Only a few short weeks ago, it appeared that the only major issue in the 2012 race for President was the US economy. However, now that violence has picked up in the Middle East - is it possible that GOP candidate Mitt Romney could win based on his ideas of foreign policy?
As US diplomats were killed in Libya and anti-American protestors attacked US Embassy's in Egypt and other lands, President Barack Obama seemed to lack the type of leadership many Americans voters expect from their commander-in-chief. I still believe most voters will choose the next President more based on their pocketbooks then foreign policy, but the news of the past week definitely benefits Mitt Romney.
Considering the state of the US economy, it's amazing that President Obama is still competitive in his race for reelection. At present, public opinion polls suggest that Obama continues to have a small lead over Romney. Will there be an October surprise in 2012? I think there will be and that surprise will be an attack by Israel on Iran.
The Israeli's have been trying to communicate with President Obama now for several months about their concerns over Iran's promises to destroy the State of Israel. However, Obama seems to be burying his head in the sand when it comes to the real hatred of Iran toward Israel and the United States. Even though President Obama seems to be against an Israeli attack on Iran, such an event would most certainly improve his chances of winning reelection.
