Libya Falling Apart But Gaddafi Remains

After many days of NATO bombing, the Gaddafi government remains pretty much intact. President Obama has been on every television program that will interview him - emotionally telling the American people that he will never send US ground troops to fight in Libya. On Wednesday, a few more members of the Libyan government decided to switch sides and give up their loyalty to Gaddafi. However, it's going to take much more than a few Libyan bureaucrats to make Gaddafi understand that his days are numbered as the leader of that country.

I think President Obama has gone about this whole Libyan military campaign all wrong. It just doesn't make sense for the President of the United States to authorize military force against another country (Libya), unless he or she is prepared to go all the way and win the war. President Obama has said on multiple occasions that what the United States is doing in Libya right now is not war, but instead a humanitarian mission to keep Gaddafi from committing mass murder against his own people. It appears that President Obama does view Gaddafi as one of the worst leaders on the face of the Earth, but that's not enough for him to do what it takes to remove him from power.

As President Obama attempts to have his cake and eat it too in Libya, the rebels in that nation are getting nowhere at toppling the Gaddafi government. On one hand, the President is willing to sacrifice untold numbers of Gaddafi's military who are earning little money and fighting, while at the same time he is not willing to take his non war fight to the real person who is the head of this nasty snake. US bombs and missiles are killing hundreds of Libyan soldiers everyday, but President Obama has gone out of his way to tell the American people that directing those attacks against Gaddafi himself is not US foreign policy.

After watching the rag tag group of men who make up the Libyan rebel movement for awhile now, it's clear that they will never win their fight to remove Gaddafi from power. On Wednesday, some sources in the Obama administration even suggested that the United States should give weapons to the rebels so they can get rid of Gaddafi once and for all. That idea is the stupidest thing I have heard yet coming from the Obama administration. The United States does not even know who these rebels are and that fact could lead to US soldiers deaths in the future, if ground troops are ever deployed in Libya.

Judge Judy Rushed To Hospital After 911 Call

Wednesday morning, a 911 call was place from the television studio where Judge Judy tapes her nationwide show in Los Angeles. Sources say that Judge Judy Sheindlin was placed into an ambulance and rushed to the hospital. This story is still breaking and few other details are available at this time. I will update this post later - after more information is released.

(Update: 10:30pm CST) - Judge Judy is going to be OK. According on LA-TV she was suffering from intestinal pain and was taken to the hospital as a precaution. Judy is expected to be released from the hospital tomorrow.

(Update: 11:30pm CST) - According to some people who were in Judge Judy's audience today when she became ill, she started talking gibberish before she ended the taping session and before paramedics were called. Those actions lead some people to think she was suffering a small stroke. However, her representatives claim that she did not.

Defense Suggests George Anthony Murdered Caylee

It's a never ending circus when it comes to the Casey Anthony murder case in Florida. First, Casey Anthony's defense team suggested that Roy Kronk must have murdered two-year-old Caylee Anthony and when that didn't pan out for them, now they are suggesting that Casey Anthony's father George must have done it. You've got to hand it to Jose Baez and the rest of Casey Anthony's defense team, because when it comes to finding someone other then their guilty client to blame for that little girl's death - they are certainly creative in their techniques.

It would not surprise me if sometime before Casey Anthony's trial begins in May, even the Pope himself will be accused of murdering Caylee - just to try and take the heat off of Casey. The murder trial of Casey Anthony cannot come fast enough for me. I believe that once the pre-trial motion games are finally brought to an end, Casey will face the justice she has had coming to her for a long time now. I still believe deep down inside that when the trial is almost over and there are no more games for Jose Baez to play - there will be a plea deal struck that will send Casey Anthony to prison for the rest of her life.

It's sad that defense attorney's are allowed to accuse innocent people of murder in order to help guilty folks like Casey Anthony get away with a crime. I know that's just the way the US justice system works, but I don't have to like it. There are too many innocent people in jail today for me to lose any sleep over what might happen to Casey Anthony in her upcoming trial. Unlike some criminal cases, the evidence against Casey Anthony is so damning that there is no jury in their right mind who would ever find her not guilty. The time has come for the evidence to speak for itself and for Casey's much longer then 15-minutes of fame to be over.

Is Moammar Gaddafi Laughing At President Obama?

I have been watching closely for the past couple of weeks trying to understand what President Obama's policy is toward Libya. Frankly, I do not understand what he is trying to do and I am not just one of those extreme right wingers who thinks everything President Obama does is wrong. President Obama has addressed the nation and has also been interviewed by NBC News, but I still don't understand what his final goal is when it comes to Moammar Gaddafi and Libya.

I really believe that strong man Gaddafi is sitting in some secure underground bomb proof bunker somewhere in Libya and laughing his head off at what President Obama is telling the American people. President Obama appears to be more concerned with what the Arab League, Europe and the United Nations think about his limited military action against Libya then the American people.

Why else would our President be out of the country when he started bombing Libya? Even when President Obama returned to the United States, he spoke to the nation not from the White House, but a different venue to try and down play US military action in Libya. I just get the feeling that when watching President Obama on television about Libya recently, he is not talking to the American public. Instead, he seems to be directing his words toward US critics around the world. Doesn't he know that some countries will never approve of the United States no matter what he says?

During President Obama's first military test as President, he appears to be failing miserably because he is trying to be all things to all people. In my gut, I think President Obama has started to believe his own campaign rhetoric used to win the White House about what a terrible war monger President George W. Bush was and he does not want to be viewed by the world in that same way. However, President Obama needs to remember who his real boss is and that is not the Arab League, Europe or the United Nations, but 300 million Americans who put him in office in 2008 and who will remove him just as easily in 2012 - if his priorities don't change.

This Baylor Fan Wants A&M To Win It All

I was extremely disappointed when Texas A&M stopped the Baylor Lady Bears from competing in their second NCAA "Final Four" competition on Tuesday night. However, now that the Baylor Lady Bears are out of the "Final Four" - I will be cheering the Aggies and hoping they win the national championship. In 2011, no two teams in girls basketball have been better matched against each other then the Baylor Lady Bears and Texas A&M. In four head to head match-up this year, only a handful of points separated the winner from the loser.

I knew that the game Tuesday night between Baylor and the Aggies would be a tough one for Baylor to win. As I have said before, it was a terrible decision for the NCAA to put Baylor and A&M in the same bracket. That move made it impossible for both of these great teams to compete in the "Final Four". Now we know the "Big 12" team that will be moving on to compete in Indianapolis will be the Texas A&M Aggies and they have my 100% support as they move forward. I am a big supporter not only of the Baylor Lady Bears, but the "Big 12" conference in general. Sure, there are thousands of disappointed Baylor Bears fans tonight - but do any of them really want UConn to win again? I don't think so.

It's time for all Baylor Lady Bears fans to get behind Texas A&M as they play in their first "Final Four" championship ever. I can only image the excitement in College Station tonight as they prepare to cheer their team on to a potential national title. In 3 out of 4 games in 2011, the Baylor Lady Bears came out on top in very close games. Sadly for Bears fans - the last and most important game of the four was the one when Texas A&M won. I am so proud of the 2011 Baylor Bears and especially senior Melissa Jones who proved herself a true champion as she continued to play even with a serious eye injury late in the season. Ok, Aggies - it your turn now to bring a national championship back to the "Big 12". We are all counting on you.

Has America Lost It's Ability To Laugh?

Sometimes I worry that political correctness has caused the American people to lose their ability to laugh. Everyday, I read somewhere on the Internet that someone or group of people were extremely offended by something someone said. In the workplace, the rules of political correctness have gotten to the point that no one dares crack a joke or say anything funny without running the risk of someone reporting that person to a supervisor. The American people use to laugh all the time, even about issues that were serious in nature. However, that has now changed and I blame the litigious nature of our country for the problem.

Put simply, there are too many lawyers in the United States of America. Most people who claim that they are offended by the jokes or words of an other, many times are just looking to earn a profit via a lawsuit for themselves at the expense of someone else. Not only is laughter fun, it also provides a huge health benefit for the person laughing. It's not uncommon these days for me to walk by hundreds of people at the local mall and not see one of them laughing or even smiling. The United States has been through many difficult times before and humor has always played a role in taking the edge off of those problems.

I believe the most important aspect to remaining happy in life is to not take yourself that seriously. That is why I love using self deprecating humor when visiting with friends and family. As lawsuits have reached epidemic proportion in the United States, some folks are even being sued by other - because they are just trying to be funny. Living in the United States of America is the greatest gift any person could ever receive. Let's not ruin what made this country so great by suing everyone who dares to try and use humor - just to help get themselves through the day. Come on America - lighten up.

4th Time's The Charm For Texas A&M Against Baylor?

Later tonight, Texas A&M will take on the Baylor Lady Bears for the 4th time this season. In the previous three games, Baylor has won with narrow victories against the Aggies. However, each game has been difficult for Baylor to win - so it's anyone guess who will end up victorious tonight in their 4th meeting this season. Both Bryan/College Station and Waco are heavily invested in the game tonight. My guess is that when the Baylor Lady Bears play the Texas A&M Aggies this evening, there will be a huge crowd on hand in Dallas to watch the game.

I believe the odds are in favor of Texas A&M in the game tonight. However, the Baylor Lady Bears looked awesome on Sunday against a scrappy team from Green Bay. In Central Texas, it has become a must get ticket every time the Baylor Lady Bears play the Texas A&M Aggies. The desire to win is so important in each game of basketball. When Baylor and A&M play, there is no margin for error for either team - so the club that makes the fewest mistakes tonight, will end up winning a ticket to the 2011 "Final Four" in Indianapolis. Will the Brittney Griner effect play a role in the outcome of the game tonight? You bet it will.

Baylor Lady Bears head coach Kim Mulkey has bet the farm on one player named Brittney Griner, so Griner will play the most important role in Tuesday's playoff game against the Aggies. During most games, Brittney Griner rises to the occasion to pull out a victory for Baylor. However, the coaching staff at Texas A&M have had more than their fair share of opportunities to examine what makes her tick and and find ways to counter it. The game tonight between Baylor and A&M should be the best female basketball game this season. I am so looking forward to watching it on ESPN tonight.

Donald Trump Is Not Running For President

Donald Trump may be many things, but a regular politician is not one of them. It seems like every four years, Mr. Trump starts acting like he is seriously thinking about running for our nations highest office, but he never follows through. Donald Trump only cares about one person and that person is Donald Trump himself. This billionaire is a true narcissist in every sense of the word. No matter what the subject matter, Trump finds a away to turn that discussion into something about himself or one of his many businesses.

It has become almost like "Comedy Central" to watch a humble Donald Trump appear every four years and put on a act like he really is thinking about running for the office of President of the United States. There is no way that Donald Trump will run for President, because he has more than his fair share of skeletons in the closet for his political opposition to have a field day with. However, from Trump's point of view - there is no downside to flirting with the American public every four years, if that flirtation draws more attention to himself.

At the heart of Donald Trump is a great salesman and marketer. Every time I watch him on television, he is promoting something that he has a financial interest in. There is no financial interest for Donald Trump in becoming the President of the United States. Instead, each US presidential election allows the Donald to call up many of his friends in the news media and tease them with the idea he might throw his hat into the ring and run for President. When hearing him say those words, they happily ask him to appear on their shows to tease the public once again about a potential Trump run for the presidency.

Scott Pelley Good Choice For CBS Evening News

Now that Katie Couric is leaving the CBS Evening News, rumor has it that "60 Minutes" reporter Scott Pelley has agreed to take her place. I could not be more pleased with that decision since I have watched Pelley on television long before he moved to New York and joined CBS News. Scott Pelley began his news career in Lubbock, Texas - but soon moved up to the Dallas Fort Worth area where I use to watch him all the time as a hard news reporter.

Scott Pelley is the real deal and I believe he offers just what the doctor ordered at the CBS Evening News. Even with his limited role at "60 Minutes" all of the stories that Pelley has been involved with there have been professionally done and in keeping with what will be expected of him when he takes over the anchor chair at the CBS Evening News. It was a mistake to try and turn Katie Couric into something that she was not and that was a hard news reporter. Scott Pelley is already a hard news reporter, so anchoring the news at CBS should be second nature to him.

The only other current employee at CBS News that would be an equal to Scott Pelley as anchor, would be Harry Smith. I did not understand why CBS did not bring Harry in before they hired Couric, but they did not. Now that Couric is gone and Pelley will be the new CBS Evening News anchor this summer, I look forward to switching my old evening news habits back over to CBS. If you know little about Scott Pelley right now, please give him a chance. He is a real newsman in the classic sense of the word and I am so happy that CBS News is finally moving back in the right direction.

Will Sex-Bias Class Action Lawsuit Against Walmart Proceed?

The US Supreme Court will decide soon if the largest class action lawsuit ever will be allowed to continue against retail giant Walmart. At the heart of this case, a hand full of women are alleging that Walmart discriminates against it's female workers in both promotions and income. Over the course of years, this simple case became a class action lawsuit and if it is allowed to proceed by the US Supreme Court - it will become the largest class action lawsuit in US history.

There are huge interests weighing in on both sides of this case. On the defendants side, almost every major corporation in the United States is lining up against granting class action status to this lawsuit. On the plaintiffs side, almost every major labor union is fighting to make sure it gets to court. The number of plaintiffs in this potential class action lawsuit against Walmart are in the million of people. That alone is a number that scares both small and large companies alike. Most of the time, I am against large class action lawsuits - because they end up creating rich lawyers at the expense of the clients they are pretending to protect.

While I have no idea how the US Supreme Court will decide in this Walmart case, I hope that they do not approve class actions status - but leave the option open for individuals who believe they have been wronged by Walmart to file individual lawsuits against the company. I believe there are many men and women who have been wronged by Walmart over the years, but to allow a class action case is not the best remedy for this situation.

In almost every class action lawsuit I have examined over the years, the plaintiffs would have received more money if their lawsuit would have been allowed to proceed without class action status. In a regular lawsuit there are limits to what an attorney can charge their client if they win a case. However, in some class action lawsuits - the lawyers can pocket millions of dollars - while their clients are given next to nothing in settlement money.

Japanese Radiation Found In USA Rain Water

Several states on the east and west coast have detected small amounts of Japanese radiation in rain water. Those levels of radiation are extremely small, but it just goes to show how a major nuclear accident in Japan can and does effect the United States. While some Americans worry about themselves, just image what the Japanese people must be thinking as additional amounts of radiation leak from several damaged nuclear power plants each day? Some Americans have been concerned about radiation ever since the atomic bomb was developed at the end of World War II.

The truth is that everyone is exposed to some radiation everyday of their life. However, too much of it can be deadly and cause many health problems later in life. Even something as simple as a chest x-ray subjects the body to some radiation, but most people get their biggest exposure to radiation from the Sun. The Universe is filled with radiation and small amounts bombard the Earth each day. When the United States first unlocked the secret of atomic weapons, new concerns were felt by Americans and others about the potential of large numbers of people dying from overexposure to radiation.

Today, the biggest concern of overexposure to radiation does not come from nuclear weapons, but instead from electric power plants that use nuclear rods to create energy. Those rods are extremely hot and without a steady source of fresh water to cool them, they will over heat and eventually meltdown. That is what happened in Japan and so far no one knows how to stop that leaking radiation. I expect to hear more stories about Japanese radiation being found in the United States as time goes by. While the folks most at risk are in Japan, the prevailing west to east winds will carry some of that radiation to the United States over time.

Who Is (VCU) Virginia Commonwealth University?

Until Sunday night, I had never heard of Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). Then they did what many people thought to be impossible by beating the number one ranked team in the nation, Kansas. Like Butler before them, VCU took charge against a higher ranked team and when the final buzzer sounded - they were the winner of the biggest upset in the 2011 NCAA championship so far. Early on, before the 2011 NCAA championship games began, most basketball experts had Kansas winning it all. Now, those same prognosticators are going back to their bracket predictions with "white out" as the "Final Four" begins this week.

Maybe I'm just strange, but I love it when underdog teams that are not suppose to win against highly ranked schools show up to play and defeat the conventional wisdom. I don't recall a single sports announcer on television picking VCU to defeat Kansas on Sunday. However, when all of these folks show back up to work tomorrow - expect them to have loads of knowledge and information as to why VCU defeated Kansas by a large margin. National sports announcers have been eating a lot crow the past few days as first Duke went down, then Arizona, then Miami and now Kansas.

Right now, it's anyone's guess as to who will win the 2011 NCAA championship. Could it be Butler or VCU? Yes it could and oh what a big story that would be. Sunday evening, I watched Green Bay come within inches of defeating the number one ranked Baylor Lady Bears in Dallas. Could it be that the 2011 NCAA championship will be dominate by little known schools? At this time, the answer seems to be yes. However, when all of these teams get to the "Final Four" games - experience always plays a big part in victory and I expect 2011 to be no different.

So, who is Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU)? On Sunday March 27, 2011 - they beat the best college basketball team in the nation.

Media Matters To Sabotage Fox News

Most Americans have never heard of "Media Matters", but that may soon change now that they have declared war on the Fox News Channel. The first time I heard of "Media Matters" was when they almost daily took the words of Rush Limbaugh and twisted them into something evil. They have not given up on trying to bring down Rush Limbaugh, but now they are setting their sights on another media outlet that conservatives turn to for news and that company is the Fox News Channel. Like so many of you, I have grown tired of extreme liberals and conservatives trying to pull voters to their narrow minded side of politics.

Just image the uproar at major news outlets like the "New York Times", "NBC News" and "MSNBC" if Fox News declared open war on them. More than likely we would be hearing non stop coverage from those media companies as to the wrongness of Fox News' approach toward their news operations. Do you think the Times, NBC or MSNBC will denounce "Media Matters for this latest negative campaign against Fox News? Of course not. Here in the United States we have a huge problem with extremist from the right and the left. Most Americans now declare themselves as independent voters and don't closely follow any political person or group that is on the fringe.

Sadly, most of the American people are way ahead of both Republicans and Democrats and travel to the polls every two years to vote for the lessor of two evils. The last major nationwide presidential election saw the country swing violently to the left, as George W. Bush disenfranchised millions of people who had earlier voted for him. I expect to see the same thing happen to President Obama as the vast majority of Americans in the middle who do not approve of his leftist domestic agenda - will turn out in large numbers to vote against him in 2012.

Baylor Lady Bears Squeak By Green Bay In Tough Game

There were several times during the Baylor/Green Bay game on Sunday night that I became worried that Green Bay would upset the number one ranked Baylor Lady Bears. This was just another time when the pundits were wrong. Green Bay was a much better team than anyone gave them credit for and they almost pulled off the biggest upset win of the NCAA tournament. For most of the game, I watched in amazement as Green Bay hit three point shots as easily as most players on teams would make a layup. While most teams worry about Baylor's Brittney Griner, Green Bay took her out of the game by shooting three point shots that she could not block.

Now it's time for Baylor to meet Texas A&M for the fourth time this season. Either Baylor or Texas A&M will be traveling to Indianapolis to play in the 2011 "Final Four". My sister lives in College Station and is a huge fan of A&M, while I live in Waco and have always support the Baylor Lady Bears. On Tuesday night, only one of these great teams will earn a trip to the "Final Four" and I certainly hope that it is Baylor. While I want Baylor to win, I do think the odds of them winning against Texas A&M for the fourth straight time in one season is doubtful. Both Texas A&M and Baylor are very closely matched and who ever shows up and wants to win the most on Tuesday night will find themselves in the Indianapolis Final Four.

I cannot say enough about how impressed I was with the three point shooting of Green Bay on Sunday night. Early in the game, Baylor did not have an answer for their red hot shooting and when Brittney Griner got into foul trouble in the first half, my stomach sank. However, like they have done so many other times in 2011 - the Baylor Lady Bears found a way to pull out another win against Green Bay and hopeful they will do the same thing on Tuesday night against Texas A&M. Just one more game to go before the "Final Four" and victory for the Baylor Lady Bears in 2011. That national championship trophy is so close - I can already see it on display at Baylor.

Most Terrifying Video Yet From Japanese Tsunami

Over the past few weeks, I have watched dozens of videos that were taken by survivors of the great Japan earthquake and tsunami of 2011. However, until this morning when I watched the video below for the first time - I did not fully realize the full power of such an event on a community. The video below was taken by a Japanese man standing on the roof of a building about 10 stories high. As you watch as the water continues to rise, just image how you would feel if that same wall of water was coming at you.

Since learning about them in high school, tsunami's have always interested me. However, until today - I never fully realized how dire the circumstance would be if caught in one. No one who was below the level of the Japanese tsunami would have had any chance whatsoever of survival. The power of water has always amazed me and I can only image the terror that was running through the minds of the people who were killed, just seconds before they were hit by a massive wall of water. If you have not seen the video below, be prepared for a feeling of sorrow and amazement at one of God's greatest powers. The power of simple water.

John Hinckley Should Be Released From Confinement

In 1981, a young man by the name of John Hinckley took a gun to where President Ronald Reagan was speaking and as the President exited the venue he started firing his gun at him. We later found out that Hinckley was obsessed with actress Jody Foster and the character she played in the movie "Taxi". After a mental evaluation, it turned out that John Hinckley was not mentally stable - so he has been confined to mental health care facilities since 1982. Over the years, there have been several attempts to get John Hinckley released back into the American population - but all of those attempts have been unsuccessful.

Soon, John Hinckley's doctors will try yet again to get him released from mental confinement and this time they might find their efforts successful. Years ago, I wrote on this blog that it would be wrong to release John Hinckley until former President Ronald Reagan was dead. Reagan died many years ago and with the exception of his widow Nancy - few other people are still alive today who were negatively effected by Hinckley's attempted assassination plot against the President of the United States. To this day, I still remember where I was and what I was doing when I first heard the news that President Ronald Reagan had been shot.

I was a strong supporter of the late President and I firmly believe if still alive he would agree that the time has come to give John Hinckley another chance at freedom. Back in 1981, John Hinckley was just a kid in many ways who had suffered with internal demons for much of his life. Between then and now, Hinckley has been treated by the best doctors in the United States and if they truly believe that he is no longer a threat to himself or anyone else - it's time to release Hinckley from his confinement. When President Ronald Reagan was first shot, I would not have been as opened minded as I am today about the release of John Hinckley. However, with time - we all age and change and hopefully the same can be said for John Hinckley.

Duke/Arizona/Miami Out Of Final Four Contention

2011 is turning out to be an interesting March Madness as three great teams have already lost and found themselves out of contention for the "Final Four". The biggest surprise to me was Arizona's defeat of Duke. Then within a few days, Arizona had a chance to defeat UConn - but came up two points short in a close game on Saturday. Then something really amazing happened as Butler came out on top against heavily favored Miami yesterday too. Most of my interest in the 2011 NCAA championship is on the girls side, which should put the Baylor Lady Bears in a tough fight for the national championship against UConn.

That said - after watching Duke, Arizona and Miami get eliminated before the "Elite 8" - anything is possible during this years "Final Four" games. Actually, I had made a decision several weeks ago not to even watch many of the men games - because the teams playing seemed to be just more of the same from years past. However, with Arizona's big victory over Duke and Butlers win against Miami - all bets are off as to who will end up victorious this season. I still believe that Kansas will be the ultimate winner of the Final Four for the men in 2011, but anything can happen between now and then.

Back on the women's side of the NCAA, either Baylor or Texas A&M will face UConn in this years championship game. Sadly, both Baylor and Texas A&M will not make it to the Final Four because of a bracket controversy and that's a huge mistake. During March Madness, any team can beat another if the attitude of one team is superior to the other. So many of the teams playing in the 2011 Final Four are matched up evenly. In the end, the team who wants to win the most and move forward in the NCAA championship - will usually come out on top.

Cancer Claims Another Victim: Geraldine Ferraro Dead

She survived for twelve years with blood cancer, but today one of the strongest women in the world finally died from it. Geraldine Ferraro was 75-years-old when she passed away this morning. Americans in their 50's and older remember Ferraro well, because she was the first woman in American history to run for Vice-President of the United States. Later in life, she could be seen on a regular basis on the Fox News Channel where she served as a commentator. While I seldom agreed with Geraldine Ferraro's brand of politics - she was always interesting to watch and listen to on television.

Like my father, many friends and other family members - Ferraro's cause of death was cancer. I have written here dozens of times over the years about how cancer has effected my life, because of how it has claimed so many people I have known and loved over the years. Geraldine Ferraro put up a valiant fight against cancer and managed to stay alive for 12 years after it was first diagnosed. Many people are not so fortunate as cancer claims their life in a matter of weeks or months. When Geraldine Ferraro was asked by presidential candidate Walter Mondale in the early 80's to be his running mate, it was front page news because until then - no female had ever been asked to play such a large and important role in the United States.

For years I have been asking the same question when it comes to cancer and that is why can't medical professionals find a cure for this terrible and dreaded disease? In 2001, my father died from pancreatic cancer only six months after finding out that he had it. Ferraro fought a good fight against blood cancer for well over a decade, but most people who are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer are usually not so fortunate. Along with millions of other people, I will continue to fight cancer with the only tool available to me. That tool is the money I contribute to organizations like the American Cancer Society who really seem to care about finding a cure for this dreaded disease, soon.

Katie Couric Finally Shown The Door At CBS News

According to Howard Kurtz, CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric will not have her contract renewed and will be off-the-air come June. So goes the CBS News experiment of hiring a well like woman from morning television and trying to remake her into something that she is not for an evening news program. Even casual observers of television knew that taking Katie Couric from a three hour morning television show and putting her in a 30 minute show in the early evening hours would be a disaster. However, as they have done so many times before - the suits at a television network decided to ignore their market research and try something new anyway.

Many years later, Katie Couric is much richer - but less a powerhouse in television then she was as the co-host of the "Today Show". I tell people all the time that network television executives can never be satisfied with something great they create. The only thing that seems to give them pleasure is to create a wonderful show and then find a stupid way to ruin it. Now CBS News has pie all over it's face and Katie Couric has lost much of her early career prestige simple because neither she or they could leave well enough alone. I personally like Katie Couric, but since I don't watch the CBS Evening News - it's almost as though I have not seen her work for several years except on "60 Minutes".

Time and time again, wonderful stars are introduced to the television audience at home and the public loves them. However, even with great ratings and fantastic advertising revenue - TV executives are never satisfied, so they keep making silly changes to those shows and end up ruining them. I hope that Katie Couric finds a way to get back into early morning or daytime television on a show that will give her several hours to entertain an audience. The Katie Couric/CBS News experiment has been a terrible failure, but since most network TV executives refuse to learn from history - this will not be the last time they try to snooker the public into watching a bad show simply by throwing a bunch of money at them or a big star.

Husband/Wife Suffer Heart (Attack) Failure At The Same Time

Wednesday in Joyce, Washington a man (60 years old) rushed to save his wife (59 years old) after she suffered a heart attack. The man called 911 and began to preform CPR on her until paramedics could arrive. According to police in Joyce, the husband also went into cardiac arrest shortly after beginning CPR on his dying wife. When paramedics arrived at the home, the man was found slumped over his wife and both were dead. Strange events happen in the world every single day, but this one is the most bizarre I have heard of in years.

In today's modern society, many people live active lives well into their 80's and 90's. However, sometimes it's impossible to make sense out of these types of situations - so the safe answer is to always say that God must have had a hand in timing of the deaths of these two people. Many couples from what I call the "old school" often pray that when death comes to one spouse - the other will soon follow - so they can live together forever in heaven. My guess is that this couple in Washington State must have been better suited together than either would have been apart, so God called them home at exactly the same time.

Police are refusing to identify this couple by name, because some family members have yet to be notified. I searched the Internet tonight to see if I could find other events exactly like this one and there are few cases on record where one spouse died of a heart attack, while trying to save his or her mate from the same thing. There have always been strange events in the world, but this is one of the strangest I have ever heard of. It's common to hear of married couples who parish together in automobile accidents or a plane crash, but it very unusual indeed for both to die from a heart attack at the exact same time.

Japanese Nuclear Workers Continue Their Suicide Mission

When one of the worst earthquakes in modern history destroyed some of Japan's nuclear power plants, a few people choose to stay there and risk their lives in order to save others. Those workers are still on the job today, but some medical officials claim that most of them will be dead within the next 12 months due to being overexposed to radiation. When someone in the United States risks their life in order to save someone else, we call that person a hero.

I'm sure there is a similar word in the Japanese language and hopefully the government of Japan will rightly recognize these nuclear workers who voluntary went on a suicide mission to save thousands of people. The Japanese people have proven themselves a tough group of folks over the past two weeks as a major earthquake/tsunami and nuclear disaster took the lives of over 10,000 of their fellow citizens. Anyone who has watched an old World War II movie saw Japanese back then taking their own lives in suicide missions during a time of war.

It appears that bravery in not in short supply even today in Japan as a group of nuclear technicians put their own lives in danger to try and stop the worst nuclear accident in world history. If these brave people lived in the United States, we would erect monuments and statues to honor their selfless sacrifice to the nation. I'm certain that when Japan returns to normal, these brave souls will also be honored as Japanese heroes of the highest order.

Duke Done In By Arizona Wildcats (Sweet Sixteen)

One of the best teams in college basketball for the past decade has been the Duke Blue Devils. Last night, as most NCAA fans watched and waited for them to beat the Arizona Wildcats - something strange happened. In the second half of play, Duke did not show up to play and in the process found themselves knocked out of the "Sweet Sixteen". Some people have commented on the Internet this morning that legendary Coach Krzyzewski or better known to Duke fans as Coach K must have jinxed the team when he stopped for a half-time interview with a TV reporter.

There are a lot of superstitions in college basketball and when March Madness rolls around, almost anything can get blamed when a team that is suppose to win does not. Only a handful of people in the United States thought that Arizona would defeat Duke last night and today those folks are looking like the smartest people in the country. College basketball in March is similar to the NFL where the old saying that any team can beat any other on any given Sunday. However, I was shocked by the way Arizona came from behind to beat up on Duke last night.

It's good for underdog teams to win every once and a while in college basketball. However, I would not like it if my favorite Baylor Lady Bears were defeated early in the same way Duke was last night. For many NCAA fans, the pot of potential teams eligible to play in the 2011 Final Four was completely mixed up after Duke's defeat last night. I'm sure TV prognosticators will be busy all day trying to recreate their brackets now that Duke will not be in the Final Four. The 2011 NCAA championship just became a lot more interesting.

Baylor Lady Bears Kim Mulkey Best Coach In Basketball

The word best is used many times when it is not deserved. However, when it comes to Baylor Lady Bears head coach Kim Mulkey - I believe that it is fitting. Anyone who really wants to know who the best coach in college basketball is today, only needed to watch Kim Mulkey as her team completely destroyed Prairie View A&M last weekend. In the first half of play, Prairie View A&M only scored 8 points to Baylor's 30 something. However, during the first half of play - it was impossible to tell the difference on Kim Mulkey's face between that game and the nail biter with UConn earlier in the season.

There is never a down moment for coach Kim Mulkey when she is on the basketball court with her Baylor Lady Bears team. Mulkey is the most intense basketball coach I have ever watched in the NCAA and that is why her team is in contention to win another national championship in 2011. Part of being a great basketball coach involves using words and actions to motivate players on your team to play at the best level at all times. There are times during some games when I cannot believe that the officials have not called a technical foul on her, but it's probably likely that those officials know that much of what coach Mulkey does at court-side is just an act to motivite her players to be even better.

I have high hopes that the Baylor Lady Bears will win the national NCAA title in 2011, but even if they don't - the best coach in college basketball today calls her home Waco, Texas. With coach Kim Mulkey calling the shots in ladies basketball at Baylor University, the school finds itself mentioned almost on a daily basis in national sports publications and television shows. Head coach Kim Mulkey has single handedly brought sports at Baylor University to the big time and without a doubt she is more than worth her weight in Gold.

Give Me My Whooper Jr. Or I'll Hit You In The Head

Isn't spring break wonderful? Recently, in Florida - a young woman wearing a bikini ordered a Whooper Jr. at Burger King. Apparently, she thought it was taking too long for her order to arrive - so she started yelling at the employees at Burger King and when that didn't help she jumped onto the counter and hit one employee of the restaurant in the head with a plastic charity donation bottle. While these types of YouTube videos are funny to watch, in reality this type of behavior should not be condoned by anyone.

Of course this young woman who was in Florida from out-of-town was arrested and soon began to cry, because she had no one available to take care of her three young children while she was in jail. Child protective services should investigate to make sure this women is even fit to raise young children. In any case, other people in the same Burger King started acting badly after her outburst and by the time police arrived the whole place was a complete mess. No word yet as to whether alcohol or drugs played a role in this Whooper Jr. fight, but I would bet money that this young woman was under the influence of something.

If you would like to watch the video of this Burger King fight over a Whooper Jr., click here. I know spring break is a time when young people blow off steam, but what happened at this Burger King in Florida is unacceptable behavior. I believe it's time for prosecutors and judges to start making an example out of some people arrested for such stupidity in order to discourage this type of activity from getting worse.

Fort Worth Truck/Car Overpass Accident

Early this morning, an 18-wheeler-truck was involved in a traffic accident in Fort Worth, Texas. Pictures from the scene show the truck hanging from an overpass, but that's not the whole story. Beneath the truck was a car with two people trapped inside. Forth Worth fire and rescue rushed to the scene and save not only the truck drivers life, but the two trapped inside the car, as well. In major cities all over the country, this kind of accident happens all the time. It is a rarity for no one to lose their life in accidents like the one in Fort Worth this morning.

I remember many years ago when an accident like this one took place in Houston, Texas. That large truck was filled with gasoline and as it hung over the side of an overpass, the burning fuel made it seem like there was a water fall of burning fuel rushing over the side. The truck driver in that accident was not as lucky as the one this morning was in Fort Worth. With so many big rig trucks on the road today, folks in cars do not have much of a chance for survival if something goes wrong on the open road. That is why I try to avoid Interstate Highways and it is also the main reason why I dread using freeways in major cities around the United States. Many of the 18-wheeler-trucks I see on the road today, do not appear to be well maintained.

Unfortunately, huge 18-wheeler-trucks are licensed and inspected in states all over the United States. I believe some states tend to look the other way when big rigs go through inspections and then those less than safe trucks are allowed to travel the United States in poor working order. The next time you are traveling down a busy Interstate highway or freeway, take a glance at the big rig truck passing by on the left side of your car. If you look long enough, it's easy to find all kinds of things almost falling off of some of them. Thankfully, no one was killed in the accident in Fort Worth, Texas this morning. However, it won't be long before another accident like this one occurs and more than likely people will die as a result.

Large Fire At Miami Airport: March 24, 2011

A huge fire was reported in the early morning hours Thursday March 24, 2011 at the Miami International Airport. After the first response by firefighters, a second alarm was placed as flames could be seen for miles shooting into the air. It appears that some type of fuel storage facility is involved in this fire as numerous pictures have started to be posted on the Internet. The cause of Thursday's fire at the Miami Airport is not known at this time. Local TV stations and newspapers in the Miami area are providing live coverage of this break story. Paris Hilton Does Not Like Black Guys?

This is the first time in my life I have ever felt sorry for Paris Hilton. In a new book, someone said that Ms. Hilton told them in 1999 that she did not like black men. This is the most ridiculous story to come out of Hollywood in years and it's crystal clear that the person saying this is completely making things up just for the money. Anyone who really thought that Paris Hilton was that kind of person, would have said something back in 1999 when they first heard her utter those words. That is why I believe this story is a total fabrication and not to be believed.

Paris Hilton, through her attorney, has called this report completely false and they are threatening legal action against the person making these claims. Paris Hilton may be many bad and terrible things, but not this. Ms. Hilton was born with a silver spoon in her mouth and every time I hear people talk about the need to get rid of the death tax, I think about her - because she is exactly the reason why not taxing the death benefits of millionaires is a bad idea. Paris Hilton has never had to work for anything of value in her life, simply because her grandfather is mega rich and will pass that fortune down to his son and granddaughter Paris upon his death.

From what I have seen from the social life of Paris Hilton is a young woman that seems to like men of all ages as long as they are good looking. If Paris does not want to date a black man, then nothing is wrong with that preference. However, this new book makes it sound like Ms. Hilton has stronger feelings than that about black men in general and I just don't believe that report. For the first time in a long time, Paris Hilton is really the victim of words that I believe are untrue. Will wonders never cease.

Elizabeth Taylor Was A Real Movie Star

As the years have gone by, the number of real movie stars have diminished. Elizabeth Taylor was more than an actress, she was a genuine movie star. Elizabeth Taylor starred in some of the biggest motion pictures Hollywood ever made and it was with great sadness that I learned of her death today. In the modern world, there are no more new movie stars being created. Instead, cookie cutter actors and actresses are the norm. New celebrities easily move between movies and television. With that trend, real bona fide movie stars have become a thing of the past.

From "Cleopatra" to "Cat On A Hot Tin Roof" to "Giant", Taylor always brought a interesting character to life on the silver screen. Back when I was young, the exploits of Elizabeth Taylor were shunned by many religious groups. However, when compared to the actions of Hollywood celebrities today - Elizabeth Taylor was mild by comparison. What use to drive so many people nuts about Elizabeth Taylor was the way she married and divorced many times. Back in the 1950 and 1960, divorce was still something that was frowned upon in American society - so she found herself being roundly criticized for not committing to one man for the rest of her life.

Even after Elizabeth Taylor's movie career was over, she did not sit quietly by and fade away. Instead, she found causes to champion like the fight to stop AIDS. Taylor was extremely saddened when Rock Hudson died from AIDS. After his death, she worked tirelessly to bring attention to that disease. During that same period, she became close friends with Michael Jackson. That friendship lasted until his untimely death in 2009. Millions of people all over the world are mourning the death of Elizabeth Taylor today, because she was so much more than just another Hollywood star. May she rest in peace and know that her bright light effected many people during her life on Earth.

Waco Is Baylor Lady Bears Country

Well over eight thousand people were on hand at the Ferrell Center on Tuesday night to watch the Baylor Lady Bears defeat West Virginia. With that victory, Baylor will now head to the "Sweet Sixteen" and hopefully another NCAA national championship. The best thing that ever happened to Baylor University sports was the hiring of head coach Kim Mulkey. That one decision brought the Lady Bears from an unknown group of athletes to prominent national attention.

It's not just the coaching style of Kim Mulkey that is fantastic, but her ability to find great high school basketball players from all over the country and convince them to attend Baylor University that is equally important. I moved to Waco in 1983 and for most of the years between then and now, Baylor University was not known as a real competitor in any sport. The hiring of Kim Mulkey to be the Baylor Lady Bears head coach changed the way Waco residents and people around the country view Baylor athletics and her winning record has encourage a winning attitude in other sports, as well.

All Baylor Lady Bears fans are hoping the "2011 Final Four" competition in Indianapolis ends the same way it did in 2005. There is never a dull moment when coach Kim Mulkey is on the basketball court and her enthusiasm for Baylor and the game of basketball creates a team spirit that was not visible at Baylor before she was hired. I am so proud of the Lady Baylor Bears and I really believe that like 2005, 2011 will also be a year when they win another national championship.

What's Next After The Bombing In Libya?

No one seems to know what is coming next after the USA, UK and France have now finished their bombing runs in Libya. Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi is still in power and from all outward appearance he will remain there for the foreseeable future. In less than one week, President Obama has spent one billion dollars of borrowed money to do something in Libya that few people understand. Even when the first bombs were dropping, President Obama in a speech from Brazil told the American public that our involvement in Libya would be extremely short term. In fact, the President promised everyone that a NATO commander would be taking over operations there within a matter of days.

As this new week began, it become clear than no one in the UK or France really wanted to take over this "no fly zone" operation - so an American naval admiral is still running the show. I'm on record as being completely dismayed by President Obama's decision to start bombing runs over Libya, while at the same time taking a trip to Brazil with his family. It appears that President Obama's heart is not in this military action against Libya, which makes me ask the question why he sent American firepower into that country in the first place? It appears that President Obama does not have a great deal of knowledge when it comes to the history of warfare and that lack of experience is certainly making the United States appear stupid and weak to the rest of the world.

What is next in regards to US military action in Libya? Well, your guess is as good as mine - because the President of the United States is not even in the country right now to answer those tough questions. In President George W. Bush, we found a leader that was too quick to go to war. However, President Obama seems to not even be able to stand the thought of America protecting it's own national interests in nations who wish to do us harm. The United States of America is suffering through a bipolar state at the present time, because we keep electing President's who are from either the far right or left of the political spectrum. Right now, political moderates are becoming an endangered species in Washington.

Mega Millions Lottery March 22 Jackpot Drawing

Tonight, there will be a huge jackpot in the Mega Millions Lottery. The estimated value of the grand prize is $255 million. I bought a ticket on Saturday for this drawing and my ticket says that the cash value option, which I selected, is estimated to be worth $155 million. I know that the odds of winning are greater than being struck by lighting on a clear day, but what the heck. Sometimes it's just fun to play the lottery, because the day of the drawing seems to be a little bit more exciting just knowing that later in the night there is always that one in a million chance that you could win.

Here in Texas, the state claims that most of it's profits from the lottery go toward education. I'm not sure if that is really accurate, but it does cause more people to play - because who does not want to help out kids? The last time the Mega Millions Lottery was this high was back in January, when the grand prize jackpot was around $380 million. That drawing ended up awarding the grand prize to two different people. One of the winners was an elderly couple in Washington State and I still remember the humble words they had to say after cashing in their winning ticket.

Like millions of other people around the United States, I will be watching TV tonight to see what the winning lottery numbers are for March 22, 2011. Just like everyone else, I will likely not win - so I will be returning to work on Wednesday to continue my normal life. There are some people who believe state sponsored lotteries are a bad thing. While I agree that too much of anything can be bad, I personally think that for most people - playing the lottery is an escape from the daily grind of life and it ends up improving their personal spirit.

Will Charlie Sheen Host Late Night Show On Fox?

Actor Charlie Sheen recently met with big shots at Fox Entertainment. Rumor has it that Fox is interested in offering Sheen his own late night talk and interview show. If I were Fox, I would insist that Charlie Sheen be given a complete mental evaluation and for sure I would demand that a morals clause be included in any contract offered to him. I still believe that Charlie Sheen has mental demons that pop up from time to time. While some people believe he is just acting crazy in order to get attention, I believe his own father when he says that Charlie needs some type of help.

It's not clear at this time if Fox Entertainment is really interested in offering Charlie Sheen a show in the late night hours on their network. It could be that Fox suits just wanted to sit down and talk to Charlie in order to see if they can tell if he's really nuts or just acting that way. Unlike a regular job, Hollywood stars are not treated the same way any of us would be - if we acted and said the sames things Charlie did about his previous employer. Any regular American who bad mouthed his or her previous boss, would find it very difficult to attract the attention of any new employer who might want to hire them.

I think Fox Entertainment is just flirting with Charlie Sheen right now. In doing so, they increase their own publicity and they allow Charlie to do the same thing. Charlie Sheen should have a bunch of money in the bank, so there is no reason why he could not get the mental health care that he needs. Any company or person in the entertainment business who gives Charlie Sheen his next job, will have no leg to stand on when and if he decides to go off the reservation and start calling them bad names, as well. If Fox Entertainment is foolish enough to offer Charlie Sheen a late night show on their network, then they have no one to blame but themselves when Charlie blows up on them - just like he did with CBS.

Wrong For NCAA To Put Baylor/Texas A&M In Same Bracket

One of two of the best girls basketball teams in the nation will not be traveling to the Final Four this year, because of the way the NCAA set up their brackets. Either Baylor or Texas A&M will be traveling to the big games, when in reality both of these teams deserve a chance to become national champions. From my point of view in Waco, Texas - it seems like the NCAA always favors teams from the East over southern and west coast competitors. Anyone who has followed college girls basketball in 2011 knows full well that two of the best teams in the nation are Baylor and Texas A&M.

While I disagree with how the NCAA drew up the brackets for the 2011 Final Four, it is certainly more fair than the system they currently use (BSA) when it comes to football. The Baylor Lady Bears have played Texas A&M three times in 2011. Each game between these two teams was decided by only a handful of points, so why didn't the NCAA give both of them a chance to play for a national title? I do not believe that UConn would be treated the same way - if there was another team in their conference who was as good as Texas A&M. That is why I believe the NCAA gives preferential treatment to female college basketball teams located in the eastern part of the United States.

I am a huge Baylor Lady Bears fan and I have made no secret of my desire to see them win another national championship in 2011. However, if Baylor is fortunate enough to win against Texas A&M in the preliminary rounds of the 2011 Final Four competition, that does not mean that A&M has not play well enough to compete in the championship games. If, on the other hand, Texas A&M defeats Baylor in one playoff game - that does not mean Baylor does not deserve a chance to play for a championship, either. In the past 30 years, leaders in the NCAA have become more like an "old boys club" rather than acting in a fair way. I hope things change, soon.

Pre-Trial Motion Denied By Judge Perry (Casey Anthony Trial)

Two critical pieces of evidence for the prosecution in the Casey Anthony murder case will now be allowed at her upcoming trial. The first piece of evidence that Casey Anthony's defense team wanted excluded was her conversation with police at her parents home when her daughter Caylee Marie was first reported missing. The second piece of evidence that will now be allowed at trial are the video tapes that were made in jail of Casey Anthony talking to her parents. Many of those taped visitations between Casey and her parents have already been released to the public under Florida's "Sunshine Law".

As Casey Anthony's trial draws closer, Judge Perry has been ruling more in favor of the prosecution then the defense. This is a far cry from how Judge Strickland ruled in the first few months of pre-trial hearings in this case. When Judge Strickland recused himself from this case because of improper contact with a blogger, all the folks that knew Judge Perry said that future court ruling would be different and those people were absolutely right. As soon as Judge Perry took over the Casey Anthony murder case, the legal tricks put forward by Jose Baez and the rest of her defense team were stopped immediately, along with the endless delays they were successful in winning.

It's a big loss to Casey Anthony's defense team now that the prosecution will be allowed to use her own words against her. However, the biggest loss for Casey Anthony is the admissibility of those jail tapes where she acts like a little selfish brat as she talks to her parents when they visit her in jail. I have watched many of those video jail visits between Casey Anthony and her parents. Those tapes present a terrible image of her. No member of any jury seated to judge Casey Anthony will be able view her the same way after watching her narcissistic communications about her then missing daughter while in jail.

Will Libya Become Obama's Vietnam?

I get nervous anytime a US President talks the way Barack Obama has about the current US military action in Libya. When I was in high school, the United States was involved in a no win war in Vietnam that was not even referred to as a war. I believe the term used at the time was a "police action". Before I was 18-years-old, the Vietnam War had ended, so I was not forced into military service via the draft to go and fight there. No one who served in Vietnam would call that conflict anything but a war, but President's at the time used big sounding words to describe what was really going on there and none of those words were war.

Now a new President of the United States is using big words to describe US military action in Libya and every time he talks about what the US intends to accomplish there, I get a bad feeling in my stomach. President Obama is not calling US military bombing strikes in Libya an act of war, but what else could it be? If some nation was bombing the United States right now, would Americans consider that an act of war? Of course they would and it's wrong for President Obama to try and put a pretty face on something as ugly as war.

The same type of political talk that President Obama is using to describe US military action in Libya, was the same kind of communications our leaders used to get us involved in the biggest non war the US ever fought in Vietnam. At least with President Bush, he called US military action against another country what it really was and that's a war. To me, President Obama is trying to have his cake and eat it too with his limited military involvement in Libya. I am not making a judgment on whether or not it is right for the US military to be attacking Libya. However, it's completely wrong to ask the US military to fight in a conflict where they are not allowed to win. That is exactly what happened in Vietnam decades ago and that is also what could happen again today in Libya.

AT&T Purchase Of T-Mobile Should Not Be Approved

It is not in the best interest of consumers for AT&T to purchase T-Mobile. Why? Because T-Mobile is the only cellular company that is working to keep the prices of Verizon and AT&T in check. AT&T has already talked about increasing prices for their data plans and without T-Mobile in the marketplace to slow those rate hikes - Verizon and AT&T will start drastically increasing the rates of cellular phone service in the United States.

Around the nation there are already thousands of complaints against AT&T before this buyout of T-Mobile has even occurred. Government regulators will be forced to examine - if an AT&T purchase of T-Mobile will reduce competition for cellular service in the United States. If they do their jobs correctly - the government will stop AT&T's take over of T-Mobile.

It's common knowledge that T-Mobile does not offer service in as many locations as AT&T, but they are also less expensive on their monthly cellular plans. I really worry about what will happen to competition in the United States cellular market, if the US government does not stop this purchase. It appears that AT&T's mindset is to buy out their competition, instead of providing an excellent service at a great price to win customers over the old fashion way. I sure hope the government does not allow AT&T to purchase T-Mobile.

Worst Week In Japanese History

It's safe to say that the Japanese people have just suffered through their worst week in modern history. Over all - considering the earthquake, tsunami and radiation exposure - the people there have held up better than most would have. This weekend, even better news started coming from Japan as nuclear experts said they were gaining the upper hand on damaged reactors and that is good news for everyone in the world. Over the past seven days, the world has appeared more unstable than ever as one of the biggest earthquakes in recorded history shook Japan and violence in several nations in the Middle East continued to lead to bloodshed.

The Japanese people are so different from citizens of the United States. As the very world around them was falling in last week, the Japanese people seemed to take everything in stride, rather than demanding that their government fix problems that were beyond their control. I can only image the difference in attitudes - if that same 8.9 magnitude earthquake hit the United States. Rather than trying to make the best of a bad situation and survive, I believe most Americans would be demanding that President Obama fix everything immediately. Don't get me wrong, I love the United States of America - but the attitudes some of our people show during a crisis is not very appealing.

With over 10,000 people dead and others likely to die sooner than normal because of radiation exposure - the Japanese people did not take to the streets and demand that their government fix everything right away. Instead, they went about the business of taking care of their own families as best as they could. In the United States, political leaders have told the public that they can fix their daily problems for so long - that some folks just don't try and do anything for themselves anymore. That is a far cry from how Americans thought back when our nation was young. When it comes to dealing with a natural disaster, all Americans should follow the lead of the citizens of Japan. Even with injury, death and destruction surrounding them everywhere - most did not allow their dignity to be compromised and that is a good thing.

Separating Moammar Gadhafi From His Military

While most members of the mainstream news media have been focusing on the humanitarian crisis in Libya, a few military experts have been looking at the bigger picture of the current bombing campaign. Last night, I watched a military man on CNN talk about what the current air campaign against Libya is really designed to accomplish. His views on this subject are the best I have heard so far from the talking heads that are everywhere on cable news television this weekend. His view is this: the no fly zone in Libya is nothing more than an attempt by nations around the world to get Gadhafi's generals to give up on him and stop following his orders.

In the first few hours of Saturday's bombing campaign against Gadhafi's Libya, there was much more to the logic of those attacks then just protecting the lives of innocent citizens. Instead, the worldwide military attacks against Libya went after the command and control aspects of the Libyan military and those actions put high ranking military officials in mortal danger. The first bombing attacks against Libya were not aimed at forces in the eastern part of the country, but instead at the very leadership structure of Moammar Gadhafi's military itself. I'm sure all those bombs falling within earshot of so many generals in Gadhafi's army did send a wake up call about who is not going to be in change of Libya in the future.

In the first few days of this Libyan civil war, many members of the military switched sides and started to support the rebels who were trying to overthrow Gadhafi. However, as Moammar Gadhafi started to crack down with a heavy fist - most members of his military started to fall back in line. Now with their very lives at risk, high ranking members of the Libyan military will now have to ask themselves - if it is really worth it to stand by Moammar Gadhafi to the end now that the whole world is against him? The closer friendly bombs fall to unfriendly generals in Libya, the sooner those military leaders will switch sides and remove Gadhafi from power themselves.
