The first presidential debate of 2012 was held last night in Denver, Colorado and according to most TV networks polls - Gov. Mitt Romney was the clear winner. Frankly, if Mitt Romney had of made a big mistake last night - the mainstream media would have taken him to the cleaners and declared their favorite President Barack Obama all but unbeatable in November.
Now, at least the American people have a chance to see what Romney is all about on live TV - rather than having it force fed to them via the national news media. With the exception of Fox News and a few conservative publications, Gov. Romney has been declared a dead candidate for weeks now. It's true that most polls show President Obama leading from a small to a large amount, but politics in the United States are never that simple to predict.
It has been true in the past and it is still true today that when the liberal Washington and New York news media get firmly behind a candidate, the American people start feeling uncomfortable and usually they make them pay for their bias. While it is true that Mitt Romney won a decisive victory against President Obama in their first debate last night, it would be stupid for GOP pundits to now declare that Mitt Romney will definitely be the next President of the United States.
While I am leaning toward voting for Mitt Romney in November, he still has not closed the sale for me. Yes, Romney did a great job debating President Obama last night - but there are still two debates to go and Gov. Romney does have an addiction to sticking his foot in his mouth at just the wrong time. The next few days will be interesting to watch after President Obama's team goes after Romney like never before.
The first presidential debate in Denver last night was nothing more or less than a campaign saving moment for Mitt Romney. It is important to remember that while most die-hard conservatives do not like President Obama at all, millions of other Americans do like him - even though they do not agree with all of his polices. The race for President in 2012 is alive again, because the real Mitt Romney showed up in Denver last night and knocked it out of the ballpark.
