Who Will Convince Hillary Clinton To Quit Race?

There has been increasing speculation today about the possible withdrawal of Hillary Clinton from the 2008 democratic primary process if she does not win in Texas and Ohio on Tuesday. That begs the question, who will be the unlucky person given the job of telling Hillary Clinton that she should quit the race and throw her support behind Barack Obama? If I had to guess, that bit of bad news would most likely be delivered by her husband Bill Clinton and her daughter. Most people do not live in a campaign bubble like Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama live in. Even when it becomes clear to almost everyone that a particular candidate has no chance to win, the candidate involved has been through so many contests and spoken to so many crowds that they lose touch, temporarily, with reality.

Just about every neutral observer now says that if Hillary Clinton does not beat Barack Obama badly in both Texas and Ohio on Tuesday, her campaign is finished. Of course, Hillary Clinton could go the Mike Huckabee route, hoping against hope that Barack Obama will somehow mess things up - but the chances of that happening are very low, indeed. From my point of view, Barack Obama has made few mistakes in his campaign for the democratic nomination and I don't see him starting to self destruct now. The idea of giving up on a lifelong dream to be the first female President of the United States is something that will be hard for Hillary Clinton to do. However, I believe there is another route for Hillary Clinton to become the first female President and that idea gets started when and if Barack Obama asked her to serve as his Vice-President.

At the end of an eight year term of a President Barack Obama administration, Hillary Clinton will be 68 years old. That is many years younger than John McCain's current age. If Hillary Clinton really wants to be the first female President of the United States, that goal could still be reached at the end of a Barack Obama administration as a sitting Vice-President with real leadership skills and responsibilities. However, if Hillary Clinton decides to refuse the most certain Barack Obama VP opportunity - then I believe Hillary Clinton's chances of eventually becoming the President of the United States will diminish. With the exception of VP Dick Cheney who has never desired the job of President of the United States, most Vice-Presidents in modern history are successful at gaining their party's nomination after the current President's term expires.

In reality, the best chance Hillary Clinton has at eventually becoming the President of the United States is as Barack Obama's Vice-President. Of course, if a Barack Obama administration fails miserably - Hillary could be hurt. However, I do not believe that barack Obama is going to fail if elected President of the United States. Instead, I believe he will lead the democratic party back to the political center and be very popular when he leaves office, just like Ronald Reagan was. In many ways, with the exception of the issues involved - Barack Obama is very similar to Ronald Reagan. Both men have exceptional communication skills and both inspire people toward change in America. While in Hillary Clinton's heart she never will see herself as the Vice-President of the United States, in her mind she will eventually see that the job of VP could very well help her eventually achieve her goal of being the first female President of the United States.

Britney Spears Pregnant Rumors Surround Hollywood

The past few days, the ever present Hollywood paparazzi that follows every move that Britney Spears makes is speculating that she might be pregnant. While I hope that it is not true that Britney Spears is pregnant, nothing seems impossible in this troubled young girls life. Ms. Spears already has lost custody of her other children because of her erratic behavior, so more than likely if Britney Spears is pregnant her new child could be taken away from her at birth. What concerns me more than the living conditions any new Britney Spears baby might face after birth, is the high probability that Britney Spears continued abuse of drugs and alcohol could endanger her child before it is even born. I have written before that I think Britney Spears is headed down a slow road toward suicide because she suffers from extreme emotional problems.

Anna Nicole Smith and what happened to her seems to be playing itself out again in the life of Britney Spears. The world of Hollywood is hard enough to navigate when a person is in full control of their faculties, but when a person is suffering with mental health issues - Hollywood only leads to more life crisis's and it enables deep depression to keep growing in those that suffer from it. I have been having a difficult time understanding how the California court system works when it comes to mentally committing someone against their will. A few weeks ago I was under the impression that Britney Spears parents were given control of her life by a California court. At that time, Ms. Spears was transported to a mental facility in Los Angeles to undergo prolonged therapy. However, what happened next surprised me and it left me scratching my head about what kind of power the California court system really has in cases like this one.

Rather than spending several weeks in the hospital under the care and direction of a doctor, within only a couple of days Britney Spears was released from the hospital at which point she continued her self destructive ways. Not being a lawyer, I am many times confused about the law and how it is administrated in different states around the country. Apparently, California courts have little power to keep someone in the hospital if at least one doctor believes that a patient does not pose a risk either to them self or someone else. Britney Spears parents desperately want to return her to their home in Louisiana where that states court system is less liberal than in California, but that isn't going to happen unless Britney Spears decides to return there of her own accord and at present, Louisiana is the last place Britney Spears wants to be.

Sooner or later we will all wake up to the news one morning that Britney Spears has passed away and when that happens it will be hard for me not to blame California law for letting her down when she really needed some help. While California is a bastion of liberalism in the United States, true liberalism creates a death sentence in some people that are truly mentally ill in order to protect the innocent. No one wants to go back to the days when Americans were locked up just because they were different than most other people. However, there must be some way to draw a contrast between the behavior of people that want to live a counter culture lifestyle from those that are suffering from a real mental crisis and in danger of killing themselves when good treatments are available to help.

Democrats Do The 'Texas Two Step' Tuesday

As a lifelong citizen of Texas, I am embarrassed by the method state Democrats use to select the delegates from our state. In what is being referred to as the 'Texas Two Step', on Tuesday during the day - Texas will hold a primary where Democrats can vote for either Barck Obama or Hillary Clinton, then that night the same democratic voters are asked once again to show up at state caucuses and vote again. I wish I knew who exactly came up with this idea and how on Earth that person could have thought this two step system was fair at best or legal at worst? For all I know, my state democratic party has been doing things this way for a long time - but no one noticed because the nominee was always selected before Texans even went to the polls to vote.

The Texas primary system is heavily weighted in favor of Barack Obama. Not only does Obama do well in a caucus setting, but since the democratic party in Texas rewards past voter turnouts in presidential primaries, African-American votes will count for more delegates than votes from either whites or Mexican-Americans. The reason this is happening is because in previous election cycles, predominately African-American voting districts have turned out in higher numbers to vote than have whites and Mexican-Americans. Basically, the whole democratic primary system here in Texas is broken and it is in severe need of repair. However, it is too late to fix the Texas system before voters start casting their ballots and visiting caucus locations in less than 48 hours.

The close nature of the 2008 presidential race has brought close public scrutiny to how the various states select delegates to their respective conventions. From my point of view, the GOP has a much better system for selecting a presidential nominee than do the Democrats. The first mistake that the democratic party makes is by not having a winner take all system in each of their state primaries. Instead of dividing delegates between either congressional districts or some other formula, Democrats should follow the Republicans and allow which ever candidate wins a state the right to take all of that states delegates. While the Republicans have already selected John McCain to be their candidate in November, the democratic party is still fighting to see whether Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama will be their nominee.

The second thing that must be changed in the democratic primary system is the removal or reduction in the number of 'Superdelegates' that represent the party at the national convention. Having almost 1/3 of all delegates casting votes without being forced to abide by the will of the people is a system that could damage Democrats badly if the person that received the most votes did not win the nomination. 2008 is showing all Americans the flaws that are present in the various state primaries and this years close election on the democratic side should be a wake up call to party leaders to fix their systems before something bad happens down the road.

Democrats In Florida Might Vote Again

In a move that raised a few eyebrows among democratic politicians, Republican Florida Governor Charlie Crist announced today that the State of Florida would consider holding another democratic primary election so Florida's democratic delegates could be seated at this summers convention. The money for this reelection process would be paid for by Florida taxpayers. Late last year, Democrats in Florida ran afoul of the DNC because they held their states primary earlier than the rules allowed. Florida's punishment was to have their state delegates not seated at the democratic convention this summer.

Back when this story was big news, no one ever imaged that the democratic nomination for President would have been this close between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama at this late stage of the contest. However, with both Obama and Clinton running neck and neck in the latest delegate count, Florida's democratic delegates are more important now than they would have been earlier in the year. I personally was shocked to discover that a Republican governor was making this gesture to members of another party. Today, DNC chairman Howard Dean seemed to warm up quickly to Governor Crist idea which means it is likely that the State of Florida will hold it's democratic primary again so that Florida's voice will be heard in this years democratic national convention.

Now that Florida has taken the lead in potentially holding another democratic primary, the next question I have is will Michigan be next? If I'm not mistaken, Michigan's governor is a Democrat which should make the decision to hold another primary there easier than in Florida. Right now, delegates from Michigan and Florida could hold the key as to whether the democratic nomination will go to Barack Obama or to Hillary Clinton. The last thing leaders in the democratic party want to see is a brokered convention or a convention where 'Superdelegates' decide which person will win the nomination. There is equal love for both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama among members of the democratic party, so the last thing that Democrats want going into this falls election against Senator John McCain is to have a divided party base.

This bipartisan effort by Governor Charlie Crist is hopefully a sign of better corporation in the future between members of the democratic and Republican Party's. For years there has been much mistrust between liberals and conservatives in Washington and it would be nice to see at least some corporation in the future. The best thing about the close race this year between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama is that millions of Americans that never took part in the process of helping select their party's candidate for President are showing up and voting this year. For generations, people in power have tried to find a way to get the American people back to the voting booth on election day. While all of their previous efforts have fail, one man by the name of Barack Obama has changed the 2008 election and brought new voices into the political process that were silent for far too long.
