Should The Federal Government Bailout All Homeowners With ARM Mortgages?

A few years ago one of the fastest growing mortgage instruments were Adjustable Rate Mortgages (ARM) because interest rates were low and they allowed homeowners to buy more home than they could actually afford. Today, millions of people are facing foreclosure because their ARM interest rate has risen substantially and they can no longer afford their mortgage payments.

In recent months, the US federal government made the decision to bailout Wall Street and now talks are underway in the US Congress to offer federal bailout money to financially troubled individual homeowners, as well. While I am usually against government welfare, it is only right that if the federal government decides to bailout the wealthy on Wall Street that they give the same consideration to ARM holders on main street, as well.

The US national debit is so high, I don't know when or if it will ever be paid off. The last number I heard was that it would cost well over $100,000 from every man, woman and child in the United States to pay off the US national debit. Considering the average America earns around $45,000 per year in total income, that $100,000 per person figure takes on new meaning. Since the federal government decided to bailout Wall Street, they should also consider giving a helping hand to regular Americans - many of whom - were tricked into taking out ARM's and not told that their interest rate and payment would increase at a future date.

Ignore All Polls That Use The Term 'Likely Voters' Because 2008 Is Different

There are so many games played when it comes to how polls are used to try and persuade voters to support one candidate over the other. Yesterday, Fox News released their latest poll that showed a big change in voter attitudes over their previous poll one week ago. The two key words in the Fox News poll that gave me pause were, 'likely voters' instead of registered voters.

In most presidential election years, only a small percentage of the people eligible to vote actually show up on election day to cast their ballots. However, in 2008 it is clear that many more voters are going to show up at the polls because in states that allow early voting, there are already lines of people waiting to vote almost a week before the election. Exit polling in early voting states show Barack Obama with a double digit lead.

While it is understandable that the Fox News Channel would want to display their poll results in a way that is favorable to the GOP, in the final analysis it is not going to matter that much what the latest Fox News poll says as long as they use the term 'likely voters' because that polling model is not going to be correct in 2008. With so many people voting early because of the Obama excitement factor, the outcome of this election may be decided before anyone votes on November 4th, 2008.

In The Final Days Of Election 2008, Obama Owns The Airwaves Because Of Money

There is an old saying in politics that goes something like this, 'the candidate that spends the most money in an election usually wins'. If that saying is still true in 2008, then by this time next week, Senator Barack Obama will be President Elect Obama after defeating Senator John McCain in a landslide election. Last night, Barack Obama bought airtime on most of the major television networks which cost his campaign millions of dollars. On the other hand, Senator John McCain not only could not match Obama's nationwide message - but in the closing days of this election he is being forced to watch his money closely because he accepted public financing.

In 2008, the race for President is the exact opposite of what most old time political hacks like myself have seen in the recent past. Usually it is the GOP that is flush with case contributions instead of Democrats. However, Barack Obama not only learned the game of fund raising well from his GOP opponents - but he also took the political campaign cash playing field to an all new level. It will be very interesting to not only see if Barack Obama wins on Tuesday night, but also to learn the margin of his victory. If Obama does not win on Tuesday, then his campaign will be one of the few in US history to lose a national election when they outspent their opponent better than 2 to 1.

If anyone would have told me four years ago that the first America-American candidate to be elected as President of the United States would be Barack Obama and that he would win that office by raising twice as much money as his Republican opponent, I would have called them crazy. However, there is little affection left for the GOP in the country right now - which makes 2008 the prefect time for Senator Barack Obama to become the next President.

Is US Major League Baseball A Dying Sport, World Series Ratings (2008) Down Sharply

Ratings for the World Series are getting so bad that soon no major television network is going to want to pay for the rights to cover this once coveted TV event. The ratings for this years World Series Games were even worse than last year and last years ratings were terrible, as well. It really doesn't matter which teams play in the World Series, even though the ratings are a small percentage higher when two major cities like New York and Los Angeles participate, but even then most regular prime-time television programming still draws a larger audience.

Contrast the ratings of the World Series with those of the Superbowl in professional football and the difference in the viewing audience is like the difference between day and night. While on any given night during the World Series, the network covering the games earn an audience of around eight to ten million people. While on Superbowl Sunday, over 100 million people always watch the game no matter which two teams are playing.

There use to be a saying in the United States that linked baseball, hot dogs and apple pie together as all being something that most Americans enjoyed. Right now, most Americans still love apple pie and hot dogs, but the same cannot be said for the sport of Major League Baseball which is fading fast from the minds of American sports fans.

Fed Funds Rate Cut To 1%, 50 Year Low As US Recession Deepens

The US Federal Reserve cut their 'fed funds rate' to 1% this afternoon as the recession of 2008 continues to drag down stocks and along with it much needed job creation. Let's just say that this move by the US Federal Reserve had better work, because there is only 1% more left to the downside before they will be loaning out money for free.

So many things went wrong in the US economy all at the same time and that is why most Americans are scared to death that things will get worse before they get better. In reality, I believe the US economy will continue to slide toward the downside for at least the next twelve months as greed and excessive unsustainable investment growth comes back down to a reasonable level. Put simply, all Americans have had it good for a very long time now.

About one year ago, I first knew there were going to be long term problems in the US economy when I started hearing radio ads proclaiming that a certain mortgage company would make home loans to anyone, despite credit problems, for no money down. Only in a some kind of fantasy world would such a practice even be considered. Now all Americans are paying for the sins of a few greedy people that used the money of others to make bad home mortgage loans and the unfortunate truth is that we will all experience more pain before relief heads our way.

Scott Peterson Sends Letters To Casey Anthony From California Death Row

This Story Has Been Proven False and Retracted From The Newspapers Website.

You just can't make this stuff up as fast as reality makes fantasy appear boring. Today, the Chicago Tribune is reporting that convicted murderer Scott Peterson has been sending letters to Casey Anthony. Anthony has been indicted on murder charges in the death of her young daughter, Caylee. When I first read this story on the Chicago Tribune website, the first thing that came to my mind was - sociopaths must like to communicate with each other.

While Scott Peterson has been writing to Casey Anthony, there is no word as of yet as to whether she has been writing back to him. In what will probably turn out to be a life sentence for Scott Peterson, California executes few murderers, he is sitting on death row in California today after being convicted of the murder of his wife and unborn child. The news that Scott Peterson is reaching out via snail mail to Casey Anthony is one of the most surreal events that has taken place so far since Caylee disappeared.

Mental health experts have claimed for years that there is some type of genetic flaw in the brains of sociopaths that prevent them from feeling the pain of others. Instead, they only understand their own feelings and pain. My guess is that Scott Peterson is seeking out Casey Anthony because he believes that she is exactly like him and more than likely he is right in that belief. In time, mental health professional will understand more about how the mind of a sociopath works, but for right now all of us are fair game to their twisted desires.

Under President Obama The US Will Resemble The 1970's Again

During the 1970's, I was in high school and for many of us that period of time was the best of our life. Of course, there were many negative aspects to the 1970's that our brains do not let us remember because of an abundance of excess in the flowing spirits department. If Obama wins next week as expected, the US will move back into the direction of the 1970's in many ways.

Starting in the 1980's, conservative Republicans under the leadership of the late President Ronald Reagan began to take the United States in a more conservative and yes even evangelical religious direction. Over time, many things changed in the United States like the drinking age and the power of the FCC to regulate television programming. Also tougher laws on illegal drugs became the norm in most regions of the country.

Now with a liberal President of the United States almost ready to take office and along with him an additional 100 or so liberal Democrats adding to their current majorities in both houses of Congress - in many ways the United States will start to resemble the 1970's once again in a short period of time. Of course, just like in the past - some people will go overboard and within a decade or two, conservatives will once again take over our government and history will repeat itself once again.

Should Election Day In the US Become A National Holiday For All Citizens?

The Barack Obama campaign for President is encouraging their supports to ask for the day off at work on Tuesday so they can not only vote, but also help others with transportation to the polls. While some GOP hard core conservatives don't like this idea, in my opinion it is a good one and the US Congress should consider making each presidential election day in the United States a national holiday for everyone.

While it is constitutionally mandated that presidential elections be held on the first Tuesday in the month of November, there is nothing stopping the US Congress from creating a new holiday for all people just like they have done for dead Presidents and other notable people that made this country a better place to live. For most working Americans, it is inconvenient to get to the polls on a Tuesday because some folks work two or more jobs with few breaks.

In my personal opinion, there would be greater voter turnout if the first Tuesday in November in a presidential election year was designated as a national holiday for all Americans. For too long, some people that want to keep others from voting have put up roadblocks which make it difficult for them to do their civic duty. With the likely election of Barack Obama as the next President of the United States, maybe some of those roadblocks will be removed so all people can get out and vote on election day.

Bear Market Rallies Are Extremely Exciting To Watch, Upside Down Mentality

Today there was another amazing 'Bear Market Rally' on Wall Street as the DOW rose almost 1000 points in a single day. It is important to remember that during a 'Bear Market' stocks work in the exact opposite way as they do during a 'Bull Market'. That means that when stocks are climbing their 'wall of worry' during a Bull Market, sell offs to the downside are always greater than any of the up days.

During a 'Bear Market' stocks tend to trend lower, day in and day out, and every once in awhile there is a massive surge to the upside and that is what happened today. Today's blowout to the upside on Wall Street does not mean that the 'Bear Market' of 2008 is over, it just means that Bull and Bear Markets each have their own signatures - even though it has been a long time since Wall Street went through a protracted Bear Market.

Prepare for many more days when the DOW will increase by almost or even more than 1000 points in a single day. While some will take today's increase in the stock market as a sign that the 2008 'Bear Market' in stocks is over, please don't fall for that trap. As long as companies are not making as much money as they use to and the layoff rate at major companies continues to be higher than their new hires - this Wall Street Bear Market will keep humming right along and playing many tricks on the minds of investors around the world.

Demise Of Conservatism Began With Outrageous Terri Schiavo Decision/Law

As the obituaries are being written on the modern day Republican Party, one chapter that will be forgotten by many is the outrageous decision made by former 'House Majority Leader Tom DeLay' and then rubber stamped by all congressional Republicans and which was also supported by President Bush - in the Terri Schiavo 'right to die' case. The Terri Schiavo Law proved to many Republicans that our party (GOP) had left the reservation of separation of church and state and was heading directly for a combination of the two.

I still remember that Easter weekend when a GOP lead Congress pushed through a law that was designed for only one American. The Terri Schiavo Law also sent a shot across the bow of the United States judicial system which made it clear that the US Congress was going to try and take over their turf if judges did not play ball with right wing Republicans. After members of the GOP passed this law against the wishes of most people in their own party, the GOP began to crack into and today there is little left of the Grand Old Party because folks that were not religious zealots abandoned the GOP.

In the final days of the 2008 race for the White House, Senator John McCain has been working overtime to try and put the pieces of the Republican Party back together again in order to win. However, the GOP has been breaking apart ever since the Terri Schiavo Law was passed and no Republican leader has ever admitted that their support of this law was a mistake. So, the damage that this law did to the GOP continued to eat away at the foundation of the Republican Party to the point that after Tuesday's election, there will be few Republicans left in Washington D.C..

HW Bush Destroy The Economy, George W. Also Wiped Out The Reagan Revolution

As election day nears and Democrat Barack Obama is preparing to win Tuesday's election in a landslide, now is as good of a time as any to reflect back on the history of President's George HW and George W. Bush. From a political point of view, father and son have different opinions with HW being a moderate Republican and George W. claiming to be a Ronald Reagan conservative.

In the final analyst, both father (HW) and son (W) hurt this country more than they helped it when they both served as President of the United States. While the political ideology of HW and W are different, both men found a way to leave the US economy in worse shape on their way out of office than they found it when they came in.

I believe it will be a long time before the American people will trust anyone from the Bush political family again to serve in our nations highest office. While most members of the Bush family are likable, there is something wrong with this families judgement when it comes to their role in government and with the terrible economic track record left behind by both George HW and George W. Bush after their service as President of the United States - it will be better to be safe than sorry the next time a member of this family decides to seek the Office of President.

Election Is Over, Barack Obama Will Win In A Landslide On November 4th, 2008

In less than a week, voters from all across America will choose Senator Barack Obama from Illinois as the next President of the United States in a landslide election that has not been seen since the days of the late President Ronald Reagan. While Senator John McCain supporters are still holding onto hope, in reality there is nothing they can do or say to turn the tide at this late date to prevent Obama from becoming the next President of the United States.

Landslide presidential elections have been few and far between in recent years as the United States of America has become polarized between the left and the right. However, in 2008 there was one issue that bonded both conservatives and liberals to the campaign of Barack Obama and that issue was the terrible job the Bush administration did at regulating the outrageous behavior of 'fat cats' on Wall Street. President Bush was not the first or last politician that will be taken in by rich people wanting to play their games against the American people without consequence.

In reality, it was a lame duck Congress at the end of the Clinton administration that allow this outrage on Wall Street to be perpetrated against the American people, but when all the media cirrus dies down and the fingers of blame start pointing in earnest at a culprit, it will be George W. Bush that will take the bulk of the blame. The truth is that while it was a lame duck Congress and a Democratic President that allow Wall Street to run crazy in 2008, President Bush did nothing to try and correct this issue and in the end, 'all hell broke loose' on his watch as President of the United States.

Pros/Cons Of Putting Casey Anthony On Trial For Murder Without A Body

Long ago, most people that have been following the case of missing Caylee Anthony and the potential involvement of her mother Casey Anthony in her disappearance have already formed an opinion of her guilt or innocents. In my view, most people that I have talked to or read about on the Internet believe that Casey Anthony is guilty as sin in the disappearance of her daughter Caylee and most of those folks believe that Casey should pay with her life for that crime.

What is important to keep in mind about this case is that most juries take their charge from a judge very seriously in a murder case and without the young body of Caylee Anthony, Orange County prosecutors could find it difficult to get a jury to convict Casey Anthony of murder without the body of her daughter to prove that the young girl is indeed deceased. In this area of law what is believed by most people carries much less weight than the evidence presented at trial.

The pros of putting Casey Anthony on trial for the murder of her daughter without a body to prove that she is dead, is the fact that Caylee's body may never be found and in such a case the person police most believe committed that murder, Casey Anthony, would never be brought to justice. On the cons side of putting Casey Anthony on trial for murder without producing the body of Caylee, is the fact she could be guilty as sin and without a body there might not be a murder conviction. In such a case, 'Double Jeopardy' would apply to Casey Anthony and even if she confessed after a not guilty verdict, she would be able to live her life as a free woman without being forced to pay for her crime against young Caylee.

Guiding President Barack Obama Toward A Moderate Path After The Election

The first order of business for the new President Obama administration is to get the candidate to temper some of his old style liberal values and moderate them to positions that most Americans can stomach. While Obama ran an excellent campaign to not only become the democratic nominee for President, he also ran an almost perfect campaign against John McCain in the general election. That said, Barack Obama would not be the next President of the United States if George W. Bush had not messed up the country and the GOP with his terrible choices.

Now lets take some time and look at reality, because that is what President Obama is going to face on day one when he becomes the next President of the United States. While Obama will more than likely win next weeks election in a landslide, he should not confuse that victory as a voter mandate to start socializing the United States of America. For the most part, Americans are still moderate to conservative in the opinions and if a President Obama starts down a losing path of taking the US toward socialism in his first few weeks in office - he will lose much of the good will that he will have earned with the American people.

In a funny sort of way, what the American people want in 2009 is the very thing that John McCain was offering to them in the year 2000. 'Straight Talk' about what is really happening with the economy and ideas that he (Obama) has about fixing it should be front and center his number one priority when he becomes the next President. The sad news for John McCain is that in 2000 his campaign of 'Straight Talk' was a loser because of the underhanded election tactics of George W. Bush, but that type of campaign would be been a winner for him in 2008. Instead, McCain choose to follow a strict conservative line, which conservatives did not buy into in 2008 and when all the votes are counted next Tuesday night, McCain will find himself coming up short.

If The Polls Are Right, GOP Lawmakers Could Be In Short Supply After The Election

If current polling data holds up, once a new Congress and President are sworn in in January of 2009, Members of the Congress with an (R) after their name could resemble an endangered species. I have read of numbers as high as 100 hundred when describing the possible democratic gains in the Congress as a victorious Barack Obama presidential bid drags dozens of other Democrats into the Congress on his coattails.

You would have to go back decades to find another time when Democrats had total control of Washington D.C. and a President that will be unlikely to veto much of their ideas from becoming law. As President Elect Barack Obama takes the oath of office in January of 2009 and hundreds of additional GOP Members of Congress are replaced by Democrats, the next four years in the United States is going to look completely different than most people alive today have ever seen.

There is even a good chance that the US Senate could have 60 or more democratic members after next weeks elections and if that happens there will be no way for the GOP to stop anything the Democrats want to do in the Congress. While some folks will like the democratic changes, others will not and when the anger of exactly what happened to the GOP finally sets in with the rank and file - the blame for the GOP election catastrophe will be put at the feet of President Bush and his crony's in the Congress that ruined conservatism for the foreseeable future.

US Home Prices Drop, New Buyers Market Available For The Few With Cash/Credit

Over the past two months there has been a resurgence of home sales around the United States, but for the people that own those homes - they are being required to drop their asking price significantly in order to attract buyers. The housing market of 2008 is most certainly a buyers market where people that must sell their homes are being forced to drop the price of their properties to whatever the market will bear, while the rich folks with cash on hand are legally stealing them for nickels on the dollar in some locations.

The recession of 2008 in many ways is just like previous recessions in the fact that the few with the money will in the end become mega wealthy because they had cash on hand to buy real estate when the market was at rock bottom. This scenario has played itself out for generations in the United States and since few people choose to study or even try to learn from history, the same darn thing is happening all over again. This is the reason why the rich will always be rich and the poor will always be poor. It's all a matter of priorities and choices.

In five or ten years the US housing market will once again turn around and at that point in time the people that are buying homes today at discount prices will sell them back to the same people that sold them before at the bottom at a greatly inflated price. Then this whole process will play itself out again in a few more decades and at the end of the day the poor and middle class will always be worse off, while the super rich will become even more wealthy.

Rush Limbaugh's Ratings Will Soar If Barack Obama Is Elected President

If Barack Obama is elected President of the United States next Tuesday and also if the Democrats pick up dozens of extra seats in the Congress - I expect the radio ratings of talk show Rush Limbaugh to go through the roof. The reason Rush Limbaugh will benefit from a Barack Obama presidency is the same reason Limbaugh became mega wealthy during the eight years Bill Clinton was the President.

Anytime a Democrat is elected to the highest office in the land, the major mainstream news media completely throws away any sense of fair coverage and their need to be biased in favor of a democratic President causes the other 50% of Americans that do not feel the same way to search for alternative news outlets to listen to for a conservative slant to national political coverage.

While I take Rush Limbaugh at his word that he completely supporters Senator John McCain, in my gut I know that down deep inside he (Rush Limbaugh) understands all to well that his fortunes and audience will grow tremendously under a Barack Obama administration. In a way, Rush Limbaugh is in a no lose situation right now because in one way he wins if McCain wins - but he could also win even more if Obama is elected the next President.

Pros/Cons Of Democrats Controlling Both The Congress And White House

As election day is now only one week away, many people are already talking about what will happen in Washington D.C. if Democrats control both houses of Congress and the White House. In reality, many things will change for almost everyone that lives in the United States of America. The pros and cons of a totally run democratically controlled Washington will depend on which side of what is best for America you come down on.

If you are a liberal Democrat, the pros of a Washington completely controlled by the Democratic Party will far outweigh the cons. Since most liberals believe in a larger role for government in most aspects of life, a Democratically controlled White House and Congress will further your wishes to see the government more involve in the daily aspects of American life. Another aspect on the pros side of a Democratically controlled Congress and White House will be higher wages for the poor and lower middle class and when added to lower taxes the standard of living of the poor will greatly increase.

The cons side of a totally controlled Washington by Democrats will revolve around the loss of many jobs because more pressure will be put on businesses to offer additional benefits and if a business has a small margin of profit on their goods or services in the first place, some businesses will choose to close their doors because they will not be able to afford the extra benefits that will be required by the federal government. If you are rich, the biggest thing on the cons side of a totally controlled Washington by Democrats will be that your taxes will go up and it is likely that you will make less money from businesses and investments under total democratic control.

Racist Skinheads Plot To Assassinate Obama, Behead Hundreds Of Black Students

Law enforcement officials announced today that they had broken up a criminal plan by two young white skinheads where they planned to assassinate presidential candidate Barack Obama and then attack a mainly African-American school and behead as many as 100 black students. Thank God these guys were stopped before they could carry out their sinister plan.

While the United States is the best country in the world, we do have our share of crazy nuts and outright racist that would rather kill than make a positive contribution to the great nation. Racist Skinheads are some of the worst people that walk the face of the Earth because their entire reason for being is based solely on the hatred of others that look different from them.

For months now, the US Secret Service has been doing an outstanding job at protecting Senator Obama as he has made his way around this country seeking the job of President of the United States. Everyone knew when Obama entered this campaign that there would be racist who could never accept a black man as President and as the election is drawing closer and it is looking more likely everyday that Obama is going to win - I expect more of these kinds of arrest to be made over the next week.

Ted Stevens Of Alaska Found Guilty Of Accepting Gifts Without Disclosing Them

One of the longest serving members of the US Senate, Ted Stevens of Alaska, was convicted in federal court today of accepting gifts from friends and lobbyist and not reporting them on disclosure forms as required by law and Senate rules. Senator Stevens is 84 years old and is current seeking reelection in Alaska this November.

Over the history of Congress, there have been many good men and women that have left their homes in far away states and traveled to Washington D.C. with high hopes of making a difference by serving their country. However, while most Members of Congress are never prosecuted for illegal activity, some members like Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska find themselves in trouble with the law when overly excited supporters and lobbyist start to shower them with gifts and special treatment.

Today's conviction of Ted Stevens will end his political career and more than likely it will help the Democrats pick up an additional US Senate seat in Alaska where a victory there was still in doubt. Senator Stevens has had his family by his side throughout this trial and most certainly they will remain loyal to him as he appeals this conviction. Senator Ted Stevens conviction is just another example of why term limits are needed for Members of Congress.

Going From Bad To Worse, Jennifer Hudson's Nephew Found Dead In Chicago

While the murder of anyone is a terrible thing to have to report, when that murder involves a young child - my feelings of sadness quickly turn to rage because of the senselessness of the crime. Today, Chicago police found an older model Chevrolet Suburban that they had been searching for which belonged to their chief suspect in the murder case of Jennifer Hudson's mom and brother and while searching the inside of that abandoned vehicle they found the body of Hudson's nephew, as well.

While it is easy to blame these murders on the violent nature of of our society, in reality the murders of Jennifer Hudson's mother, brother and now nephew go far beyond the violence that makes up everyday life on the South Side of Chicago and brings into focus what a single disturbed individual is capable of doing when they don't get their way.

In tragic stories like this one there is a total breakdown in the moral fabric of a single individual and that moral disconnect allows them to believe that it is OK to take the lives of others because they did not receive something they thought they were due. Now three people lay dead in Chicago because of the uncontrollable behavior of one single person. Unfortunately, this type of scenario is played out all over the United States everyday - but most of the time stories like this one never get past the local evening news and a short write up in the morning newspaper.

McCain's October Surprise, 'Obama Is A Marxist' Wants Redistribution Of Wealth

Old political junkies like myself have been waiting for the 'October Surprise' of the 2008 campaign and early today be got it. Lead by Matt Drudge of the 'Drudge Report', the McCain October Surprise that is designed to take Senator Barack Obama off his game is a 2001 radio interview in Chicago where Obama expressed opinions similar to those of Karl Marx. This October Surprise by Senator John McCain was launched several weeks ago when McCain embraced 'Joe the Plumber' after he confronted Obama about his tax policies in the streets of a small northeastern Ohio town.

Ever since that chance encounter between 'Joe the Plumber' and Senator Barack Obama, Senator John McCain has been trying to link the policies of Obama to Karl Marx. I do not believe that Barack Obama is Marxist, but Obama is most certainly the most liberal person that has had a chance to win the White House in a long time. Now that we know what John McCain's 'October Surprise' is, the next questions is will it help propel him to victory next month?

My opinion is no, because right now John McCain is simply grabbing at straws as the 2008 presidential election is quickly moving Senator Barack Obama's way. Frankly, most young voters in the United States have not even heard of Karl Marx or Marxism in their lifetime. For most young people the idea of Marxism is more akin to the stories of 'Robin Hood' where he stole from the rich to give to the poor. While Marxism is a most certainly failed political form of government, in reality while Obama does want to help the poor - his ideas are not designed to make the rich poor, either.

Feds Expected To Lower Interest Rates Again, Could They Fall To 0%?

The past few weeks I have become disgusted by a commercial that seems to run all the time on TV. That commercial is for Toyota cars and trucks and along with this commercial there is a terrible jingle that keeps singing over and over again a song called, 'Saved By Zero'. While there is no way anyone could mistake what the real meaning of this commercial is about, yesterday while that commercial seemed to run endlessly during the Dallas Cowboys football game - I started to ask myself if the US Federal Reserve is going to lower interest rates in the US to 0%, as well?

The worldwide economy is shot right now and the few people that still have money left are watching over it like they would a new born child. This protective action has had the effect of drying up credit for both business and consumers equally and even big banks that have always loaned money to each other during trying economic times are now refusing to even loan money to each other. Central banks around the world and the US Federal Reserve are trying to find ways to ease these concerns and get big banks and insurance companies to start loaning money once again. However, to date these efforts have not been successful.

Later this week, the US Federal Reserve and other central bankers around the world are expected to lower interest rates once again. Right now, short term interest rates are at a historically low point anyway - so what real good will come from further rate reductions and also would a Federal Reserve attempt to lower short term interest rates to 0% solve the problem? In reality, when markets are this uncertain - short term interest rates have little effect on overall market conditions. While all the powers that be try to put a foundation back under the worldwide economy, right now all they are finding is a bunch of shifting sand.

Some Say That US Gas Prices Will Be Below $1 Per Gallon By Christmas 2008

I know it sounds impossible, but some experts are now saying that the average price of regular unleaded gas in the United States could be below $1 per gallon by Christmas 2008. If anyone needed remaining that the US economy was in a severe recession, this news should wipe away any remaining doubts. The reason why gas prices are going down so quickly is because the industrial nations of the world don't need as much crude oil as they once did because their economies are slowing down right along side our economy in the US.

For the next few years, most of the world economies are going to be in the same bad shape as the United States of America and there is little anyone can really do about it. After a fully fledged and unregulated Wall Street allowed all of us to discover the 'poor house' when all the rest of us saw were happy days, now the world is following the US lead recession in the the cellar of bad financial news and only time will eventually fix this man made recession created by greed.

While no one is really talking about the pockets of the few people that all of this money went into right now, soon there will be investigations by the US federal government that will smoke out these high tech thieves and bring them to justice. According to a report on '60 Minutes' last night, many of the guilty parties that brought the US economy to it's knees ran hedge funds and unbelievably walked away with billions of dollars in profits as the rest of the US economy went into the toilet. There will soon be a day of reckoning for these greedy fools and when all is said and done they will not only pay for their greed by forfeiting their ill gotten gains, but some of them will spend the rest of their lives in a US federal prison.

Voter Suppression Worries Collide With Registration Fraud As Election Nears

2008 would not be a normal election year in the United States if there were not Democrats yelling that hundreds of thousands of voters voices were being suppressed by Republicans while at the same time members of the GOP are yelling just as loudly that people who are not even Americans are being allowed to vote. This argument between Democrats and Republicans has been going on since before I was born and I'm sure it will still be around long after I am dead.

These dark room political tactics are used by Democrats and Republicans to stir up their base of supporters to get out and vote on election day. In reality, very few voter problems will occur on election day, just like what was the case in all previous elections. Instead, election day will come and go and at the end of the day either Barack Obama or John McCain will be the next President of the United States and life will go on in America until the next election and these same crazy issues are used to once again stir up the base.

In 2008, it is Senator John McCain that is trying to stir up the base of the GOP more so than Barack Obama needing to stir up Democrats. The reason is that basic conservatives in the Republican Party have never really trusted McCain and when election day comes and goes, McCain will lose not because of Barack Obama - but because conservatives will not take the time to vote for McCain just because he is a Republican.

Gas Prices In Texas Drop Below $2 Per Gallon In Some Locations

In some parts of Texas, the price of regular unleaded gas has dropped below $2 per gallon for the first time in a long time. Over the past three weeks, gas prices in and around Waco, Texas have been dropping several times per day and at some locations that magic $2 per gallon level has been surpassed to the downside.

Until this latest drop in gas prices, I did not believe it was possible for gas prices to drop as fast as they were going up at the beginning of the summer. However, much to my surprise - I was wrong about that fact as here in Central Texas, the price of gas has dropped some days three or more times within a 24 hour period of time.

Today, I saw a convenience store that was advertising gas for $1.99 per gallon and there were long lines around that station. My guess is that there was so much built up consumer demand for a gas price below $2 per gallon that some folks just rushed in to buy gas even if their tanks were not empty. While the stock portfolios of most Americans are in the cellar, at least one good thing is happening in the US economy and that is the constant lowering of gas prices all over Texas and nationwide.

Dallas Cowboys Survive Against Buccaneers Today In Close Defensive Game

The Dallas Cowboys won their game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers today by a very narrow margin, but as they always say in the NFL - a win is a win. The major improvement with the Dallas Cowboys this weekend over last was the intensity that the defense played against the Buccaneers. For weeks, the Dallas Cowboys defense has been struggling to find it's way as both good and bad teams have run them all over the football field and almost scored points at will against them.

In today's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Dallas Cowboys defense showed up to play and without that fantastic defensive effort the Cowboys would be sitting at 4-4 right now instead of 5-3. Next week, the Dallas Cowboys play the New York Giants in an away game and still without the assistance of starting quarterback Tony Romo, who will still be sidelined for several weeks so his 'pinky' finger can heal from a small fracture that he suffered a few weeks ago.

This past week, Dallas Cowboys head coach Wade Phillip spend a great deal of his time working with the defense. From the play of the Cowboys defense today, that effort paid off 'big time' - so hopefully Coach Phillips will do the same thing again in preparation for the New York Giants. If the Dallas Cowboys can find some way to defeat the New York Giants next weekend, they will be going into their bi-week with a winning record. While I have been very disappointed in the on field play of the Cowboys so far this season, today against the Buccaneers - the 'boys' gave me and millions of other fans some hope of what this team could really become if they get the right kind of coaching.

Will US Military Action Against Syria Effect Voters On Election Day?

While I would not call the actions of US special forces against a small village in Syria this week something akin to an 'October Surprise', none the less anytime there is something different that happens with the US military - that action usually reverberates around an election. My personal opinion is that the Bush administration did not do John McCain any favors by allowing this military cross broader excursion to take place just days before McCain faces Obama at the polls.

With this one step, President Bush put the unpopular War in Iraq back on the front burner and that issue is a loser for McCain with all but extreme conservatives. Neither John McCain or Barack Obama have been talking much about the War in Iraq over the past few months, but instead they have both focused their attention on the struggling US economy.

Now with US 'Special Forces' attacking a small village in Syria in a cross boarder raid that killed several people, the John McCain campaign will find itself forced to defend the actions of President Bush at the very time McCain is trying to distance himself from the President. In some ways it almost seems like President Bush is looking for ways to hurt McCain in his bid to become the next President of the United States.

Democrats Hope For Big Gains In Both The US House/US Senate, 2008 Election

Leaders in both the US House of Representatives and US Senate are quietly licking their chops today as new polls show that democratic candidates are expecting to do well in this years elections. While most of the news media are focusing their attention on the presidential battle between Obama and McCain, democratic leaders in the Congress are expecting to gain majorities in both the US House and US Senate that will be larger than they have seen in decades.

While few members of the GOP are openly blaming President Bush for this awaiting catastrophe, once the November election is over - they will once again become bold and blame the then previous President for all of their problems. Of course, President Bush is somewhat to blame for GOP problems, but Members of Congress are just as much to blame for their own demise because of their lack of backbone to stand up to President Bush when he was their party leader.

It is well past time for all of the current GOP leadership in the Congress to be replaced so the Grand Old Party can rebuild itself into a new image. The current Republican Party looks more like Democrats than conservative leaders in the tradition of Ronald Reagan. When a political party like the GOP implodes, the only thing for the rank and file to do is to elect new leaders that are not already corrupted by the big money interest of Washington. The GOP is far from finished, but just like with stocks - a big shake out needs to take place so the party can once again start to grow in the right way.

US Helicopters/Troops Attack A Village Inside Syria, Unconfirmed By Military

There are sketchy reports coming of the the nation of Syria this afternoon that US Helicopters and troops attacked a village, ten miles from the Iraq border, and killed dozens of people. As of the writing of this post, the US military has yet to comment on the truthfulness of this report.

Even since the United States went to war with Iraq, there have been insurgents entering Iraq from Syria who's sole purpose has been to disrupted the new government of Iraq and also to attack and kill US soldiers stationed there. If the US military did attack a village 10 miles inside of Syria, my guess is that it was some kind of mistake or there was a target in that village that the US really needed to take out.

However, if this cross border military actions turns out to be some kind of accident - then there will be hell to pay not only from top levels of the military, but from President Bush as well. Hopefully, there will be additional news coming out about this possible cross border attack later today which will better explain exactly what happened in Syria today.

McCain's Latest Promise To Voters, 'I Will Balance The US Budget'

The John McCain campaign must be in terrible trouble right now as the Arizona Senator comes up with a new promise per day in order to get reluctant conservatives to vote for him. The McCain campaign is in trouble not because Obama is a better campaigner or because his ideas are right on target with what the American people want - but instead McCain is behind because conservatives are not going to vote for him on election day.

No candidate for President can win election without a big majority of the members of their own political party supporting them at the polls. For years conservatives have not trusted McCain because many of his actions in the US Senate were more akin to a liberal democrat than to a Ronald Reagan conservative. Now, even with 'big time' conservatives lining up to support McCain - the rank and file voters are not buying their arguments, but instead they are trusting their gut when it comes to McCain's campaign promises.

Election night in 2008 could be one of the shortest in recent memory as it is likely that Obama will be declared the winner before most people sit down to watch the 11pm news on the East Coast. The shear level of desperation in the McCain campaign tells me that there are some very disturbing trends that are being seen in their polling data, which likely show that McCain is going to lose the election.

Will 2008 Be A Slow Christmas Shopping Season For US Retailers?

With the US economy in a full blown recession and banks and credit card companies lowering or eliminating their credit limits, the 2008 Christmas shopping season for retailers will most certainly be slower then it was in 2007. Just how slow the 2008 Christmas shopping season will be has yet to be determined.

For far too long, Americans have relied on plastic (credit cards) to purchase gifts for Christmas and then they spent the next twelve months paying off those bills at very high interest rates. In 2008, Christmas shopping is going to be very different for most Americans as there will be less easy credit available to purchase the high ticket items they have bought in the past, which will in turn cause major retailers like Walmart and Target to start to discount their Christmas items much earlier than they expected to do when they started planning this Christmas season months ago.

My personal opinion is that 2008 will be a banner year for online shopping in the US. Unlike traveling from store to store looking for the best price on a Christmas gift, millions of Americans will use the Internet to find and buy those gifts at greatly reduced prices. This trend toward Internet shopping in 2008 will further put pressure on local retail locations to also cut their prices much earlier than they would prefer to do.

Will US Taxpayers Be Asked To Bailout Member Nations Of OPEC Next?

Bailout fever has caught fire in Washington D.C. recently as first Members of Congress were asked to bailout some corrupt businessmen on Wall Street and then last week word started to leak out that taxpayers might be asked to bailout out big insurance companies, too. Next, don't be surprised if some of the former richest nations in the world, Members of OPEC, don't show up in Washington trying to get taxpayers to bail them out, as well.

As we all have noticed, the price of crude oil and it's main commodity, gasoline, have been dropping multiple times per day at most gas stations around the country for the past several weeks. For OPEC nations that only a few short months ago laughed at President Bush when he asked them to increase production to help out US gas consumers, they are now facing a recession of their own and more than likely these same folks that laughed at American consumers when crude oil prices were high - will now show up and try to get those same consumers to bail them out with an OPEC bailout package.

While the idea of bailing out member nations of OPEC will turn the stomachs of most Americans, more than likely our smart by half leaders in the US Congress will probably approve helping out these folks that laughed at us when we were having problems last spring and reward them with even more of our hard earned tax money so they can do the same darn thing all over again once crude oil prices stabilize.

Matt Drudge Works Overtime To Help Elect John McCain The Next President

With millions of conservatives visiting his website each and every day, Matt Drudge - the publisher of the 'Drudge Report', has a great deal of influence when it comes to political elections. For years, I have visited Matt's website several times per day to see what is happening politically from a right of center point of view and for political junkies like myself - the 'Drudge Report' is a must read.

In the past couple of days I have noticed that Matt Drudge has moved away from just a right of center reporter of this presidential campaign to an all out extremist right winger in his efforts to get the conservative base of the Republican Party to vote on election day. While many polls still show John McCain with a chance to win, only the deepest of the political insiders of both the GOP and Democratic Party's know the real truth of which way the American people are likely to vote next month.

While I do not know Matt Drudge personally, I do believe he is well connected with high powers in the GOP that have shared with him and other notable Republican commentators like Rush Limbaugh the full extent of how badly McCain is going to lose on election day. That is why Matt and Rush have left the reservation of common sense and gone completely toward 'red meat' politics because the main reason McCain is going to lose in November is not because of the strength of Barack Obama, but because the Republican base is not going to show up and vote for McCain.

Polls Are All Over The Map In The Final Weeks Of The Campaign

I wrote a few days ago about a phenomenon of elections called the 'Herd Mentality'. Since most people alive today are followers, instead of leaders, a vast majority of voters tend to follow the crowd come election day. This 'Herd Mentality' is the reason there is such a wide variance in the presidential tracing polls between John McCain and Barack Obama.

Pollsters learned a long time ago that they could not only effect the answers to questions given by poll respondents, but they could also word those questions in a way that would actually influence the way people on the telephone responded. That is the reason why one poll might show Obama ahead by 10% and another poll taken the same day will show McCain tied.

Since both campaigns know and understand this 'Herd Mentality' very well, it is in both McCain and Obama's interest to show American voters quickly moving to their campaign as election day draws near. While the 'Herd Mentality' of the American people is well documented, the fact that when Americans are mad at one party so much they get a 'throw the bums out' mentality then that attitude out trumps the 'Herd Mentality' every single time.

Brad Johnson/Dallas Cowboys Battle The Buccaneers Tomorrow

Backup Dallas Cowboys quarterback Brad Johnson will make his second starting appearance tomorrow as the 'boys' play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Dallas. There is no other way to put the on field play of the Dallas Cowboys last week as to say it was terrible. Don't get me wrong, Brad Johnson was not the only reason the Cowboys lost that game to the St. Louis Cardinals - but he didn't help much either.

Most of the problems that the Dallas Cowboys are experiencing in their 2008 season revolve around the defense which in my view has been playing horrible. The good news coming out of this week was that head coach Wade Phillips, who is known for his good defensive coaching skills is now taking a more active role in coaching the defense during practice. Right now, I believe Wade Phillips should just take over the defense and leave the head coaching duties to someone else.

While tomorrow's game between the Dallas Cowboys and Tampa Bay Buccaneers should be a good one, if Dallas does not show up to play defense and allows the Buccaneers to jump out to an early lead - then the game might be over before it really gets started for the Cowboys. Something major must happen to the mental approach to the game of football by all the Dallas Cowboys players, or Cowboys fans like me are going to suffer through a long hard season.

From The South Side Of Chicago To Hollywood, Jennifer Hudson Story

The murder capital of the United States, Chicago, claimed two more victims last night as Oscar winning actress Jennifer Hudson lost her mother and brother to murder. Considering the rough South Side Chicago streets Jennifer Hudson grew up on, to living along side the rich in famous in Hollywood - life must have seemed almost perfect for Ms. Hudson until yesterday.

With the tremendous success that Jennifer Hudson found in Hollywood, I was surprised to learn yesterday that her mother and brother still lived on Chicago's South Side, which has been known for it's history of violence since the 1960's. I guess it could be that Jennifer Hudson's mom and brother did not want to move away from the neighborhood they grew up in, but considering there was a financial opportunity for them to leave - Ms. Hudson must be sick today knowing that she did not get her mom and brother out of that terrible neighborhood.

Chicago has had a bad reputation for crime going all the way back to the days of Al Capone. In recent months, the Chicago Police Department has once again been rocked with stories of police abuse. If there is one city I would not want to live in today, it would be Chicago because not only is their murder rate higher than any other major city in the United States, but their police department is also crippled at the worst possible time.

Will The Rich Really Suffer Under An Obama Administration?

With all the negative campaign ads being run by the Senator John McCain campaign against the tax policies of Senator Barack Obama, a casual observer might conclude that a Barack Obama presidency would severely hurt the richest of the rich in the United States. Trust me, nothing could be further from the truth because tax policy is written in the Congress and the people that have the most money to lobby the Congress, the rich, will make sure that there are loopholes that will keep them rich at the expense of the poor and middle class.

Even if the rich are unsuccessful at limiting their tax liability in the US Congress, it is easy for them to move their business interests and wealth to other nations with more attractive tax policies. Have you even heard that old saying that says, 'he who has the Gold, makes the rules'? In reality, that statement is very correct and the people with the money are not shy about spending some of it to make sure politicians see things their way in the end.

So if Barack Obama is elected as the next President of the United States, don't shed too many tears for the mega wealthy in this country because they are going to still stay rich. The biggest benefit to the rest of us that are not super rich is that the money playing field will be set up in a more of a fair manner and that more level playing field will create greater opportunities for others to enter the rich category sometime down the road.

Arkansas TV Anchor, Anne Pressly, Dies As The Result Of A Beating

Last week a beautiful young television news anchor from Little Rock, Arkansas was severely beaten at her home in an apparent robbery attempt. In a sad twist of fate, tonight, Anne Pressly died from the injuries she suffer in that apparent robbery gone bad. Unfortunately, these kinds of home invasions happen all the time - but mostly they are not covered in the major mainstream news media unless someone pretty or famous in killed.

While I feel terrible for Anne Pressly's parents, there is a double standard when it comes to reporting violent crimes like this one and the most vocal national cable television network that has been running full speed ahead in covering this story has been Fox News. For the pretty talking heads that make up Fox News, this story of Anne Pressly hits home on two different levels. 1st ( She was one of their own because she earned her living reporting the news and 2nd ( she was a beautiful young woman that was the victim of a violent crime which are tailor made for the Fox News Channel.

Don't get me wrong, there are some stories that Fox News covers better than anyone else - but I often wonder if the choice for their lead story came down to a decision of covering a major disaster or the case of a missing beautiful young woman, which story would Fox News decide to lead with? In television news it's all about the ratings and unfortunately it is we the America people that lead cable news networks like Fox News to cover these kinds of stories on a national basis because we are all too eager to keep up with what is going on.

Positive Early Voting Experience At Local School Today

My wife and I voted early today at a local school not far from our home. Nothing could have been easier and we were in and out of the voting booth in less than ten minutes. Along with us, dozens of other people were also casting their votes early on a beautiful October Saturday afternoon in Central Texas.

In 2006, we voted early for the first time and that experience was very positive as well. While it might take a few more years, I believe that eventually all states will have early voting options and when that option is available to all voters, there will be more people showing up to vote. Today, like in 2006 - my wife and I voted on new electronic voting machines which made the process easier and quicker than the old fashion written ballots we used in years past.

While voting is a very important thing to most people, I would like to encourage people that read my blog to get out early and vote for your favorite candidates. Here in Texas, public officials believe that as many as 30% of the voting public will show up and vote during early voting in 2008. While there were other people at the polls today when we voted, there were no long lines or any problems which delayed my wife and I from doing our civic duty and voting for our favorite candidates.

John Kerry Wants FDR New Deal Brought Back To Deal With The Economy

Former presidential candidate and Massachusetts Senator John Kerry believes that the best way to solve the current economic problems in the US is to bring back the 'New Deal' policies of the late President Franklin Roosevelt (FDR). The 'New Deal' was created during the Great Depression of the late 1930's and early 1940's as a way to jump start the US economy while at the same time creating jobs for millions of out of work Americans.

While Senator Kerry's comments about bringing back the 'New Deal' policies of FDR do create headlines in the media, in reality the current economic conditions of the United States of America are no where close to as bad as they were back during the 'Great Depression'. In my opinion, politicians like Senator Kerry made themselves look dumb and completely out of touch when they try to equate the current US economic problems with what happened during the Great Depression.

Yes, the US is going through a severe recession right now - but I have not seen any bread lines as of yet handing out free food and most people I know still have a job - even though their company might not be expanding as quickly as it once did. Sure, there are problems with the US economy right now - but bringing back a government program of the 1930's to deal with our current set of problems is not only crazy, but being suggested at a time that is politically convenient for Senator John Kerry who is running for reelection to the Senate.

Sarah Palin Front/Center With Brian Williams, NBC Nightly News

This week, Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska sat down for a series of interviews with Brian Williams of NBC Nightly News. From the bits and pieces that I have seen so far of these interviews on the Internet, Williams was tough but fair to Palin. Other network anchors were not as pleasant with Gov. Palin and for his fairness in interview style, I would like to say thank you to Brian Williams.

The major mainstream news media which is based in New York City is notorious for being unfair to GOP candidates, especially ones that wear there conservative views on their sleeve. In recent weeks, Gov. Sarah Palin has been no exception to that rule as first Katie Couric and other NYC based print media torn into Gov. Palin as if she was some kind of rabid animal.

The sad truth is that every time a major NYC media elite tries to play down and dirty with a conservative Republican, they are the ones that come off looking petty and small. In recent months, NBC News and Brian Williams have been criticized by GOP extremist for their so called liberal reporting of this election. However, from what I have seen so far - Brian Williams and his team at NBC Nightly News did a fair job covering and interviewing Gov. Palin this week and if McCain/Palin lose in next months election, it won't be because NBC News did not give them a fair shake in last weeks Palin interviews.

30% Of Voters Could Cast Ballots Before Election Day, Early Voting

Sometime later today, my wife and I will visit a school close to where we live and cast our ballots in the next election. Of course, most of the national attention is focused on the Obama/McCain race, but there will be dozens of other races to vote on, as well. In 2006, we decided to vote early and that experience made believers out of us that going to the polls on the weekend, made much more sense than standing in line during our lunch hour on an election day Tuesday.

The latest reports coming out of all the states that allow early voting are that as many as 30% of the total votes that will be cast during this election cycle will be cast days and sometimes weeks before election day. Personally, I believe early voting is an idea who's time has come for people like my wife and I that work five days per week. However, there are political partisans that do not like the idea of early voting because it makes their job of throwing last minute dirt at their opponent less effective.

When it comes to the presidential race between Obama and McCain, anyone that has not made up their mind yet on who they are going to vote for has some kind of sever mental disability in the area of decision making or they would not still be undecided. In fact, I have grown tired of how the major media seems to make hero's out of undecided voters this late in a campaign. In my view, these last minute undecided voters should be looked at with tremendous suspicion and their words should be highly discounted because of their lack of understanding of what is really at stake in this and all American presidential elections.

Chicago Leads Nation In Murders, Jennifer Hudson's Mom/Brother The Latest

It was heartbreaking news last night when we all learned that former American Idol singer and movie star 'Jennifer Hudson's' mother and brother had been murdered in Chicago on Friday. While no one is in custody for these murders as of my writing of this post, the murder of Jennifer Hudson's mother and brother brings nationwide headlines to a local Chicago story that is all to real for residents that live there.

Chicago is the third largest city in the United States, but the number of murders in Chicago so far this year has exceed both New York City and Los Angeles which have larger populations. With the murders of Jennifer Hudson's mother and brother yesterday, the number of people killed through homicide in Chicago has climbed very close to 500 people in 2008.

I believe that part of the problems in Chicago are based around recent reports of bad behavior by Chicago police officers, many of which were caught on tape and shown on local television. While many of these Chicago police officers were clearly out of line with their conduct, the powers that be in Chicago used a knee jerk reaction in dealing with all police officers which set back their law enforcement efforts by years. My thoughts and prayers are with Jennifer Hudson in her time of grief this weekend as two very important people in her life were snuffed out in the murder capital of the United States, Chicago - yesterday.

Friday Sell Off On Wall Street As Recession Fears Turn Into Reality

Only the few people that like to ride roller coasters on a daily basis are left on Wall Street to trade stocks anymore. Once again today, stocks around the world headed lower as recession fears are turning into reality for millions of people. While no one really wants to hear this, the truth is that a recession has been long overdue as all of us have lived a pretty easy life compared to the one our parents and grandparents had several decades ago.

For a long time, easy credit made life in America a breeze because with it there was no need to save for the things we really wanted because everyone that had something to sell - also had an easy credit program to help us buy it without the need to save. High ticket items like cars and homes were no exception as easy credit made it possible to buy both with little to no money down in recent years. The fuel that powered the US economy was easy credit and as long as it was available for all to use, everything hummed along at a good pace.

People that have lived a long life understand all to well that times on 'easy street' do not last forever and the longer the period of time a great nation like the United States rides on 'easy street' the harder the recession that follows will be on everyone. Along with corruption on Wall Street, the days when 'easy credit' fueled the US economy may be drawing to an end. While that news will not sit well with 20 somethings that have never saved money, in reality a tightening of credit must occur before the worldwide economy can stop falling and start to move forward once again.

Polls Try To Create 'Herd Mentality' Days Before Presidential Election

While most Americans would be repulsed by the idea that both major political party's are treating them like a bunch of cattle that gather together in search of food and companionship, in reality that is exactly what is happening in the last few days of the 2008 presidential campaign. As polls range anywhere from a McCain/Obama tie to other national polls that show Obama 10 points or more ahead - all political partisans are trying to create a 'herd mentality' going into next month's presidential election.

You might ask yourself why both Obama and McCain would want to create a 'herd mentality' and the answer, in reality, is simple if not insulting in so many ways to most people. Human beings have always been more inclined to follow the crowd than to take off on their own and be leaders. Politicians that understand all to well what make each of us tick, know that if most people are going with Obama on election day - that means that others will follow and the same can be said for John McCain in the later days of this hard fought presidential election campaign.

The reason why politicians use the 'herd mentality' approach to get votes is the same reason why 20% of the people in this world control 80% of the wealth. Approaching life as just another member of the herd might make some people feel good about themselves, but at the same time it leaves them wide open to follow the wrong person at the wrong time - just because other people they know are heading in that direction. That is the reason so many public opinion polls are so far apart just days before the 2008 presidential election. Both McCain and Obama are trying to create a 'herd mentality' to assure success and only time will tell which one of them does the better job.

Were Cindy/George Anthony Paid By NBC For 'Today Show' Interview?

If it were not for rumors, there would be little to report when it comes to the disappearance of young Caylee Anthony and her dysfunctional mother and grandparents. Yesterday, Cindy and George Anthony appeared on the top rated network morning television show, 'NBC's Today Show' to talk about the case of their missing granddaughter and the murder charges that were recently filed against Cindy's daughter, Casey Anthony.

Not long after that interview of Cindy and George Anthony was seen by millions of Americans, nationwide - rumors started to circulate that they were paid for the interview on the 'Today Show'. It is NOT common practice for major broadcast networks to pay people in order to gain an interview and with that in mind, NBC quickly denied that they paid Cindy and George for sitting down for an interview on their program the 'Today Show'.

Now here is where the waters get very murky when it comes to what major television networks actually do and what they say that they do. In reality, money was paid by NBC to Cindy and George Anthony in the form of a royalty for being allowed to show the photographs they used during yesterday's interview of Caylee and the rest of the Anthony family. So the real question is, were Cindy and George Anthony paid for their interview with NBC's 'Today Show' or not? In my opinion they were paid by NBC in an underhanded way, just like Fox News tried to pay OJ Simpson for an interview many months ago. It is almost impossible to tell the different between NBC, Fox News and the National Enquirer - anymore.

Early Voting Draws Huge Crowds Here In Texas/Nationwide

This afternoon I was hungry so I ventured out of the office to get some good old fashion 'fast food' to get me through the rest of the day. On my way to the restaurant, I passed by one of the new 'early voting locations' here in Texas. I was amazed at how many people were already showing up to vote at this one early voting location. There must have been one hundred cars or more in the parking lot of this unassuming school building that goes unnoticed when an election is not drawing near.

Texas is considered a very 'red state' and almost everyone believe that Senator John McCain will win the State of Texas when all the votes are counted. However, Senator Barack Obama has created a bunch of excitement even here in old fashion conservative Texas and right now I would not bet any money that the same old kind of election happens here in Texas or any other state for that matter. Even our incumbent Senator, John Cornyn, is being chased by a democratic candidate that few people have even heard of.

My wife and I have decided to vote early as well. On Saturday, we plan on visiting this same early voting location that I passed by today in Waco. For working people, having election day on a Tuesday is always inconvenient and if a person has the chance to vote for their favorite candidate on the weekend, they should take advantage of that opportunity. While some 'old-timers' don't like early voting, for most folks it is just what the doctor ordered to get more people to show up and do their patriotic duty.

First Presidential Transition Since September 2001 Terrorist Attacks

While it is still uncertain which candidate will be the next President of the United States, there is one fact that is not escaping the powers that be at the Department of Homeland Security in Washington D.C. and that reality is that whoever is elected as the next President, their transition to power will be very much different than previous presidential changes.

The concern is that terrorist will try to attack the United States of America during the two months between election day and when the next President takes the oath in late January 2009. In the past, it took six months to a year for a new President to get all of his Cabinet Members approved by Congress and prepared to lead their various departments of government. In 2009, all government officials are going to change the way they have done business in the past so the next President will be able to take charge of the government on day one of his new administration.

So much has changed since September 2001 and for me it is hard to believe that it has been almost eight years since that terrible day happened in our nations history. I believe it is a wise and prudent action for members of the Bush administration to be working hard to make sure that whichever candidate wins next month is ready to go on day one and also in the best position possible to defend this great nations from harm.

$163 Million In Federal Rebates Still Not Cashed

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced today that there are $163 million in federal rebate checks that were issues at the beginning of last summer that have yet to be cashed. That amazing amount of money could be shared by more than 279,000 people around the country. Many of these rebate checks were returned to the IRS because of an address problem, but many others were delivered properly and as of yet the owner of that money has not cashed the check.

It is hard for me to believe that anyone would be sitting around their house with a check for $600 that they have not cashed. However, it is not uncommon for some people to not cash checks and leave them laying around for months, if not years. A friend told me once that he knew a famous author that used huge checks that were sent to him by his publisher as bookmarks instead of cashing them. Apparently, the guy didn't need the money because he was already rich.

In today's hard economic times, it is impossible for me to believe that there are over 250,000 Americans that are so well off financially that they do not need their $600 federal rebate check for something. Already, Congress is talking about sending out more free money early next year to try to stimulate the economy again. I wonder if these same folks will fail to cash their rebate check the next time, too?

Greenspan Talks To Congress About Mortgage/Credit Crisis

Not that long ago, when Alan Greenspan was the Chairman of the Federal Reserve - when he started talking to Congress about the US economy, the US stock market would go up and down based on the words he choose to use in a congressional hearing. Those days are now gone, because Greenspan is retired - but his thoughts and opinions still carry weight with many Members of Congress, so he was invited back to 'The Hill' today to testify.

In Alan Greenspan's opinion, there is a flaw in the way the free market system works. He said, that he use to believe that corporations could not get involved in overly risky behavior because they would be reluctant to put their stockholders money at risk. However, after reviewing the way many top financial companies participated in risky behavior during the run up to the current financial crisis - he has now changed that opinion.

While I agree with most of what Alan Greenspan said this morning, the reason there is a flaw in the free market system has everything to do with CEO's getting paid - even when they did not preform their duties properly. 'Golden Parachutes' enabled CEO's to conduct risky behavior in the the credit markets because they were protected from financial loss. These same 'Golden Parachutes' did not protect stockholders, but instead worked against their interest and that is the real reason why Alan Greenspan's formula for why this crisis could not happen contained a flaw which brought down the entire US financial system.

GOP Tries To Make Political Hay Out Of Obama's Sick Grandmother

In the past, some political elections became so jaded that even a sick grandmother of one of the candidates could be used to try and sure up the campaign of an opponent. The good news is that with Barack Obama's decision to visit his sick and probably dying grandmother in Hawaii over the next couple of days, most voters will view that action as a good thing and not just more of politics as usual in Washington.

It has been clear for well over a month now that John McCain's candidacy has been in trouble and even though some right wing talking heads like Rush Limbaugh and other right leaning pollsters are now trying to change the Obama momentum by putting out 'crazy lies' about him, in the end they are failing and most likely Barack Obama will be the next President of the United States. Most Americans will feel only love and compassion for Barack Obama when they learn that he decided to visit his sick and dying grandmother for a few days - right in the middle of a presidential campaign.

For most of us, we are more than ready for this presidential campaign to be over. For me, it seems like this presidential race has gone on for years, instead of in reality it has only lasted for one year. Within the next couple of weeks, we will all know if Barack Obama or John McCain will serve as President for the next four years and at that point all Americans can get about living their lives again without the day in and day out political games that both major party's play on us every four years.

Casey/Caylee Anthony Story Is Told To Millions In People Magazine

While at work a few days ago, I glanced across the room and noticed a female coworker reading a copy of People Magazine which had missing Caylee Anthony on the cover. Since I have been writing about this whole Anthony family mess for weeks now, I decided to watch the expressions of this lady as she read the details of the case.

Few smiles crossed her face as she read the story of missing Caylee Anthony and when she was finished and was on her way out for the day, I asked her what she thought about this strange but interesting case? She said, 'that Casey Anthony mother is a piece of trash'. For those of us that have been follow this case of missing Caylee Anthony and keeping up daily with the various stories and out right lies from her mother Casey - we have known that something has been terrible wrong in this family for a long time.

That said, millions of Americans are just now starting to learn about the facts in the case of missing Caylee Anthony through magazine articles like the one in People Magazine. As Casey Anthony's murder trial approaches, there will be more media attention payed to this case and I have no doubt that by the time Casey Anthony goes on trial for murder, there will be few Americans that will not have already formed an opinion about the guilt of this sociopath mother.

Yahoo Layoffs Effect Thousands As 2008 Holiday Nears

Yahoo announced on Tuesday that not only were their 2008 third quarter profit results going to be lower than expected, but also well over 1000 employees would be laid off within the next few weeks. While there is never a good time for an employee to be laid off, getting a 'pink slip' this close to the holiday season is one of the worst. For years, Yahoo has struggled to keep up with leader 'Google' in the search portal business and at almost every turn they have found themselves in second place.

The Internet story of Yahoo and Google is one where the new comer challenged and then defeated the seasoned leader. While there were negative ego consequences toward Yahoo as they watched the once 'up start' company of Google chip away at their dominance, in reality both of these search portal companies could survive and profit - if the need to be number one was not so ingrained in each of their company managements.

Even today, as Google swallows up most of the other search engine competition - there is still a huge marketplace out there for other search engines. For thousands of people that purchase advertising on both Google and Yahoo, many have told me that Yahoo ads convert better to buyers than do the same ads on Google. However, that amazing fact gets lost in the 'we're number one' hype that makes up Internet companies today. Not every company can be number one in their field and just because another company is number two, does not mean that they do not have many parts of their business that out preform the niche leader.

Pros/Cons Of Colin Powell's Endorsement Of Obama

One of the best known and trusted Americans today is a man by the name of Colin Powell. Retired General Powell became a household name during the first Gulf War and continued to advise the leaders of the United States up to and through the first President George W. Bush term in office. Right now, General Colin Powell is retired from public service, but his opinions about US politics are still something many Americans take into account before casting their vote for President of the United States.

On Sunday, Republican retired General Colin Powell decided to endorse Barack Obama for President in 2008. Being that Barack Obama is a Democrat and Colin Powell is a Republican, his endorsement was immediately praised by the Obama campaign as proof that he (Obama) would be a good leader, but General Powell's endorsement was soundly vilified by people that support McCain - many of whom referred to Colin Powell as a 'sell out' to the Republican Party.

There are pros and cons of General Powell's endorsement of Barack Obama. On the pros side, General Powell's wisdom is trusted by both Republicans and Democrats. On the cons side, Colin Powell has never really been trusted by conservative voters because of some of his moderate stands on issues like the Iraq War. With Colin Powell now out front in endorsing Obama, the lack of experience argument that John McCain has been making at campaign stops will start to ring hollow to some middle of the road, moderate, voters.

Will Obama Buy The Election In The Final Days?

The money advantage candidate Barack Obama has over John McCain in the 2008 race for the White House is overwhelming. While Obama is buying national television time on almost every prime-time television show and NFL football games, hardly any ads for the McCain campaign are being seen outside the few swing states he still has a chance of winning. Will Obama buy the election next month?

When all the speeches and dirty political attack are finished, in the end the candidate that has raised and spent the most money usually wins the White House. In the recent past, GOP candidates have been money raising machines as they have out spent the democrats. However, Barack Obama has changed the rules forever with his decision to not seek public financing of his campaign and instead he has set about raising more money than any other candidate in the history of US politics.

In 2008, the GOP is in a sad state of affairs. Not only are Republicans predicted to lose the White House, but big gains are also predicted for Democrats in the US House and US Senate. While both major political party's are good at handing out talking points approved by their leaders, one fact has risen higher than any talking point of either party. With the exception of actual votes on election day, it is easy to see which way Americans are leaning ahead of time by looking at which candidate has raised the most money. Using money as a gauge it is clear that Obama is a much more popular candidate than McCain.
