clinton fatigue factor this nation is suffering from. That said, most Americans are fearful that the US is heading in the wrong direction and voters are demanding change in 2008. Early on it became clear that Senator Barack Obama was going to be the voters choice for that change and to date Senator Obama has not let his overnight success go to his head.

In a nation where anything is possible, Senator Obama is about to crash through some of the biggest obstacles imaginable when he becomes the next President of the United States. At the top of that list is the fact that Barack Obama is an African-American in a nation that still suffers with issues of racism. Within a few short months, Senator Obama has not only made it seem possible that an African-American could win the White House – but the word possible has been replaced with probable after today's most recent polls.

Without anyone really noticing, history is happening right before our eyes in the candidacy of Barack Obama. Rather than running the same old Republican v. Democrat or conservative v. liberal campaign, Barack Obama is looking toward the future and drawing support from Republicans, Independents and most Democrats in his race for the White House. I was thinking last night about how long it has been since we had a President with young kids living in the White House. Barack and Michelle Obama have two beautiful daughters and I believe parents with young children are more in touch with what is really happening in the country than older folks like me that have already raised our kids.

Lindsay Lohan Removes Clothes After Drug Rehab

In a tribute to the late Marilyn Monroe, Lindsay Lohan recreated some famous pictures of Monroe including some that show her in the nude. Of course, Lindsay Lohan is an adult and is free to choose what she does in her life – but I believe this new Marilyn Monroe photo layout is just another Hollywood publicity stunt. The sad truth is that in Hollywood the only bad publicity is no publicity at all. Over the past several months as Lindsay Lohan has been drying out in a rehab facility in Utah, her name has not been printed in most of the news media and few members of the ever present paparazzi have been following her around.

More than likely a new 'clean and sober' Lindsay Lohan took part in this Marilyn Monroe photo shoot because she needs to get her name back out in the public. That said, most famous people that try to take shortcuts in order to quickly get attention from the media and public, fail over the long term. Whether it is the shock value of these Lindsay Lohan nude photos or other famous actresses that bare all in Playboy, the long term value of such activity does not have a good track record. In Lohan's case, I believe this Marilyn Monroe photo shoot was a mistake because all through her troubles with drug abuse, there were decent moral people that were pulling for her to get better.

Now those same people are likely to permanently turn their backs on Lohan as her first employment choice after rehab was to take her clothes off. Don't get me wrong, there will be much attention heading the way of Lindsay Lohan over the next few weeks because of this Marilyn Monroe photo shoot, but the people that are interested in these pictures are not the type of fans that will help Lohan rebuild her career nationwide. Instead, they will follow Lindsay Lohan for awhile praising her work and then leave her side the minute some other famous person does something that is even more shocking.

There is news out this morning that Lindsay Lohan's mother is happy with her daughters decision and that statement concerns me even more than Lindsay Lohan's choice. As a man from what Hollywood types call 'fly over country', I have a difficult time understanding the attitudes of residents of Hollywood. I especially find it difficult to believe that any parent would praise a child that wanted to exploit their body in order to win fame or money. My guess is that it was the dysfunctional nature of Lindsay Lohan's family that cause her to fall into a world of alcohol and drug abuse in the first place and no amount of rehab will change that messed up family unit.
