Future Of Rush Limbaugh

It is very easy for most people to take 'pot shots' at radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh right now because even though he has preached daily about the evils of liberalism, the American people have voted in one of the most liberal governments in modern day history. However, while Rush Limbaugh might be down in public opinion polls - when it comes to a radio audience, his ratings have never been higher.

Most of the people that listen to Rush Limbaugh on a daily bases are pure conservatives that believe in the strict interpretation of principles that have been around for generations. Radio host Rush Limbaugh also believes in strict conservative values, so he and his audience of millions feel right at home with each other. To some it might seem that there are not many conservatives around anymore, but that is simply not true.

There are just as many pure conservatives today than before President Obama was elected President. The real problem for the GOP is that there are not enough pure conservatives alone to win national elections, so their future prospects of becoming a national leadership party in the near future are bleak. To win, both Republicans and Democrats need a big tent policy - which the GOP does not have right now.

Swine Flu, Take A Deep Breath

Within the past few days, I have noticed that people all around the world and many governments as well seem to be causing a great deal of panic in regards to Swine Flu. In nations like Egypt, thousands of pigs are being slaughtered because of fear over Swine Flu - when it has been proven that pigs have nothing to do with the spread of this disease. However, in recent days I have noticed that some people in the US news media seem to be helping along a panic of our own and they should be ashamed of themselves.

I addition to the US news media, some government officials have also help the public panic over Swine Flu by the choices they make. In Fort Worth, Texas - the Superintendent of Schools canceled all classes for one week because one student in the whole district tested positive for Swine Flu. In my opinion, that act by the Fort Worth school superintendent was a gross overreaction and helped to further the panic of Swine Flu in the United States.

The real information people need to know about the Swine Flu is that it is treatable and most people that get this disease in the United States will not die. Instead, most folks need to focus on hygiene issues like keeping their hands clean and staying away from sick people whenever possible. Also, people that are sick should not go to work or school, but instead they should get tested to see if they are indeed infected with this new strain of Swine Flu so they can be treated.

Obama Up / GOP Down

After 100 days as the new President of the United States, public opinion polls are saying that most Americans are happy with the job President Obama is doing. However, when it comes to the GOP, their political fortunes or lack there of are at historic low levels. There is just a lack of moderate leadership in the GOP and that vacuum has caused the entire party to veer off the reservation and head to a nowhere land where the only opinions welcome are those of an extremist conservative nature.

While radio talk show hosts like Rush Limbaugh helped to build the GOP into a nationwide political powerhouse, right now - Limbaugh and others that follow his lead are leading the GOP into the wilderness of failure. The late President Ronald Reagan knew how to build a big tent party, but current GOP leaders are totally focused on extremist right wing issues - which will make the GOP even a smaller party in the future.

I'm old enough to remember when extremist left wingers in the Democratic Party caused their political fortunes to fade three decades ago. Today, while watching Rush Limbaugh and other conservative leaders do the same thing to the GOP - it is like watching history repeat itself, but in reverse this time. The next 20 or 30 years could be tough for the GOP, but the party will survive and when it comes back into national play again - it will be transformed into a more moderate and friendly political party to all.

Hot Weather Caused By Climate Change?

There are crazy wackos and then there is real science. Sometimes it's hard to tell the two apart when it comes to the discussion of Climate Change caused by Global Warming. Already the spring of 2009 has been warmer than normal in the northeastern US, so some wackos are running around blaming that hot weather on Climate Change.

The truth is that while Climate Change is real, most people are not going to notice anything because the differences between what is normal in planetary temperatures and what is not is only a matter of a couple of degrees, year round. The nuts that are preaching that Climate Change will be the death of us all are the same people that try to draw incorrect conclusions about how really hot spring weather in the northeast is tied to Climate Change.

Like with so many other issues, the wackos on both the far left and the far right are doing their best to keep the public confused about the issue of Climate Change, while the grown ups in the room are being ignored. Climate Change is an important issue, but we must all guard against being drawn into a purely partisan fight between extremist and stay focused on the real deal.

George Strait Opens New Cowboys' Stadium

In the old days when an NFL team opened a new football stadium, the first event that was held there was a football game. However, when it comes to the new NFL stadium that the Dallas Cowboys will call home in Arlington Texas opens, it won't be a football game that thousands of people will be showing up to see, but instead it will be a concert featuring country music legend George Strait.

George Strait is scheduled to open the new 80,000 seat Dallas Cowboys' stadium in Arlington Texas during the first part of June 2009. The first Dallas Cowboys football game to be played there will not happen until the end of September when the Dallas Cowboys' play the New York Giants on NFL Sunday Night Football.

Almost all Dallas Cowboys fans are excited about the opening of the new state of the art Cowboys' stadium in Arlington Texas later this year. While most of us are happy to see our favorite NFL team, the Dallas Cowboys' with a new home, there is still bad blood with many people who were not treated fairly when the City of Arlington Texas took their land and pretty much gave it to Jerry Jones for penny's on the dollar

Media Driven Swine Flu Panic

The past two days, I have started to feel like the major US news media is trying to create a panic among the American people about a new strain of Swine Flu that first appeared in Mexico. Of course, everyone is concerned because hundreds of people have already died in Mexico from this new strain of Swine Flu. However, the only death reported in the US so far is attributed to a person that was brought to Houston, from Mexico, to seek treatment.

World history is filled with terrifying stories about flu pandemics that seemed to appear out of nowhere and before they were finished killing people, tens of millions were dead. Right now, this new strain of Swine Flu from Mexico is not even on the radar of what this world has been through before with pandemics and hopefully ratings dominated television news networks will quit trying to turn this new Swine Flu strain into the latest panic story of the week.

What people really need are the facts about what this new form of Mexico Swine Flu is all about, how it is transmitted between people and most importantly what people can do to lower the changes of them catching this new form of Swine Flu. The last thing the people of the United States need is another news media driven panic story, which will help no one - but the executives that sell advertisements at the major television networks.

Simon Cowell /Susan Boyle Contract

When all the songs are sung and all the votes are counted on "Britain's Got Talent", in the end the only thing that really matters for Susan Boyle is winning a recording contract with Simon Cowell's company. Reality TV shows are, at best, a flash in the pan where people become household names one minute and are quickly forgotten the next.

Right now another famous singer from Britain's Got Talent, Paul Potts, would have already been forgotten by the general public if he had not received a record contract from Simon Cowell. That same fate awaits Susan Boyle, even if she eventually wins Britain's Got Talent and does not get offered a recording contract. For contestants on reality TV music shows, the real payday comes when they win a major recording contract with Simon Cowell.

I am already concerned that the major news media around the world is causing a 'burn out' factor when it comes to Susan Boyle. In sports there is a term called "peaking too soon" and that same term applies to the music business as well. Hopefully, Susan Boyle does not get over exposed to the public - because she has an excellent chance of winning on the show and also in obtaining a recording contract from judge Simon Cowell.

NYC Air Force One Scare

For the most part, I believe the first 100 days of the President Barack Obama administration has been pretty good. However, on the 99th day of this new President - there was a bone headed move that defied logic and plain old fashion common sense.

The event I am referring to is the military flyover of Air Force One in NYC without letting the public know what was going on. The flight, which was scheduled to take pictures for the White House website cost taxpayers almost $400,000 and in the process sent hundreds of terrified people fleeing from office building in NYC because some people thought 9/11 was happening all over again.

Needless to say, President Obama did not approve of this mission nor did he even know about it until after it had happened. However, from reports inside the White House - President Obama was mad as hell that this flight took place and I look for heads to roll soon because of this bone headed publicity stunt.

New Wall Street 2 Movie Talk

Greed is good was a line from the first Wall Street movie that was released two decades ago. However, Oliver Stone is now preparing to do another movie about the greed on Wall Street and he is teaming up with his former lead actor Michael Douglas to bring this story back to movie theaters around the world.

I really enjoyed the first Wall Street movie and more than likely "Wall Street 2" will be a great movie as well. Sure, millions of people have lost billions of dollars on Wall Street the past six months - but that does not mean that people won't still line up to see an exciting movie on the silver screen about rich fat cats and the corruption they wage on the rest of us.

People either love or hate Oliver Stone. I am one of those few people that look at some of his work and shake my head in disbelief at how bad it was, while smiling at the next movie that he puts out - which makes me really think about the world around me. I do know this, Oliver Stone got the chemistry right in the first Wall Street movie and my guess is that he will get it right when Wall Street 2 is released.

Up/Down Gold Prices

It takes a person with a strong stomach to invest in the modern day Gold market because daily prices of this precious metal can vary wildly. Over the past 30 days or so, the price of Gold on a daily basis has gone from highs of over $1000 per ounce to a price below $900 per ounce today.

Of course, stock market investors will be quick to inform me that the Dow Jones Industrial Average has been all over the map too for the past six months. However, unlike the stock market - the Gold market is easier to predict based on an investors financial belief system.

Put simply, if the US economy is in the tank and continue to drop - then it's time to buy and hold Gold. However, at the first sign of economic improvement - smart Gold investors sell quickly and never look back. Right now, most Gold investors are not sure about which way the economy will move next and that is why the Gold market today is so volatile.

Susan Boyle, Burn Out?

Could it be that the worldwide news media has gone overboard in their coverage of Susan Boyle? At first I did not think so, but as reporters continue to show up to interview and follow her around, I am now starting to wonder.

Too much of even a good thing, eventually, turns out to go bad. While I have enjoyed listening to Susan Boyle sing on YouTube dozens of times, quite frankly - I am beginning to get tired of every entertainment news show on television following her around like the latest piece tabloid gossip.

Please understand that I don't want to take anything away from Susan Boyle or her amazing singing voice. However, throughout my entire life I have seen the news media over cover stories to the point where most people just want that story to go away. At this point in time, the amazing story of Susan Boyle is quickly reaching a 'burn out' point and I for one wishes she would just stay in her house until the next audition.

Conservatives Won't Cross Limbaugh

Even if they wanted to, no true conservative politician in America can afford to cross radio talk show host and top US conservative commentator Rush Limbaugh right now. For all practical purposes - the GOP should rename itself the conservative party, which more closely resembles the things they believe in and fight for in 2009.

Most Republicans and Limbaugh regularly reflect back on what they believe to have been the 'good old days' when Ronald Reagan was the President of the United States. Of course, most of the modern day Republicans that call themselves conservatives would have been viewed by a great man and leader like Ronald Reagan as nothing more than extremist nuts.

I believe Ronald Regan was a good man that believed in conservative principles. However, there is a big difference between what President Reagan said when he was running for office and the manner in which he governed this great land. Today's GOP has moved from the center right to an extremist right wing agenda and I for one do not believe that if he were still alive, President Reagan would want to have anything to do with the current leadership structure of the Republican Party or the extremist right wing agenda of Rush Limbaugh.

Urban/Kidman Expecting Again?

Photographers were out early this morning (Sunday) and caught several shots of Keith Urban and wife Nicole Kidman visiting a Starbucks in Nashville, Tennessee. While it must be tough to put up with photo hounds following you around all the time, both Urban and Kidman seem to have more privacy in Nashville than the LA photographers would give them if they lived in Hollywood.

There was a little rumor that came out of today's visit to a Nashville Starbucks by Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban. Some people that have followed Urban and Kidman now for a long time were speculating as to why Nicole Kidman held a newspaper over her tummy during her walk from the Starbucks back to her car.

Of course, the rumors and speculation revolve around whether or not Nicole Kidman is pregnant again. I looked at those photos tonight on the Internet and from my point of view, Nicole Kidman was just carrying her Sunday newspaper in the same way as I have seen hundreds of other people carry a heavy Sunday newspaper before. If Nicole is pregnant great and if not that's great too.

Paul Potts Prepares For Duet With Susan Boyle

It's been a long time since dozens of nations all over the world have waiting patiently for a world class duet from two up and coming stars, but the good new is that our wait will soon be over because the 2007 "Britain's Got Talent" winner Paul Potts has signaled his eagerness to record a duet with the latest singing sensation from the UK, Susan Boyle.

For the past couple of weeks, it has been hard to find an entertainment TV show in the US that does not feature a daily update about Susan Boyle. Two years ago, that same kind of excitement followed Paul Potts. However, Paul Potts did not gain worldwide attention until after he won "Britain's Got Talent". Today however, Susan Boyle is front page news around the world only after competing on the show one time.

It's hard to image that someone else would be in a strong position to defeat Susan Boyle on the 2009 edition of "Britain's Got Talent", but I would not bet against it. In any event, win or lose - Susan Boyle will be a huge star soon, just like Paul Potts has become in nations all over the world.

Carrie Underwood, "I Told You So"

Back in my younger days, I was a disk jockey in country radio. In those days, use to enjoy playing what are now considered the classics of country music back when they were brand new.

One of my favorite songs, during those days decades ago, was one called "I Told You So", which was preformed by Randy Travis. In recent weeks, Carrie Underwood has remade that country music classic and from this old DJ's point of view - she has done a fantastic job of preforming that song for a new generation and doing so from a female singers prospective.

It's no secret that Carrie Underwood looks up to Randy Travis as one of her hero's and role models in country music. I believe that is why she did a duet of "I Told You So" with Randy Travis on television recently. As most of you already know, I believe Carrie Underwood is the best female singer in country music today.

Congress/FDIC Cracking Down On Banks

Banks both large and small are getting a wake up call from the US Congress and the FDIC in regards to how they loan money. It's sad that it took at major meltdown in US financial system and the election of a new President to bring banks back around to bedrock lending principles, but it is good to see that someone, somewhere, is finally trying to hold reckless banks to account.

The same problems faced by US banks in 2009 happened before in the late 1970's in the bad old days of Savings and Loans. During the early part of the 1980's many people went to jail, while huge financial institution went belly up because of sorry management and outright fraud by S&L officials.

Now the US taxpayers are being forced to clean up another mess simply because the federal government, once again, was not doing it's job of regulating the US financial system. The S&L mess of the late 1970's and early 1980's was cleaned up by a GOP President (Ronald Reagan), but this time it is a Democratic President (Barack Obama) that is being forced to clean up the banking mess of 2008/2009, which happened during the watch of President George W. Bush.

Potassium Retention Hard For Some

For years I found myself suffering from severe muscle pain late in the day. At first, I thought these aches and pains were just part of getting older. However, not that long ago I discovered that for some reason my body does not hold onto potassium that well.

Like most people, my diet seemed to contain enough potassium for there never to be a shortage of this important mineral in my blood stream, but for some reason I was either not absorbing the potassium I was taking in well enough, or I was losing too much of it through excess sweating or urination.

Over time, I have realized that in order to feel well and normal I need to add extra potassium to my diet each day. The good thing it's easy to do because some of my favorite foods, orange juice/baked potato/milk are all high in potassium. I still don't know why I need more potassium than the average person, but this lack of potassium problem is quickly and easily solved by eating more foods that are filled with it.

Good Friend Dies Of Cancer

Late last night, my wife and I got the call we had been dreading for weeks now. A good friend who also was a relative by marriage died of lung cancer, which had spread to his brain. Our friend was an older guy, but that did not stop him from being one of my best friends during his life.

When we got the call last night that he had died, my wife and I were both extremely sad as our minds went back in time to when first her father died of prostate cancer and then many years later my own father died of pancreatic cancer. My family and hers have seen more than our fair share of suffering from the dreaded cancer disease.

The only thing positive that came out of the death of my friend last night and the death of my own father back in 2001 is the caring and helpful hand of an organization called hospice. Hundreds of thousands of times per day, this little thought of organization goes about the business of helping the sick not to suffer in their last days of life, while at the same time providing comfort to the families who are left behind.

Offshore Drilling Dead Under Obama

It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out that in his heart of hearts, President Barack Obama is not in favor of offshore oil drilling. When he was running for President last summer, he reluctantly decided to favor it when gas prices were very high - but right now the issue of offshore oil drilling hardly ever comes out of his mouth.

Almost everything that President Obama does talk about when it comes to energy revolves around changing America's energy plans from fossil based fuels to other alternative energy sources that are considered more green. It would not be a big surprise to me if President Obama 'flip-flopped' once again on offshore oil drilling now that the price of gas is half of what it was last summer.

In the summer of 2008, all Americans were angry at the almost daily increases in the price of gasoline. However, since the US fell into recession late last year - most people have changed their focus from issues like offshore oil drilling, while more important things like jobs and retirement security have moved to the top of this nations priority list.

Mexico Swine Flu Scary/Deadly

The past few days, millions of people around the world have grown concerned about a new strain of Swine Flu that has already killed dozens of people in Mexico. We have all heard the word pandemic, but few people understand how a new type of flu virus works or how it could potentially kill tens of millions of people if not dealt with in a serious way.

The difference between a new form of flu, like the one that is killing people in Mexico right now and the average run of the mill type we all get from time to time is like the difference between night and day. This new forum of Swine Flu that is killing people in Mexico is so deadly because the human immune system has never had to fight it before, so a person becomes overwhelmed by this new virus in a short period of time.

The Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta Georgia is very concerned about this new strain of Swine Flu that is currently ravaging Mexico and unfortunately there have already been a few cases of this new type of Swine Flu that have been detected in the United States. While this new strain of flu is still a long way from being a pandemic, no one in the health care business is taking this new type of Swine Flu for granted.

Are ARM Mortgages Dead?

When I look back on the mortgage crisis of 2008, the first thing that comes to mind for me as a bad thing are Adjustable Rate Mortgages (ARM). While ARM mortgage loans serve a good purpose, some 'fly by night' mortgage brokers used them to trap honest Americans into a big payday for themselves, while the companies that stood behind those kinds of loans went out of business.

Right now, it appears to me that the President Barack Obama administration is trying to make the issue of getting a mortgage loan more transparent and that means that most future mortgage loans will be of a fixed nature. However, will the Adjustable Rate Mortgage (ARM) really go away for good? I'm not sure.

Like so many other "good things", ARM's have been misunderstood by people for years. I really believe that Adjustable Rate Mortgages will become a thing of the past because of the corrupt practices of mortgage brokers that spent most of their time looking for victims, instead of trying to match the right family up with the right type of mortgage loan.

Green Is Good, Denial Is Bad

For most of my life, I have been a follower of the anti-green movement, because I did not want to believe that this planet could be effected by the carbon pollution we have spread around everywhere for decades. However, over the past few years - I have begun to see why so many millions of people around the world are concerned with Climate Change aka. Global Warming and I now too agree that we need to start cleaning up this planet that we call home.

Like with so many other important issues, the reality of Climate Change seemed to once be a work of fiction to me - which was being made up by left wing environmental extremist. People on the conservative side of politics grouped in Climate Change and Global Warming with some kind of left wing extremism agenda, rather than looking at and listening to the science behind what was really going on all around us.

For decades, people like Rush Limbaugh have turned the issue of Global Warming caused by Climate Change into a right v. left choice. However, I now believe that politics has nothing to do with this problem - except in the amount of disinformation that is put out by far right wing extremist like Rush Limbaugh. I now believe that all of us should start using new forms of green energy like Windmill Electric Power, if for no other reason than to limit our dependence on foreign sources of crude oil.

From Hero To Villain, President Obama

Right now, President Barack Obama is riding high in public opinion polls. However, if his one trillion dollars plus of government spending does not turn the US economy around - then he could quickly go from a hero to a villain in no time flat.

Some conservatives like Rush Limbaugh have gone on the record and stated that they hope President Obama fails. In reality, Mr. Limbaugh marginalized himself even more than before when he suggested that he was looking forward to President Obama failing during his first term as the new President of the United States.

While right now President Obama looks like the hero and Rush Limbaugh appears to be the villain - in the United States, public opinion does have a history of turning on a dime if economic improvements don't occur in a short period of time. Sadly for President Obama, he has about one year to turn the US economy around or millions of people will start following Rush Limbaugh and wanting a change in leadership once again in this country.

Every Married Man Should See "Obsessed"

Every generation has a movie where a married man strays into the arms of another woman, who eventually goes nuts and decides to kill his wife so she can have him all for herself. Twelve years ago (in 1987), Michael Douglas and Glenn Close brought this storyline to life in a movie called "Fatal Attraction".

Now in 2009, the pretty much same script of "Fatal Attraction" is being told once again in a new movie called "Obsessed" This new movie "Obsessed" stars Idris Elba and Beyoncé Knowles who play the two women who end up fighting over the same man. In "Obsessed", Elba is the mistress - while Knowles plays the wife.

I still remember hearing from women everywhere back in 1987, who told me that all married men should be forced to watch "Fatal Attraction". If my guess is right, millions of new men are going to hear the same thing about a new movie called "Obsessed" from female friends and significant others who want to show men how unpredictable and violent some women can be.

Pros/Cons Of Capitalism

Capitalism is a word that is looked upon by most people in the United States as a good thing. However, there are pros and cons to even positive words and in this blog post I will address some of those issues.

On the pros side, capitalism is the main reason why the standard of living in the US is higher than in most nations of the world. The biggest pro to capitalism is in it's ability to give anyone a chance to financial succeed, no matter where they come from in their heritage.

On the cons side, capitalism is not known for it's compassion toward people that cannot or will not keep up with fast changing times. The biggest con of capitalism is that many people get left behind and they would fall through the cracks of life without government assistance. I believe a good mix of capitalism and socialism works best.

Will YouTube Ever Turn A Profit?

One of my favorite places to visit on the Internet is YouTube. From my point of view, the Google owned YouTube service has changed the way people view entertainment programming and the news of the day.

While millions of people all over the world turn to YouTube each day for the latest videos, the little dirty secret about YouTube is that the service itself has always been a money loser. Even when Google bought YouTube years ago, the previous owner could not make a profit running it either.

During good times, it is easy for a highly profitable company like Google to just soak up the good will of millions of people that just love YouTube. However, the world and big businesses like Google are suffering through more lean times right now - so my question is, how long will Google continue to operate the money losing service called YouTube?

Lawsuits Everywhere In Madoff Scandal

In a situation tailor made for trial lawyers, the Bernard Madoff scandal is the gift that just keeps on giving to hundreds of lawyers across the country. In the wide scheme of things, few people in the world rise to the level of financial evil that Mr. Madoff perpetrated on thousands of investors around the world.

From the former head of the NASDAQ stock market to a defendant in a federal trial that could land him in jail for the rest of his life, Bernard Madoff took Wall Street criminal activity to a level not seen since the 1980's.

Well known and financially responsible people from all over the world fell for Mr. Madoff's ponzi scheme because he had a place at the table where the rules of Wall Street were being written for everyone else. However, at the end of the day, Bernard Madoff turned out to be no better than some 'three card Monte' character on the streets of New York trying to earn enough money for a hot meal at the end of the day.

Torture Issue Sticky For Obama

No matter how hard the President Barack Obama administration tries to keep his predecessor President George W. Bush out of the line-of-fire when it comes to torture in the weeks, months and years after 911, Members of Congress seem to be out for blood and they what someone to pay for George W. Bush's choices after 911.

While it might make members of the extreme left angry that President Barck Obama wants to give former President George W. Bush and Vice-President Dick Cheney a pass when it comes to responsibility in regards to the US torture of captives after the terrorist attacks on 911, the current President Barack Obama is trying to look out for the long term interest of this country and he is right.

The United States we are living in today is much different than it was back on September 12, 2001. It is not that hard to image a President Obama being left with the same hard choices as President Bush was left with back then and in his heart I'm sure President Obama knows that when it comes to protecting this country, a President must use anything and everything at his disposal to keep this country safe for another terrorist attack.

$2 Per Gallon Gas Prices

Today, as I was filling up my car with gas - I overheard a person at the pump next to me complaining that the price of gas had risen to $2 per gallon. When I heard that, I just smiled and asked myself what that person much have thought this time last year as gas prices neared $4 per gallon nationwide?

A lot has changed since the summer of 2008 and one of the few positive changes is a lower price per gallon of gas this summer compared to last year. While listening to this person complain out loud, it reminded me of a fact of nature and that fact states that some people are never going to be happy, even under the best of circumstances.

From my point of view, $2 per gallon is not a high gas price by any stretch of the imagination. This time last year, some people were predicting that right now the price of gas would be at $6 per gallon. I am so thankful that they were wrong with that prediction.

KRLD-FM New Dallas Cowboys Flagship

Dallas Cowboys owner, Jerry Jones announced today a ten year deal with a new radio station in the DFW Metroplex - which will make them the flagship radio station for Dallas Cowboys' football games. KRLD-FM at 105.3 on the FM dial will be the new flagship radio station for the Dallas Cowboys radio network.

In what was a surprise to most observers, Jerry Jones entered into a ten year deal with KRLD-FM management - which is the longest broadcast agreement Cowboys' owner Jerry Jones has ever entered into with any network either local or national.

In September, Dallas Cowboys football games will move to a new stadium in Arlington, Texas. The first game the Cowboys will play in that new stadium will be against the New York Giants and it will take place on nationwide prime-time television on a Sunday night.

Maturity Needed In Financial Reporting

Tonight before supper, I sat down to watch the NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams. I have enjoyed watching him deliver the evening news for years now, but there is one aspect of reporting on his program that I do not like.

Part of tonight's evening news broadcast on NBC was a report about President Obama scolding the CEO's of major banks because they have been hiking the interest rates on the credit cards for people that pay their bill on time. Brian's report on that issue was great, but where I have a problem is when he comes back to the studio and brings in a young person from CNBC to explain the issue to the audience.

I believe that NBC or for that matter any other network is making a big mistake when they put on a young and beautiful young woman to explain complicated financial issues. How does someone fresh out of college really understand what makes the US economy tick? People would trust an older person when it comes to financial issues more so than someone barely 25 years old.

Bush/Obama Different On Climate Change

There are few issues on the political landscape where former President Bush and new President Obama are further apart than on 'Climate Change'. For the most part, President George W. Bush does not believe that Climate Change is caused by man - while President Barack Obama does.

For the past eight years, US foreign policy has stayed away from issues of Global Warming in regards to Climate Change. However, ever since President Obama became the new leader of the United States - Climate Change issues have moved to the top of the nations priority list.

As I have said many times before, the is no doubt that the world is heating up - but I do not know for sure if that heating is natural or part of a man made problem. In any event, the new Obama administration will proceed with trying to reduce carbon from our atmosphere and in reality there is nothing wrong with cleaning up this planet.

Chrysler/GM To Declare Bankruptcy

As early as next week, Chrysler Motor Company is expected to declare bankruptcy with GM to soon follow around the middle of this summer. As a taxpayer, I look at the billions of dollars both of these companies received from the federal government over the past six months and become angry.

Without a doubt, long before President George W. Bush left office as our President - almost everyone the could add, knew that both GM and Chrysler could not be saved by a government bailout without the help of a bankruptcy court. However, first President Bush and then President Obama continue to throw our taxpayer money at these two companies and right now all of those billions of dollars are already spent.

Chrysler will most likely never survive even after a bankruptcy filing. However, I believe there is still hope for GM - if they can win concessions from the UAW through a bankruptcy judge. Soon the 'Big Three' will be the sort of big two in the automobile business and I hope that the federal government will stop wasting our tax money on companies that cannot survive without bankruptcy.

Wall Street Change Is Slow

Since the early 1980's, the rules on Wall Street have been very different than the ones most people play by in their daily lives. For most people, if they make a big mistake at their job - a pink slip is soon to follow.

On Wall Street however, rich and well educated Americans have followed their own set of rules for decades and no one in the federal government tried to stop them - except when their excesses became too outrageous. Now change is finally coming to Wall Street, but old hands on the street are not liking the news rules of the Obama administration.

For years, I have been writing about the terrible example CEO's on Wall Street were sending to Americans and people around the world with their 'Golden Parachutes'. Now that change is in the air, most leaders on Wall Street do not know how to act when they are now faced with the harsh reality that they must produce results or find themselves unemployed with nothing.

Gold Price Under $900 Per Ounce

Are the days of an ever increasing Gold price coming to an end? The past few weeks, the price of Gold has continued to move lower and it closed yesterday at $880 per ounce. Gold prices are closely tied to national economies around the world. When the economy improves, the price of Gold declines.

The price of an ounce of Gold has not been above $900 per ounce since the beginning of this month. $880 per ounce is considerably lower than when Gold started selling for over $1000 per ounce in February. Some experts are already beginning to start their doom and gloom talk about the future price of Gold and this time they might be right.

The only way that Gold can maintain it's current high price is if the worldwide economy continues to slide further into recession. Right now, I believe the US economy could take a turn for the better later this year and if my opinion turns out to be correction, then the price of an ounce of Gold would quickly fall back to below $500 per ounce within a matter of weeks.

Bank Bailout Fraud During Last Bush Days

It should come as no surprise to anyone that when President George W. Bush decided to bailout US banks and Wall Street at the end of his presidential term, fraud was soon to follow. Right now, there are several investigations going on in regards to fraud and the possible corruption of some bankers and Wall Street companies.

President Bush has been out of office for only a short period of time, but so far we have found out that he played fast and loose with the truth when it came to the War in Iraq and now we are learning that he also turned his head, while big Wall Street companies and huge American banks took the US taxpayer for a ride at the end of his watch as President.

Over the past couple of weeks, President George W. Bush backers, like Rush Limbaugh, have continued to ride to his administrations rescue - because they have nowhere else to go since they back the Bush presidency for eight long years even when President Bush was dead wrong in his ideas and policies. The sad fact for all of us is that the US could turn into a one party government over the next few elections cycles, as far right wing Republicans self destruct and if that does happen it will not be a good thing for the long term future of the United States.

Summer Increases The Need For Potassium

As summer weather starts to make temperatures rise across the country, the need for potassium goes up as well - because we all lose large amounts of this important mineral when we sweat. While some people that work outside most of the day will lose the most potassium in the summertime, all Americans will lose greater amounts of potassium during the long hot days of summer.

Many people falsely believe sports drinks will replenish lost potassium during the summer, but the most popular ones do not. Instead, most major sports drinks only contain small amounts of potassium, but they are loaded instead with sodium.

The best way to replenish your body with a fresh supply of potassium is to eat a large baked potato and wash it down with a full glass of 100% pure orange juice. Also remember to eat food that grow under the ground like carrots and peanuts as well. Most people know when they get low on potassium because they suffer from severe muscle pain.

Pancreatic Cancer Cure At Treatment Centers

I have written many times on this blog about the death of my father from pancreatic cancer in 2001. In so many ways, I still live with the memories of how much dad suffered before his death. Today, while visiting with my mother - we were thinking back to dads last few days and asking ourselves if the prognosis and treatment for pancreatic cancer has improved much over the past eight years?

In recent months, the news that Patrick Swayze and Steve Jobs also suffer from pancreatic cancer has made headlines. I often wonder if their last few days of life will be lived in the same painful way as my own father or will their eventual death be more humane?

My mother asked a simple question today that I did not know the answer to. She wondered out loud if the lady, who was cured of pancreatic cancer, that appeared for years on the "Cancer Treatment Centers of America" TV commercial is still alive? I would also like to know the answer to that question too and also find out more about why the "Cancer Treatment Centers of America" are able to cure pancreatic cancer when no one else seems to be successful.

Court Delays Alaska Offshore Oil Drilling

A federal appeals court put a temporary halt to new offshore oil drilling near the coast of Alaska today. The President George W. Bush administration auctioned offshore oil leases before President Barack Obama was elected and this new court ruling will halt new drilling from the companies that bought offshore oil leases until they can prove that their drilling will not harm the environment.

Unlike the President George W. Bush administration, President Obama is more closely aligned with environmentalist than he is with big oil companies. That said, I believe President Obama will not use his high office to help oil companies cut through the red tape of federal courts in the same way President Bush did.

So what's next for the companies that bought offshore oil leases in Alaska from the federal government? More than likely those offshore oil leasing contracts they own will be pretty much worthless until a more friendly President of the United States is elected or the price of gasoline increases to last summers levels again.

Health Care For Everyone By June?

Two US Senators, Max Baucus and Edward Kennedy, told the White House today that the Congress will be ready to vote on health care for everyone by June. No matter what Democrats in the Congress might think about Universal Health Care becoming law by June, most certainly there will be in a huge fight with GOP Members of Congress before any changes in the US health care system are enacted into law.

I believe that something major must be done to put a stop to runway increases in the cost of health care, which have lead to health insurance premiums too high for many people to afford. Just a short visit on a hospital ER these days can cost a patient or their insurance company several thousand dollars.

Back when Bill Clinton was President of the United States, the GOP was successful at preventing his version of Universal Health Care from becoming law. However, the American people of 2009 are much more moderate than they were back in the early 1990's and I expect some kind of Universal Health Care reform to be passed by the Congress and signed into law by President Obama later this year.

Banks Control Home Market Recovery

So far, hundreds of billions of US taxpayer dollars have been pumped into major banks across the US - but rather than all of that money helping to ease the home mortgage market, the problem has mainly remained unchanged. The main reason why the home mortgage market is still frozen up is because many major banks that got US taxpayer money, have refused to loan that money for new mortgages.

In one of the biggest mistakes ever made by government, Bush administration officials did not tie the major banks hands and force them to make new mortgage loans when they accepted federal taxpayer assistance. Instead, the federal government just gave the money to large banks and expected them to do the right thing.

Now, a new administration is trying to force major banks to use taxpayer money for the reason it was first given to them - but some banks are still refusing to aggressively start making home mortgage loans again. I don't think major US banks will get back into the mortgage loan business in a big way, unless the US federal government forces them to do so.

Depression Caused By Lack Of Spending

Conservatives have been rushing around for months claiming that the sky is falling because the federal government is spending so much money. However, if we are to learn from history - a lack of government spending lead to the "Great Depression" and all the negative consequence that took decades to repair.

Back in the late 1930's, the US government did little to stop the collapse of the US banking system and Wall Street. As a result the nation was plunged into a deep depression that took years to recover from. Now - many people on the political right, in the United States, want to repeat the mistakes made that lead up to the "Great Depression". However, thank goodness, President Obama is taking a different approach this time.

No one likes to see the US government go into even deeper debt, but if that spending keeps the country out of depression it will be money well spent. I don't know if President Obama's plan to rescue the US economy will work or not, but his plan certainly makes more sense than using the same plan that lead us to the "Great Depression" the first time.

Simon Cowell, Don't Change Susan Boyle

The world has fallen in love with a 47 year old singer, from the UK, by the name of Susan Boyle. So far, tens of millions of people have watched Susan Boyle sing on YouTube and that was just her first audition performance.

Now people are concerned that the world famous judge from "Britain's Got Talent" Simon Cowell will try to work his magic and change the way Susan Boyle looks. Even the two other judges on the show, Pierce and Amanda, said recently on the "Early Show" that they too were concerned that Simon Cowell would attempt to do a full body makeover of Susan Boyle.

To me, the biggest attribute that Susan Boyle possesses is her real life appearance and charm. If Simon Cowell or anyone else tries to change that, much of what we all love and respect about Susan Boyle will be destroyed.

Texas Panhandle Becomes Windmill Farm

I grew up in the Texas panhandle, so I know first hand how much the wind blows in that part of the country. While most residents in that area wear caps, it is very common to see men walking around with their hand on their cap to make sure it does not blow off.

All of that Texas panhandle wind also make it the perfect place to install electric windmills. A long time resident of the Amarillo area, T. Boon Pickens has already invested tens of millions of dollars in one of the worlds largest windmill farms just outside of Pampa, Texas.

Over the next few years, thousands of huge electric windmills will dot the Texas panhandle as Americans tap mother nature to meet our growing energy needs. When I was a kid, cotton/wheat farms were everywhere in the Texas panhandle. However, in the future - a different kind of farm might be more common in that area of the country.

Capitalism/Socialism Won't Work, Combination Will

The United States has been divided for so long between people that favor either capitalism or socialism, that many people cannot see that an equal combination of the two ideologies is the only real way for the US to succeed in the future. Both capitalism and socialism in their purest forms are the reason why the country is in such a big financial mess at this time.

I'm not sure when extremism took such a strong foothold in the US, but I believe that liberal socialism came first and after that - decades of pure capitalism lead by President's Reagan and then George W. Bush brought the US economy to the place we are today. While I use to be a capitalist, because of the teachings of former President Ronald Reagan, now I consider myself a moderate. It has become clear to me that capitalism without socialism nipping at it's feet leads many people and businesses toward out right greed and evil.

Hopefully, over the next two or three decades - a new generation of Americans will shun extremism in both of it's pure forms. The United States of America was formed as a union of states where moderate compromise was practiced. Hopefully, those days will return in the near future.

Judging A Book By It's Cover / Susan Boyle

We have all done it before, judged a book by it's cover and most of the time we have been wrong. Recently, the three judge panel from the UK television show "Britain's Got Talent" found themselves doing the same thing as a 47 year old lady by the name of Susan Boyle made them laugh as she told them she wanted to become a professional singer.

To be fair to the judges on "Britain's Got Talent", everyone in the audience of that show and millions of other people watching at home were also judgmental of Susan Boyle. From time to time, we all need a wake up call to get our priorities back in proper alignment and a wonderful singer by the name of Susan Boyle helped millions of people around the world do just that this week.

I personally believe that Susan Boyle will easily win the 2009 edition of "Britain's Got Talent" because she has the best voice I have heard in decades. Even if Susan Boyle does not win in the end, she has served the public well by teaching each of us to not judge a book by it's cover.

Twitter Goes Mainstream With Contest

One year year ago, hardly anyone had heard of a new online community with a funny name called "Twitter". However, now days it's hard to get through a 24 hour period of time without hearing that name over and over again.

A few weeks ago, actor Ashton Kutcher decided to create a challenge between himself and CNN to see which one would get to one million followers on Twitter first. Last night, Ashton won that competition as he went over the magic one million followers number.

It seem like all the cable television news networks are now using Twitter to stay in touch with their viewers and rumor has it that Oprah will soon join the competition with Kutcher and CNN, too. It is amazing how a little known Internet service can become an Internet phenomenon almost over night.

Keith Urban/Nicole Kidman, Real Deal?

A few years ago when Nicole Kidman decided to marry Keith Urban, at that time, I never thought the former wife of Tom Cruise would ever stay with any man for long. However, with hindsight - Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman seem to be a perfect match for each other as they split their time between homes in Nashville and Australia.

It's almost easier to win the lotto than to have a successful marriage in the entertainment business, but every now and then a couple breaks the mold and finds a way to live and love each other over the long haul. At this point in time, it appears that Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman have found that magic marriage formula for marital success and I wish them both well in the future.

A few weeks ago, I watched Keith Urban preform on the 2009 ACM awards - while his wife Nicole sat in the audience and seemed like the perfect mate for her husband. Of course, in the entertainment business - looks can be deceiving. However, there seems to be a good chemistry between Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban and I hope their relationship will stand the test of time.

Susan Boyle Reminds Me Of Paul Potts

Two summers ago, I was hot and tired one night - so I decided to watch a little news on the Internet before retiring for the night. That day, I first heard the name "Paul Potts" because he had just set the world on fire with his first audition performance on the UK reality TV show called "Britain's Got Talent". I remember that night well, because I must have watched Paul Potts sing his trademark song "Nessun Dorma", on YouTube, one hundred times before I could finally stop watching and listening to him sing.

Then a few days ago, that same UK television show introduced another person with an amazing singing voice by the name of Susan Boyle. Wow, right now I am wondering how many regular people in the United Kingdom are just sitting around with a regular job or unemployed like Susan Boyle - who have amazing singing voices, as well?

Here in the United States we have reality television shows too, but I can't remember a time when any American reality TV show found exceptional singing talents like Paul Potts or Susan Boyle in the short period of three years. While Paul Potts and Susan Boyle are destined for great things in the future, the producers of "Britain's Got Talent" are doing pretty well for themselves at the same time.

Susan Boyle Will Win "Britain's Got Talent"

Let me first say that I have known the name of Susan Boyle for only 24 hours. However, in that short period of time - I have watched her performance on YouTube at least one dozen times - as have tens of millions of other people all over the world. Like Simon, Amanda and Pierce - I found the first audition performance of Susan Boyle an unforgettable experience.

To me, it's not just that Susan Boyle has a wonderful singing voice - there is a certain shock factor that plays into her success so far and that will also propel her to a victory on the 2009 edition of "Britain's Got Talent". Two years ago, a man by the name of Paul Potts also took the UK and the rest of the world by storm on this same reality TV show.

Right now, I feel sorry for the other contestant who were hoping that the 2009 edition of "Britain's Got Talent" would help them rise to fame. As I see this years competition, the winner has already been chosen and that winners name is Susan Boyle.

Lawsuit Reform Overdue In United States

The United States of America is a wonderful place to live, play and work - but there are some areas of American life that are in serious need of repair. One of the biggest problems facing the country at this time is an explosion of crazy lawsuits, which are jamming up court houses all across the country.

In what most people refer to as frivolous or "junk" lawsuits, companies and private individuals with good liability insurance are being sued, even if they did nothing wrong. The reason frivolous lawsuits continue to be filed is because huge insurance companies make the decision that it is better to settle a case than to pay the expense of hiring lawyers to defend their insured clients in a court-of-law.

Some lawyers with low moral standards know that insurance companies will pay up for their clients even if they did nothing wrong. They (lawyers) just have to make sure they don't ask for too much money in their settlement negation talks. I would not be surprised if half or more of the insurance premiums we pay do not go to settle frivolous lawsuits that should have never been filed in the first place.

Obama Against More Gun Control

In the first few weeks after President Obama was elected as the 44th President of the United States, gun sales in most parts of the country shot through the roof. The reason for that increase in gun purchases was because many gun lovers were afraid that once Barack Obama became President he would set about taking guns away from honest hard working Americans - who also firmly believed in the Second Amendment of the US Constitution.

While President Obama is still serving out his first 100 days as our new leader, I have seen no sign that he intends to take guns away from law abiding Americans. Then today, President Obama made it clear that he is against reinstating gun control on assault weapons - which must be driving the total gun control crowd in San Francisco nuts.

Could it be that some far right wing radio talk show hosts got the rank and file of the GOP fired up over a gun control issue that was never intended by President Obama in the first place? I don't know, but someone stirred up millions of Americans with fake gun control talk - which made gun manufactures one of the few businesses in the US right now that are growing at a double digit rate.

Low Gas Prices Expected This Summer

Well, at least some good news came out today. AAA said that gas prices this summer should remain below $2.50 per gallon in most areas of the US. When you consider that the US economy is still in recession and the unemployment rate is edging ever upward to near 10%, lower gas prices this summer will be welcome news indeed for a weary American public.

Who could forget the summer of 2008 as all of us watched the price of gas at the pump rise almost on a daily basis. Last summer, I remember watching out my window at work as a gas station attendant on one day raised the price per gallon of gas on three different occasions.

Most of us had no idea what was about to happen to the US economy last summer. At that time, I remember just being angry at OPEC and other oil producing countries as they made billions of dollars worth of windfall profits at the expense of the American people. Now we are approaching another summer and all of us have much more important things to worry about than high gas prices.

Voice Of An Angel / Susan Boyle

Some friends at work were talking yesterday afternoon about a lady I had never heard of by the name of Susan Boyle. They were telling me that she was a contestant on "Britain's Got Talent" and also that she was going to be interviewed on the "Early Show" this morning.

I did not wake up in time to watch the Early Show, but I did visit the CBS television website to watch Susan Boyle interviewed there earlier this morning. It is very rare when someone like Susan Boyle comes along and takes the world by storm. Her voice is like an Angel and so far almost 15 million people have watched her perform on YouTube.

We all hear about the latest and greatest stuff from coworkers, but most of the time what is claimed to be the newest world phenomenon - is nothing more than simple repackaged hype. However, when it came to Susan Boyle - the world has found the "real thing" and a new star was born. This world is a beautiful place where so many jewels are just waiting to be discovered.
