Explosive Materials Found Inside NYC SVU Saturday Night

"Explosive Materials Found Inside NYC SVU Saturday Night." Last night, a police officer noticed smoke coming from a car parked near "Times Square" in New York City (NYC). After further examination, police discovered gasoline, gun power and other dangers substances in the back seat of the vehicle. Immediately, NYC police officers began to clear the crowded streets of Times Square of bystanders and tourist. Also, at least one Broadway Show was evacuated as first a police robot checked out the suspected SUV and then later bomb squad members in full protective gear took a closer look at what was inside.

Gotta Love Jockey Calvin Borel / Triple Crown Prediction

"Gotta Love Jockey Calvin Borel / Triple Crown Prediction." After jockey Calvin Borel won the Kentucky Derby today for the third time in four years, he proclaimed to a TV audience of millions that he would win the "Triple Crown" this year riding his horse named "Super Saver". While most people will just take his comments in jest, I for one would love to see a horse win the "Triple Crown" again. Aboard "Super Saver" today, Calvin Borel road his winning horse through a track that was more ridden with mud than dirt - but in the end all anyone will remember about the 2010 Kentucky Derby is that jockey Calvin Borel was once again was covered with roses in the winners circle after the race. When I first remember seeing Borel ride, at first I thought he was some kind of crazy man - but as the years have gone by it has become clear to me that he is the number one cheerleader of Thoroughbred horse racing in the United States. As Calvin Borel took his victory lap at the Kentucky Derby today, it became clear that thousands of regular folks in the stands loved this guy and really wanted him to win.

Secretariat The Movie Coming This Fall

"Secretariat The Movie Coming This Fall." Millions of people, watching the Kentucky Derby" today saw a trailer for a new movie that will be released this fall based on the last Triple Crown" winner named Secretariat. I was a young man when Secretariat won the "Triple Crown" of horse racing. The horse racing "Triple Crown" is earned when a single horse wins the three top events in the same year at the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness Stakes and at Belmont Stakes in New York. I mentioned to my wife the other day that it had been a long time since we saw a good horse movie. The last one I remember watching was called "Dreamer" starring Dakota Fanning many years ago. Secretariat the movie will star Diane Lane (Penny Chenery), John Malkovich (Lucien Laurin) and Scott Glenn / James Cromwell as (Ogden Phipps). As everyone knows, winning the "Triple Crown" of horse racing is no easy task. Sadly, back in 2006 - a horse by the name of Barbaro would have likely joined Secretariat as a "Triple Crown winner, but he suffered a life ending injury at the beginning of the Preakness Stakes that year. I look forward to watching "Secretariat" the movie this fall.

Kentucky Derby Wet Track / Safe For Horses?

"Kentucky Derby Wet Track / Safe For Horses?" As I watch the pre-race show on NBC, I have started to wonder if it is safe to have 20 horses race around a wet track? The track was also wet last year (2009) during the Kentucky Derby, but compared to this year (2010) that was nothing. I know a bunch of money rides on the Kentucky Derby each year, but in addition to some of the breeding issues that have cause some horses to come up lame the past few years, doesn't it seem more dangerous than usual to have Thoroughbred's race around a track that is more filled with water than dirt? I certainly hope that there is not a track accident today during the Kentucky Derby because of the weather, but I just have a bad gut feeling that something terrible could happen because the promoters of the Kentucky Derby seem more concerned with this race moving forward than the safety of the horses and jockey's on the track. The latest weather reports from Kentucky suggest that there may be a short break in the rain as post-time nears, but even if the rain stopped right now - there has been over two inches of rainfall at Churchill Downs today and that could make it the wettest Kentucky Derby track in the history of the race.

Pros/Cons Of Class Action Lawsuits

"Pros/Cons Of Class Action Lawsuits." One of the biggest issues that divide liberals from conservatives is the practice of class action lawsuits. So, what are the pros and cons of class action lawsuits? The pros of class action lawsuits involve a group of people who were all hurt by the negligence and/or malpractice of one defendant in the same way and being able to join together in a single action to collect damages from that party. I have always thought that the biggest pro to a class action lawsuit was experienced by the party being sued since rather than facing thousands of small lawsuits - the responsible party instead is only sued once.

On the cons side of class action lawsuits, they have caused the bankruptcy of many companies over the years as legal costs and judgments add up to more than the company is worth. Another major con to class action lawsuits is the way that some less than honorable attorney's rush to them like fish to bait in an effort to earn some quick cash with very little work. While most attorney's are respectful of their profession, class actions lawsuits seem to bring out the worst in some attorney's as they advertise endlessly in search of potential victims on television. Class action lawsuits do have a purpose in our society, but their practice should be more limited than at the current time.

Large May Day Marches Against Arizona Law

"Large May Day Marches Against Arizona Law." Every year on May 1st, there are marches all around the world to celebrate workers. Today, in cities from LA, to Dallas, to Washington D.C. - hundreds of thousands of people attended May Day marches to protest a new immigration law in Arizona that most people believe is unconstitutional. It's easy for people in non border states to sit back and throw stones at Arizona's new law, because they are not dealing with the full impact that illegal immigration is having on states like Texas, California, New Mexico and Arizona. On the other hand, there are some racists in the mix of supporters of Arizona's new immigration law and those few voices are causing this whole debate to take on a bad appearance. The United States federal government needs to do it's job through "ICE", but unlike most other government agencies - the employees of "ICE" are put through meat grinders of political correctness on a daily basis. The polarization of Washington D.C. has made it almost impossible for our elected leaders to effectively deal with illegal immigration problems by passing comprehensive immigration reform legislation.

Will The Kentucky Derby Be Rained Out?

"Will The Kentucky Derby Be Rained Out?" The State of Kentucky is receiving monsoon rains today as millions of fans around the world prepare to watch the Kentucky Derby on television. We have all seen horse races on wet tracks before, but the rain so far today in Kentucky has been hard and pretty much non-stop. So will the Kentucky Derby be called off because of rain? Stay tuned because right now no one knows the answer to that question.

Pros/Cons Of Value Added Tax (VAT)

"Pros/Cons Of Value Added Tax (VAT)." In recent weeks, some leaders in Washington D.C. have been floating an idea of imposing a Value Added Tax (VAT). So what are the pros and cons of such a tax? On the pros side, a value added tax could raise billions of dollars of tax revenue in a short period of time. Under a VAT, the U.S. federal government would tax almost everything you buy by taxing the people who build, grow or produce things before those items reach the market. Some VAT supporters claim that U.S. debt will never be paid down without some kind of value added tax at the federal level. The biggest thing on the pros side of a VAT is lowering the U.S. federal deficit.

On the cons side, no American wants to see their taxes increased. Most experts state that the value added tax (VAT) is regressive in nature and if imposed it could drive the U.S. economy even further into recession. Also, politicians in Washington D.C. want to impose a VAT on top of our current income tax system, rather than replacing it. Almost everyone except extreme liberals believe that it is a huge con to place a large new tax on top of the current income tax system, because Washington will just spend all of that new tax money - rather than paying down the U.S. debt. There are more pros and cons of a value added tax (VAT), but in my opinion the cons far exceed the pros on this issue.

Tiger Woods Will Not Play This Weekend / Misses Cut

Click Here To Discuss Tiger Woods.

"Tiger Woods Will Not Play This Weekend / Misses Cut." It does not happen that often, but golfing great Tiger Woods missed the cut at this weekends Quail Hollow Championship. Both people who follow the PGA and those that do not will be speculating all weekend as to whether or not Tiger Woods extra curricular activities with women who were not his wife might have had anything to do with his poor performance. It's almost a for gone conclusion that Tiger Woods wife will divorce him soon and now with his golf game not as perfect as before - could it be that the last few sponsors who have stuck by him during these mistakes in his personal life will still stick with him when he is not making the cut at major PGA events? I believe that the old Tiger Woods image is dead and should be buried. It's impossible for Tiger Woods handlers to try and convince the public that he has somehow changed back into the young golfer that everyone fell in love with years ago. In the future, Tiger Woods should welcome the image of a bad boy and just leave it at that. There is a following for "bad boys" in the sports world and when everything is all said and done, Tiger Woods will have a bunch of company with him in that category.

LA May Day March Against Arizona Immigration Law

"LA May Day March Against Arizona Immigration Law." In a few hours, more than 100,000 people are expected to march in LA to protest a new immigration law in Arizona that some people believe to be discriminator, racist and unconstitutional. There is a huge Mexican-American population that lives in the Los Angeles area. Police are hoping for a peaceful rally in LA today, but they are not taking any chances and plan to have a larger than normal police presence in place to assure that law and order is maintained in the streets of downtown LA. Today's rally in Los Angeles against Arizona's tough new immigration law will be only one of dozens that are planned in cities all around the United States. No issue besides abortion divides Americans as much as the issue of what to do about illegal immigration in this country. Going back decades, leaders in Washington D.C. have refused to touch the "hot potato" issue of immigration reform and now, for the first time, we are witnessing one of the 50 states taking on the role of the U.S. federal government, itself. The idea of immigration reform is the right one, but Arizona went way too far in their battle against it.

Does Lindsay Lohan Ever Sober Up?

"Does Lindsay Lohan Ever Sober Up?" Whether she is working or out on the town, it appears to me that Lindsay Lohan is always under the influence of alcohol, drugs or both. While it's easy to blame all of Lohan's problems on a bad mother and father, the truth is that Lindsay Lohan is now old enough to take responsibility for her own actions. A few years ago, we saw the same type of out-of-control self-destructive behavior from Britney Spears. The good news is that most younger Hollywood stars do eventually clean up their act and get off the drugs and alcohol. However, there have always been a few that never clean up and eventually die from drug abuse way before their time. I have been watching Lindsay Lohan closely now for several years and sadly it appears that her problems are getting worse and not better. The worst thing facing Lindsay Lohan right now is that no one in her family seems to really care about her, if that caring does not come with a bunch of money. As has always been the case, the Hollywood paparazzi is encouraging Lohan to act crazy because that type of conduct sells more tabloid news papers and draws a larger audience to entertainment type television shows.

Will Crude Oil Damage Destin, Florida Beaches?

"Will Crude Oil Damage Destin, Florida Beaches?" The oil slick that is current washing ashore in Louisiana is still hundreds of miles away from the white sandy beaches of Destin, Florida - but there is a good chance that eventually some of that leaking oil could reach one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Hundreds of thousands of people per year travel to Destin, Florida to vacation in a tropical paradise loaded with clean Gulf of Mexico water and some of the most beautiful white beach sand on the planet. One of my uncles and his entire family travel to Destin, Florida each summer and they have told me many times that their trips to Destin are the highlight of their year. Of course, the main concern of the federal government right now are the people and wildlife that are currently being threatened by this still leaking crude oil. If BP and the federal government are not able to stopped the leaking of 5000 barrels of oil near the former Horizon oil rig site, areas from Gulfport, Mobile and yes even Destin, Florida could face an onslaught of crude oil pollution within the next few weeks.

Oil Washing Ashore In Louisiana?

"Oil Washing Ashore In Louisiana?" Everyone knew it was just a matter of time before crude oil started washing ashore in Louisiana. That tragic event started happening yesterday and there is no real time table available for when the flow of oil will be stopped in the Gulf of Mexico. Estimates place the cost of cleaning up the oil that has leaked so far to be in excess for three billion dollars and according to agreements between BP, the company that owned the now sunken oil rig and the United States government - BP will pick up the entire price tag for this disaster and it's clean-up. Yesterday, President Barack Obama announced that no new offshore oil drilling permits will be approved until the federal government gets to the bottom of what happened to the Horizon oil rig. Offshore oil drilling proponents appear more like deer in the headlights right now than a group of people who have a strong position to argue. I believe that offshore oil supporters should direct their anger at BP, because it is now clear that BP did not have a good plan in place to stop the flow of oil if their platform suffered a catastrophic explosion followed by a prolonged fire.

Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) Returns In Iron Man 2

(Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) Returns In Iron Man 2." This time next weekend, millions of Americans will be glued to their seats in movie theaters all across the country as Iron Man 2 opens nationwide. For a change, the premiere of this movie takes place on April 30th in the UK - so there may be some reviews being share from across the pond, soon. Like many others, I loved the first Iron Man movie and I intend to watch Iron Man 2 next weekend. This comic book story translates well to the big screen and Robert Downey Jr. who plays the defense tycoon Tony Stark in these movies is fantastic in that leading role. Joining Downey Jr. again in Iron Man 2 are Gwyneth Paltrow (Pepper Potts) and Don Cheadle (James "Rhodey" Rhodes). From the looks of the Iron Man 2 official trailer, which you can watch below, the second movie in this series will be filled with just as much action and special effects as the first installment released a couple of years ago. Iron Man 2 should get the 2010 summer movie season off to a good start and I look forward to more great flicks as the 4th of July nears.
