Pros/Cons Of Rising Gas Prices

Anyone who has visited a gas station recently knows that the price for a gallon of gas has risen sharply over the past few months. The last time I remember a gallon of gas costing me over $3 per gallon, was back during the summer of 2008. Ever since that time, gas prices have been going down. So, what are the pros and cons of rising gas prices? The pros of higher gas prices revolve around the alternative fuel possibilities, which can never seem to get off the ground as long as there is a plentiful and cheap supply of crude oil to make gasoline with. Back in 2008, when gas prices were going up by the day, dozens of companies began spending money on fossil fuels alternatives. However, as soon as gas prices started going down again - most of those promising new industries started to fade away.

The cons of rising gas prices involve the reduction of dollars consumers have to spend on stuff to get the US economy moving again. As gas prices rise even higher, the amount of a persons paycheck that ends up in their gas tank increases as well. What that means is that, rather than consumers visiting their local Wal-Mart or other retail outlets to buy goods and services like TV's, radio's and new clothing - instead they usually put off those purchases when gas prices rise, because that one commodity has the effect of scaring the daylights out of an average American worker. Almost always, an increased price for crude oil and with it gasoline prices turn good economies of the world into bad ones in a short period of time.

Another thing on the pros side of rising gas prices is that worldwide air pollution and "Climate Change" get worse as more and more carbon is pumped into the atmosphere. Low gas prices always lead to greater consumption by consumers. I am not a big supporter of Global Warming theories, Climate Change or the US governments ideas to totally change the way America provides for its energy needs. However, I do believe all world citizens have an obligation to do what they can to clean-up after themselves on the land, sea and air. There always have been and always will be pros and cons to rising gas prices. The side most Americans come down on, when it comes to the ups and downs of gas prices, depends on what side of the political spectrum they come from and the current condition of the economy and jobs market.

Pros/Cons Of Company Christmas (Holiday) Parties

Last night, my company held it's annual Christmas Party. Like always, the food was good and it was nice to associate with coworkers in a different environment than the daily 9-5 office setting. It is becoming more uncommon every year for companies to hold Christmas (Holiday) parties, so what are the pros and cons to these annual events? The pros are simple, because in addition to building a team spirit - company Christmas parties are usually very fun to attend. The cons of a company Christmas party usually revolve around the cost of the event and the possible liability the company might be exposed to if an employee has too much to drink at the party, gets behind the wheel of their car and ends up in a traffic accident.

For me, my annual company Christmas party is something I look forward to each year. It's almost like I can finally put a period on the end of the year every time our party is held. Like many other folks, I experience many ups and downs during the year and at Christmas time it is good to put everything into prospective and especially count my many blessings like having a good job with a good company. The past couple of years it has become front page news that millions of other Americans don't have a Christmas Party to attend, because a bad economy has made it tough for them to find a job. My company Christmas Party gives me the chance to be thankful for the job that I do have.

Another thing on the cons side of an annual Christmas Party is the rare chance that someone at the party will have too much to drink, get angry and end up ruining the entire event for everyone else. Thankfully, I have never actually been to a Christmas Party where a fight has broken out - but I can image what a terrible thing that could be. While there are pros and cons to company Christmas parties, I personally believe the pros outweigh the cons - because it gives all employees at least one chance per year to sit down together for a good meal and spirits and have a chance to get to know each other in a more personal way than modern day offices permit.

Pros/Cons Of Hiring Bill Cowher As Dallas Cowboys Head Coach

It was learn late this week that legendary Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Bill Cowher wants to get back into coaching in the NFL. That news is probably not good for Dallas Cowboys interim head coach Jason Garrett, who has taking a terrible football team and turned them into a respectable bunch in only a few short weeks. What are the pros and cons of Jerry Jones hiring Bill Cowher to be the new head football coach of the Dallas Cowboys? The pros overwhelm the cons, because by any measurement, Bill Cowher is one of the best football coaches ever in the NFL. However, if Jerry Jones turns his back on new coach Jason Garrett in favor of Bill Cowher and Cowher fails - the fans might never forgive Jones for that choice.

Fifty three year old Bill Cowher has racked up some winning percentages in the NFL that have been touch by few coaches, ever. Cowher has 149 victories in 15 seasons as a head football coach in the NFL and he has coached in two Superbowls and won one of them. All the cons of Jerry Jones hiring Bill Cowher to be the new coach of the Dallas Cowboys revolve around what such a decision would mean to current head coach Jason Garrett. While I think Bill Cowher could take the Dallas Cowboys to new heights, I also believe Garrett could do the same thing. The biggest nightmare I have is that once Jason Garrett is let go from the Cowboys, he will end up joining another NFC East team and then coach them to victories for the next couple of decades against his former team.

While I like the coaching style of Bill Cowher, I must admit that I think the cons of hiring him as the new Dallas Cowboys head coach - far outweigh the pros of letting Jason Garrett go. When I see what Jason Garrett has done for the Dallas Cowboys in just a few short weeks, I wonder why any NFL owner would want to see that kind of coaching ability go to a competitor? While Jason Garrett is much younger than Bill Cowher, he is not without coaching experience in the NFL. Six weeks ago, I would have said that getting rid of Jason Garrett and hiring Bill Cowher would be a huge positive for the Dallas Cowboys. However, now that I have seen what Garrett is capable of in a short period of time - it would be wrong to let him take his magic to another team.

Pros/Cons Of Zenaida Gonzalez Testimony In Casey Anthony's Trial

It has been reported in recent days that Zenaida Gonzalez's name is on the list of potential witnesses that may be called by the prosecution in Casey Anthony's murder trial next May. Long time followers of the Casey Anthony case will remember that Zenaida Gonzalez was falsely accused by Casey Anthony as the person she left Caylee with when Cindy Anthony called police and reported her granddaughter as missing. So, what are the pros and cons of calling Zenaida Gonzalez as a witness in Casey Anthony's murder trial? To me, the pros far outweigh the cons as long as Gonzalez can hold her emotions in check while on the witness stand. I can only image how I would feel, if I was falsely accused of a crime that I had no knowledge of.

The cons of the prosecution calling Zenaida Gonzalez as a witness involve the potential conflict of interest between Casey Anthony's murder trial and the lawsuit Gonzalez has filed against Anthony in a separate matter. There is no doubt that Jose Baez and his defense team will question Zenaida Gonzalez's truthfulness in the murder trial, because she has a financial interest in seeing Casey Anthony found guilty of murder charges. That said, I believe most members of a jury would be sympathetic to Zenaida Gonzalez when evidence is presented that Casey Anthony tried to frame her for a crime that she did not commit. Casey's lying before she was arrested is going to be put on full display in May of 2011.

While the potential cons of having Zenaida Gonzalez take the stand for the prosecution are obvious, I do think it might be necessary to have her take the witness stand in order to show jurors what kind of sinister heart resides in Casey Anthony's young body. My guess is that when Casey Anthony's trial rolls around next May, Zenaida Gonzalez's testimony will play a key role in helping the jury see through the tears and manipulations of Casey Anthony and her mother Cindy. We all need to remember that while many people have kept up with this case for two years, it is likely that the jury seated to judge Casey Anthony will not be as up on events and evidence as those of us who have follow every little tidbit of information that has been released in this case.

Pros/Cons Of Taking Aspirin To Prevent Cancer

Recently, a new medical study confirmed the link between cancer survival and the daily consumption of a single dose of baby aspirin. Over the years, the evidence of the amazing health benefits of aspirin have been proven time and time again. So what are the pros and cons of taking aspirin daily to prevent and increase your chances of cancer survival? To me, the pros are easy - because not only is aspirin sold over the counter, but it is also one of the cheapest medications on the market today. For many years, we have all known that a single dose of baby aspirin a day can help prevent second heart attacks and some strokes and now the additional pro of aspirin helping to prevent and/or extend the survival rate of cancer is just more icing on the cake.

The biggest thing on the cons side of taking baby aspirin to prevent cancer is that for some people aspirin has terrible side effects. The biggest con to taking aspirin is that for many people even one baby aspirin per day causes stomach upset and even worse bleeding of the stomach and small intestine. There are specially coated forms of aspirin which do control many of these side effects in some people. However, there are thousands of people who start to bleed from their internal organs - even after taking a delayed release form of this amazing medicine. While it is a pro that simple aspirin can prevent some types of cancer, it's a con when so many people cannot take it because of adverse physical reactions.

I told a friend once that Americans should be glad that aspirin was discovered hundreds of years ago, because if it were developed today - it would be one of the most expensive prescription medication on the Earth. The good news is that dozen of research studies around the world all say the same thing about the benefits of aspirin and if large companies in the US want to make money off the growing praise of this wonder medicine - they should develop drugs that will lesson the side effects for those people who cannot take aspirin at this time. There are two things I take everyday without fail. One is Vitamin D and the other is a simple dose of baby aspirin.

Pros/Cons Of Income Flat Tax

Now that President Obama and GOP leaders in the Congress have reached an agreement on continuing the Bush tax cuts and extending unemployment benefit, the US federal deficit will continue to grow over the next year and at some point a flat tax may be needed to help payoff the trillions of dollars of debt that has been rung up by politicians for decades. What are the pros and cons of a "flat tax" rate for all Americans? The pros are the simplest to explain, because unlike the current tax system we have today - a flat tax would be devoid of tax loopholes and write offs in favor of all Americans paying the same percentage of tax on the dollars that they earn. Another thing on the pros side of the US adopting a flat tax rate would be the ease of the system.

The cons of the US going to a flat tax systems mainly effect ideologues on the right and left, who love to social engineer people in the USA to their way of thinking. Liberals want to use the current US tax code to push Climate Change issues, while conservatives want to use it for business friendly ideas. The biggest thing on the cons side to a US based flat tax would be that it would put hundreds of thousands of people out of work almost immediately. From our local tax accountants, to most IRS employees, the need for their services would disappear - if a flat tax really happened in the United States.

The current US tax system is not complicated by accident, in the same way laws are written in a way a none lawyer cannot comprehend. The reason the US tax code is complicated is to not only help politicians push their ideology on the rest of us, but it is also purposely kept complicated in order to preserve the jobs of some pretty influential people. While the pros and cons of a US federal government flat tax will continue to be debated from time to time, in reality I see no chance whatsoever that Congress and the President will want to change the current system - which enables them to control so much of the decision making of everyday Americans.

Pros/Cons Of Facebook Privacy Policy

Sunday night, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg appeared on "60 Minutes". I really enjoyed watching that interview and it was clear to me at the end that he had matured 10 years in the past two running his multi-billion dollar company. Like millions of other people around the world, I visit the social network "Facebook" on a daily basis. However, like most other folks I do worry about how "Facebook" and their affiliated companies use the personal information they obtain from the visits of over 500 million people around the world. So, what are the pros and cons to the Facebook Privacy Policy and do the concerns of millions of people who they collect personal information on threaten the privacy of their visitors and members?

The pros of Facebook's Privacy Policy are that any member of their social network has the right to opt-out of letting any of their personal information becoming public. However, most people who use Facebook do not pay that much attention to their own privacy settings and sometimes unknowingly allow information they do not want to become public to do so. So is it the fault of Facebook that their users do not take a proactive approach to their own privacy or is it the fault of the user? There resides the biggest question around who should police the Internet and social websites like Facebook. Should it be the users responsibility to protect themselves or is that job best left to Facebook and eventually governments around the world?

The biggest thing on the cons side of Facebook's Privacy Policy is that too many important decisions, which should be made on an opt-in basis, are instead place as an opt-out for their users. Since most people do not think that much about their own privacy until it is compromised or stolen - most of Facebook's new and modern applications should all require each user to opt-in to the gathering of consumers information, instead of forcing the user to opt-out. The pros and cons of Facebook and it's privacy policy are too numerous to write about in this small blog post. However - the pros of using the social network Facebook to keep up with family and friends, at present, far outweigh the cons - if just a small amount of common sense is utilized by users and visitors to their website.

Pros/Cons Of IRA & 401K Gold Accounts

Few investments have been more volatile over the decades than Gold. In recent years, the price of an ounce of Gold has soared to astronomical levels and some people have rushed to sell traditional stock investments and flood their IRA and 401K accounts with Gold. So, what are the pros and cons of investing in raw Gold as part of an IRA and 401K account? The pros side consist of following the latest trend (rising Gold prices) and riding that trend to a big payday come retirement time. However, as many folks can already attest to - riding former financial trends in the NASDAQ and the real estate market caused some Americans to put off retirement forever. Some experts recommend only a 15% investment in Gold as part of a balanced retirement account.

The cons of investing in Gold lead with the fact the all precious metals are always volatile in price, which mean Gold prices could drop like a rock at any time. However, there is just as good of a chance that Gold could double in price over the next 12 months - as well. The biggest thing on the cons side to owning raw Gold or Gold based mutual funds is that there is little to no stability in the pricing of the markets. While some gambler type of personalities love the way Gold prices rise and fall on a daily basis, the average investor does not have the temperament to ride out all of that volatility, especially in their retirement accounts. That is why most financial experts recommend only a small percent of retirement dollars be invested in Gold.

While I tend to see more cons than pros when it comes to investing in Gold in a 401K or IRA account, I do believe there is a better than 50/50 chance that Gold will continue to rise in the near future. The reason I think this way is because the US government has not shown any willingness to tackle the runaway deficits that are ruining the country. It will always be easier for politicians to continue to borrow money that they don't have - than to tell the voters back home they can't have something they want. Nothing on Earth increases the price of Gold faster than the current overspending by governments around the world. Outside of an IRA or 401K account, it is probably wise to invest some money in Gold - unless you believe Washington politicians are really serious amount paying down our huge national debt.

Pros/Cons Of Extending Unemployment Benefits

There is news this weekend that Democrats in Congress are insisting that a one year extension of long term unemployment benefits be included in proposed legislation to continue the Bush tax cuts for everyone. So what are the pros and cons of extending long term unemployment benefits? The pros side is pretty easy to explain, because anyone that has been out of work for two years understands just how scary it would be to know that the one lifeline you have to paying your bills and feeding your family is about to go away. Also, extending long term unemployment benefits has a positive effect on the US economy because unlike the rich, people who are on unemployment will spend all of their check quickly and that money is put back into the economy immediately.

The cons to extending unemployment benefits are more complicated and more politically driven by those on the extreme left and right of the political spectrum. Many conservatives believe that it is a mistake to continue unemployment benefits for too long, because it encourages people to stay unemployed instead of accepting employment in another field or with a lower annual income. There are also cons to the mental health and self esteem of a person who goes many years without a full-time job. Conservatives argue that long term unemployment will eventually lead to another problem that effected Americans in the 1970's and that problem involved some people staying on government welfare for decades.

Another aspect to whether or not it is a wise use of taxpayer money to extend unemployment benefits past two years is that the US government does not really have any of their own money to pay these benefits with. Instead, just like so many other US federal government programs - the US government will borrow the needed money from other nations and wealthy individuals around the world and further add to an ever growing US federal debt. While there are pros and cons to extending unemployment benefits, I believe that it would be wrong to cut off millions of Americans from their unemployment benefits during a recession and worst of all to do it during the holiday season. Unlike most of the waste already infesting Washington D.C., at least with unemployment benefits we know where the money is going and we know that money will be spent on goods and services that will help keep our economy from getting any worse.

Pros/Cons Of Fox News Channel

The most popular news channel on cable television today is the Fox News Channel. When compared to it's competition of CNN and MSNBC, Fox News Channel totally dominates it's competitors in the ratings during all hours of the day and night. So, what are the pros and cons of the Fox News Channel and does the network live up to it's slogan of "Fair & Balanced" news coverage? The pros of Fox News Channel involve a mix of right wing political news coverage that is carefully mixed with stories of a personal and sensational nature. It is not uncommon for the Fox News Channel to lead with a hard news story and then within minutes be discussing some sensational news item no one else in the news business is covering.

Another thing on the pros side of the Fox News Channel is that all of their anchors are easy on the eyes when it comes to physical appearance. Sometimes when I am watching the Fox New Channel and their good looking anchors are discussing a terrible news event, my mind remembers an old song from Don Henley called "Dirty Laundry". One line from that hit song about a "bubble headed bleach blonde coming on at 5 and talking about a plane crash with a gleam in her eye", does sometimes seem to fit the way the Fox News Channel coverages some aspects of the news. While there are pros to the Fox News Channel there are plenty of cons, as well.

The biggest thing on the cons side of the Fox News Channel is the way they view all political events in Washington D.C. from a conservative point of view. I consider myself a right of center Republican, but on some of the political stories of the day - the Fox News Channel seems even further to the right than Rush Limbaugh. Some peole say that the Fox News Channel is only covering national news in a conservative way, because much of the mainstream media has a liberal bias to their coverage. I would have to agree with that thinking. However, the Fox News Channel is no longer just another cable news network - when you consider that more people tuned into their election coverage in November than the other three broadcast networks combined, at times. At this time, there are pros and cons to the Fox News Channel - but in my view, the pros far outweigh the cons.

Pros/Cons Of Playing Farmville

Until recently, I was not a regular Internet game player. However, a couple of coworkers finally convinced me to give Farmville a try and now I play that game everyday. While there are pros and cons to Farmville, for me the pros far outweigh the cons - because I enjoy the competition of the game. Unlike most people who play Farmville, I really did grow up on a farm when I was a kid. However, unlike Farmville - real farmers face long hard days and low wages for very hard work. The biggest thing on the cons side of playing Farmville is that as your farm grows larger, the amount time needed to take care of your land and farm animal continues to grow longer.

Six months ago, if someone told me that I would enjoy an Internet game like Farmville so much that I would look forward to getting off work to "harvest my crops" - I would have called them crazy. On a funny note, I do think my wife thinks I have gone nuts for Farmville - because I always act excited when it is time to plant a new field of seeds or when my chickens are ready for harvest. Like most newcomers to Farmville, when I first started playing the game - I tried to buy and expand my farm at every opportunity. However, now I think the best way to advance via Farmville's XP system - is to keep your farm at a moderate size and maximize your income using common sense math skills.

Another thing on the cons side of playing Farmville is that the game is very addictive. It is important to set aside a certain amount of time each day for the game and then stay away until the next day. When I first started playing Farmville, it became clear to me within a matter of weeks - that I was spending more and more time playing the game and less and less time doing other things in my spare time that I enjoyed. Just like everything in life, the best things are enjoyed in moderation. So, don't let the fun of playing Farmville become an obsession. Instead, play Farmville in moderation and enjoy the game for many years to come.

Pros/Cons Of Prosecuting Julian Assange

While the US Justice Department debates the wisdom of filing criminal charges against Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, Sweden has filed an arrest warrant for him for an alleged rape in that country. That arrest warrant for Assange via Interpol will make it even more difficult for him to travel between counties. What are the pros and cons of Sweden or for that matter the United States of America arresting Julian Assange? The charges facing Assange in Sweden have nothing and everything to do with the mischief he has been up to on the world stage via his Wikileaks website in recent months. While there are many supporters of Julian Assange around the world, I do not count myself as one of them. To me, Mr. Assange is on a one man mission to promote himself at the expense of the military, politicians and soon at least one large bank in the United States.

So what are the pros and cons of the United States arresting Julian Assange on espionage charges? The biggest thing on the pros side is that Assange would be removed as a free man to stick his finger of rebellion in the face of nations around the world via his access to classified secrets that have been leaked to him. However, the cons of the US arresting Julian Assange and putting him on trial might be even bigger than the initial good feeling many people would experience once he is finally behind bars. Throughout history, people like Assange have popped onto the public radar and promoted themselves at the expense of others, like military personnel serving in Afghanistan. The last thing the United States of America and other nations around the world want to do is turn Julian Assange into a hero, which is is not.

While the pros of arresting Julian Assange might seem like a good idea in the short run, in the long run it would be a disaster for any nation who puts him on trial. Rightly or wrongly, most of the time when a character like Julian Assange makes the choice to take on the governments of the world, old age is something they do not live long enough to experience. The only thing the governments of the world can do to finally put a stop to Julian Assange's actions, is to discredit him in a way that people, newspapers and the media stop paying attention to what he has to say. Most of the time, people obsessed with personal self promotion like Julian Assange - will eventually be brought down by their own arrogance of narcissistic greatness.

Pros/Cons Of Increasing Taxes On The Rich

Few things in life will bring as much heated debate in the United States as the question of whether or not the taxes of the rich should be increased or not. What are the pros and cons to increasing the taxes of millionaires and billionaires? The answer to that question depends mainly on your political point of view more than anything else. The pros to raising taxes on the rich involve raising tax revenue from the people who have the best ability to pay. The cons of raising the taxes of the rich revolve around the fact that rich people in the United States create the most new jobs and what is need right now more than anything else in the US is new job creation.

For a bean counter, with a narrow view of the world of finance, it makes perfect sense to tax the daylights out of the rich in order to not only balance the US budget, but to also fund additional federal programs. To liberals and other socialist leaning Americans, most of what is wrong with this country could be cured simply be increasing the taxes on the richest among us. For die-hard conservatives, the idea of taxing the richest Americans is nothing less than biting the hand that fuels the US economy. To conservative leaning Americans, the biggest thing on the cons side of increasing the taxes of the rich - is that by doing so the largest potential job creators in that nation will choose to just write huge checks to the US federal government - instead of putting that same money back into expanding their businesses and creating new jobs.

While I personal lean right politically, I do believe that some kind of middle ground must be found between the conservative view that no taxes should ever be raised on anyone and the liberal view that no limit should be placed on increasing the taxes on rich Americans. There are pros and cons to any US federal government tax increase and for me as long as the President and Congress do not put into place massive government spending cuts, no new taxes for anyone should be put on the table. No one group of Americans - rich, middle class or poor should escape the financial pain that will be necessary to clean up the mess our elected representatives have created on our behalf for decades. While there are pros and cons to increasing taxes on the rich, all Americans must be willing to step up and accept their part of fixing this huge financial problem.

Pros/Cons Of Federal Government Pay Freeze

At least part of the message sent by taxpayers in the last election has been received by President Barack Obama. Yesterday, the President put a freeze on increases in the pay of all federal employees with the exception of people in the military. So, what are the pros and cons of a federal government pay freeze and will this one step help reduce the expanding deficit? The simple answer is yes, but the larger answer is that it only amounts to a drop in the bucket when the trillions of dollars it current takes to pay all the bills racked up by the US federal government are put on the table. To me, it's a huge thing on the pros side that President Obama is doing something to address the concern of average Americans that the US federal governments spending habits need to be slowed down. However, President Obama needs to do much more - if this country is to ever see "black ink" on our balance sheet again.

The cons of a federal government pay freeze are small, but none the less they will have a negative impact on the US economy. It's important to remember that folks who work for the US federal government are Americans too and when any American finds their take home pay not going up for a period of time - that prospect will cause consumers to not spend their money and in doing so further delay an economic recovery. The part of the United States that will feel the biggest impact of a federal pay freeze will be the Washington D.C., Maryland and Virginia areas. One thing to remember about President Obama's decision to freeze the pay of federal employees is that decision does not include a hiring freeze - so hundreds and potentially thousands of new federal government employees could be hired, even though no current federal employees will be getting a raise.

The biggest thing on the pros side of freezing the pay of US federal employees is that President Obama is doing something to slow down the rate of government spending. However, the biggest thing on the cons side to a federal government pay freeze is that he has left a huge loophole in his decision, which allows him to hire many more employees that could render his pay freeze idea moot - when exposed to the light of day. The real cuts that are needed to put the United States back on a sound financial footing are things that no politician is willing to touch. Big cuts in Medicare, Social Security and the defense budget must be done in order to give more than lip service to the problems a greedy public and their politicians have used as a selfish crutch for far too long.

Pros/Cons Of Taxing Health Insurance

Most employed Americans have some type of health insurance benefit where they work. The premiums for those health insurance benefits are usually paid by employers and are not considered as taxable income to the employee. President Obama's task force on finding ways to reduce the massive federal government deficit have recently suggested that health insurance premiums paid by an employer, be taxable income to employees in the future. What are the pros and cons of the federal government taxing the group health insurance benefits of all Americans?

The pros are simple, harsh and probably needed. The US federal government is drowning in red ink because the Congress and President are spending more money than they take in through taxation. For the US government to regain control of a massive and expanding national debt, new ways of raising revenue must be a part of that overall goal. The other big thing on the pros side of taxing employer based health insurance benefits is that it will force employees to shop around for better prices for their health care insurance. Right now, employees who receive free health care where they work - do not have any incentive to buy health insurance on their own, which has caused the US health care system to become more of a monopoly type of system than one where competition and free enterprise rule the day.

The cons of taxing health insurance benefits are that changing a system, which has been in place for decades will cause short term pain as more money is taken out in taxes from an employees paycheck. Most Republicans will highlight the pros of taxing health insurance benefits, while their democratic counterparts will stress the cons. While I usually lean right on political issues, when it comes to taxing employer based health insurance premiums - I come down on the side of the Democrats. I believe that until the US federal government begins to cut spending in a meaningful way, no new taxes should be imposed on the American people. Simply put, cut spending first and then more Americans will be open to increasing taxes to help balance the federal budget.

Pros/Cons Of Extending Bush-Era Tax Cuts

The US Congress has returned to Washington for their lame-duck session and the number one issue on the agenda is whether or not to extend the Bush-era tax cuts, which will expire at the end of the year. What are the pros and cons of extending these tax cuts and is it a good idea to extend tax cuts to all income individuals - including the super rich? The biggest thing on the pros side of extending President Bush's tax cuts to everyone is that many of the people included as rich in the US tax code system, include small business owners - who create most of the new jobs in this country. Simply put, it would be a huge mistake to raise the taxes of job creators at this point in time - since the added money they would pay in taxes would be taken by the government, instead of being invested in the hiring new employees.

The biggest issue on the cons side of extending the Bush-era tax cuts to everyone is the massive federal deficit that has grown "big time" over the past ten years. Both Republicans and Democrats alike understand that the days of massive US government deficits must come to an end, but while the GOP believes the solution to this problem involves massive cuts in government spending - most Democrats believe the solution resides in higher tax rates for the rich. That is why it is entirely possible that the 2010 lame-duck session of Congress might not reach an agreement on extending the Bush-era tax cuts, which will cause the taxes of every American to go up on January 1st, 2011. Washington politicians have known for 10 years that these tax cuts were expiring at the end of 2010, but instead of getting ahead of the issue - they just ignored the problem until the last possible minute.

When President George W. Bush's tax cuts went into effect, the US economy was in recession and they did have the effect of playing a small role in helping put Americans back to work. If the US Congress allows those tax cuts to expire, just as the economy is starting to recover and that decision pushes the United States back into a recession - it could be many years before the America people will see good financial times again. In Washington D.C., it has always been easier for politicians to raise taxes than to cut them. While there are pros and cons to extending the Bush-era tax cuts, I believe the pros outweigh the cons because there is so much wasteful government spending that needs to be cut first - before the American people are asked to sacrifice even more of their hard-earned money to the US federal government.

Pros/Cons Of Taking Cancer Treatments

So much has changed in the world of cancer treatments, but for millions of people - the cancer treatments of the past cause them to pick death, instead of life saving treatments in the present. So, what are the pros and cons of taking cancer treatments today and will someone you love decided to die - instead of being subjected to treatments that might make them sick in the short term - but extend their life for extra months or years? Back in 2001, my father was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer after being misdiagnosed for months as suffering from a stomach ulcer. The minute the doctor used the "C" word (cancer), my father decided that his life was over and refused any type of treatment for his condition.

Then this year, my mother-in-law was diagnosed with Large Cell Lymphoma and even when her doctors told her that she had a 80% or better chance for a complete cure - she decided that she would rather die than take the treatments that were offered to her. Both my father and mother-in-law had one thing in common and that was that they both had experienced a loved one get cancer at an early age, who also choose treatment - but died quickly none the less. The tremendous cons of old style cancer treatments have brainwashed a generation of people into not believing doctors and even worse not accepting that cancer treatments are much more successful today than in decades past.

So what are the pros and cons to taking cancer treatments? I really believe it has more to do with the type of cancer involved than anything else. The type of cancer my father had (Pancreatic Cancer) is one of the least curable forms of the disease. However, the Large Cell Lymphoma my mother-in-law had - is a very curable form of cancer for people at almost any age. My mother-in-law died in August and I still wonder to this day why she made the choice to die, instead of choosing life with an 80% plus cure rate? While there are pros and cons to taking cancer treatments, I have learned that it is impossible to change a stubborn mind into accepting the realities of today - when their mind can only remember the terrible aspects of cancer treatment in the past.

Pros/Cons Of WikiLeaks Release Of Classified Information

The website WikiLeaks has been up to their old tricks of releasing classified US government information again this weekend and sadly - the Obama administration has done little to stop this one man wrecking crew from jeopardizing the very security of the United States. There are pros to the release of classified information to the public, especially if the government of the United States is breaking the law. However, the main purpose of WikiLeaks is to damage the United States and as far as I am concerned they are just as much an enemy of the US as unknown terrorists living abroad.

Up until this weekend, most of the damage caused by WikiLeaks was to the US government and to the safety of hundreds of thousands of US soldiers serving overseas. However, with the release of "State Department" private cables this weekend - WikiLeaks has proven itself not only a threat to the United States of America, but to nations around the world as well. In the world of pros and cons, within the past 48 hours - WikiLeaks has put a huge "cons" on it's forehead and before long not only will this rouge website be taken down forever, but it's founder will be sitting in a jail cell somewhere for the rest of his life. WikiLeaks has done real damage to the US and it's time for President Obama to do something about it.

Yes, there are pros to the release of classified information when the US government has been up to no good. However, the releases of classified data from WikiLeaks to date has not shown massive illegal activity by the US government - but instead the leaks are designed to self promote the ego of it's founder. The first release of classified information from WikiLeaks could be chalked up to a concerned world citizen who just wanted to stop a war he does not agree with. However, the release of US State Department cables that have nothing to do with that war - show the real and sinister intent of the website WikiLeaks.

Political Self Destruction Of The Tea Party Began This Weekend

I knew it was just a matter of time before extremist in the GOP worked their magic on the leadership of the "Tea Party" and transformed it into just another arm of the GOP. When the "Tea Party" organized through the grass roots to win the "House Of Representatives" in 2010, their main goal was to force the government to quit spending so much money and live within it's means. Friday morning, I woke up to the news that several national "Tea Party" leaders now want to expand their grass roots movement to include the fight against illegal immigration and social issues like banning abortion.

Sadly, millions of Americans will now find that the GOP has morph the "Tea Party" into nothing more than a clone of it's national party platform. In 2010, the American people did not vote to embrace the Republican Party, but instead they voted for the GOP - because they were the only alternative to President Obama and Nancy Pelosi. Make no mistake, the GOP does not want to cut overspending by the US government anymore than the Democrats do and in two years the American people will once again be fed up with business as usual in Washington. I have believed for a long time that so called big issues championed by the GOP like immigration reform and the anti-abortion movement were created only to give rank and file Republicans something to be angry about other than the out-of-control spending of Washington politicians.

Now that the leaders of some of the largest "Tea Party" movements in the country want to move away from their primary mission of cutting government spending, the movement will soon disappear into a small part of the massive GOP tent. While issues of immigration reform and abortion are important, in the past they have been used to do nothing more than create fear in the electorate, while at the same time changing nothing in the overall operation of the government. The "Tea Party" of 2010 had one simple message and that was for Washington to clean up it's act and live within it's means. Now that the "Tea Party" is being fully merged into the GOP, look for party leaders to focus less on government spending and more of their time trying to get the public angry about abortion and immigration. If they are successful, politicians in Washington can go back to spending like there is no tomorrow with less backlash from the voters in future elections.

Do Casey Anthony's Attorneys Have The Cart Ahead Of The Horse?

Everyday, it seems like new motions are filed with the court in Orlando, Florida by Casey Anthony's defense team. One of the latest of those motions was filed recently by Ann Finnell, a new member of the group of attorneys who represent her. Finnell, is an expert in the penalty phase of murder trials. Her concern is that when and if Casey Anthony is convicted of murder, that the testimony given by witnesses might not be honest and truthful - because the people involved might fear a negative reaction from the public, if they testify against giving Casey Anthony the death penalty.

When I first read this filing by Ann Finnell, I was again shocked by how much time and effort is being put into the Casey Anthony defense - just to prevent her from receiving the death penalty. Casey Anthony's murder trial will not even take place for many more months, but at least one member of her defense team is already worried about how a jury might treat her after she is found guilty of murdering her daughter, Caylee. I know it's a catch 22 for defense attorneys when representing a clearly guilty client like Casey Anthony, but for regular folks - any time a defense team starts focusing on the penalty phase of a trial, before their client is found guilty - it does raise red flags with the public.

I know that Ann Finnell is just doing her job, but sometimes that job does more to convict your client in the first place - than to save her from a potential death sentence after the fact. Frankly, I don't think Finnell's motion will make any real difference in either Casey Anthony's murder trial or with the follow up deliberations by a jury on whether or not she receives the death penalty or spends the rest of her life in prison. From my own layman's point of view, I am more than ready for Casey Anthony to stand trial for murdering her daughter Caylee and when that trial eventually takes place - there is no way she will ever walk the face of this Earth a free woman, again.

Pros/Cons Of New War Between North & South Korea

In recent days, the likelihood of a new war between North and South Korea has increased as North Korea fired mortar shells into the South. Before I was born, there was a bloody war that really never ended between North and South Korea. Recently, it appears that the old feelings of distrust between those two nations are on the rise again and that is not a good thing for the world at large. So, what are the pros and cons of a new war breaking out between North and South Korea? Some people might think that there are never any pros to a war, but history has proven that type of thinking is not correct.

On the pros side of a new war breaking out between North and South Korea is the distinct possibility that once and for all the totalitarian government of North Korea could fall and in doing so give the millions of citizens of that nation a chance to finally live free. There are few places on the Earth today where citizens are treated with less respect and dignity by their government as in North Korea. For decades, one family has ruled that country and proclaimed themselves as God's - while at the same time literally starving the masses of the people who call North Korea home. When the nation of North Korea is mentioned, my mind immediately thinks of a country where the art of bullying has been taking to a massive extreme.

On the cons side of a new war breaking out between North and South Korea is the high toll in loss of life a new conflict between these two nations would create. When and if North and South Korea go to war again, the loss of life among the civilian population of both nations would be extremely high. Another huge thing on the cons side of a new war in Korea would be the real possibility that a threatened North would decided to use a nuclear weapon against the South and in doing so might also create the ground work for a new world war that could cost millions of lives. No matter what the pros and cons are of a new war between North and South Korea, it is certain that eventually military action will be required to take out the immoral government of the North, because it appears unlikely that the citizens there have the strength or the determination to take care of this problem themselves.

Pros/Cons Of Sarah Palin For President

Few people in American political life today have such a diverse amount of public reaction as does Sarah Palin. There are people on the political right that believe she is nothing less than the second coming of Christ, while people on the left - laugh at her as nothing more than a bimbo with good hair and a million dollar smile. There are pros and cons of Sarah Palin running for President in 2012, so I thought I would write about a few of them in this blog post. While there are pros and cons to Sarah Palin running for President in 2012, there is no doubt that she has taken what Senator John McCain gave her in 2008 and parlayed it into millions of dollars of profit for herself and family.

The biggest thing on the pros side of Sarah Palin running for President of the United States in 2012 is the amount of anger that prospect bestows on extreme liberals in the media. While I agree with their opinion that Sarah Palin is not yet ready for prime-time as the Republican nominee for President, their smug attitudes and condescending language about her makes me want to laugh at their elitism. Another reason on the pros side of Sarah Palin running for President is that her campaigning attitude reminds me of the late President Ronald Reagan back in the mid 1970's when he was trying to win the GOP nomination against Gerald Ford.

The biggest thing on the cons side of Sarah Palin running for President in 2012 is the crazy idea that she might actually win the GOP nomination and then go down to a devastating defeat against President Barack Obama when he runs for reelection. Unlike many people, I believe the present day "Tea Party" movement in the United States is a good thing - but I also believe that the wing nuts on the extreme right will find a way to take over this grass roots movement within the next two years and turn it into something that it is not today. While I personally like Sarah Palin and I really enjoy the way she makes liberals squirm - the idea of Sarah Palin as President of the United States is something I cannot presently imagine or accept.

Bryan McCann Is The Man (Dallas Cowboys Football)

Two short weeks ago, almost everyone had given up any hope that the Dallas Cowboys might have a decent year. However, thanks to rookie Bryan McCann - there has been new blood interjected into a team filled with harden veterans. Just like in everyday life, sometimes new blood must be put into play to propel a business or in this case a professional football team into the future. Within the past couple of weeks, I have watched Bryan McCann make unbelievable plays for the Dallas Cowboys and in doing so he has had the effect of taking a team of downtrodden losers and turned them into a competitive football team.

Frankly, I just like to watch Bryan McCann run with the football - because when he does there is always a chance that something amazing will happen. Sometimes McCann catches an interception and runs it back almost 100 yards for a touchdown then at other times he takes a mistake made by an opponent and turns it into a touchdown for the Dallas Cowboys. In 2010, the biggest thing that has turned around the fortunes of the Dallas Cowboys has been the effort of rookies. Even the Dallas Cowboys new head coach is a rookie in his position and it's clear to me that the one thing rookies always seem to bring to the NFL is a spirit to win that is often times lost on war weary veteran players.

Just when I thought all was lost for the Dallas Cowboys in 2010, owner Jerry Jones did something he did not want to do in firing Wade Phillips and replacing him with Jason Garrett. That move turned out to be a winner so far, because the Dallas Cowboys have won more football games in the past two weeks than they had won in the entire first half of the season. I think it's time for Jerry Jones to open up his checkbook and give Bryan McCann a huge raise, because he deserves it. McCann has created the on field excitement that new head coach Jason Garrett wanted to provide the team and just like other unknown rookie players of the past - Bryan McCann might turn into diamond in future years with the Dallas Cowboys.

Will Airport Body Scanners/TSA Groping Slow Holiday Travel?

Over the next four weeks, tens of millions of Americans will be showing up at airports around the nation to fly home for the holidays. Sadly, new government policies being implemented by the TSA are going to make worse what is already a slow time waiting in airports just to board a flight. Is all of this extra security in US airports really necessary or has the government gone nuts by increasing its control of the citizens of the United States?

It's clear that the US government is not doing a good job at preventing another 911 type of attack, simply because all of the safety procedures being implemented in airports around the nation are reactionary instead of pro-active. If the US government continues to use technology based on the last terrorist attack, then the sky is the limit when it comes to what types of new invasive techniques will be used in the future. Sorry to be gross, but what if the next terrorist attacks have suicide bombers who implant explosives inside their bodies? Will the US government shortly thereafter order MRI machines into airports to work along side everything else?

The truth is that the best way to catch terrorists before they make an attack is through the use of profiling in airports. The US has a bad history when it comes to the use of profiling and that bad taste has caused the US government to come down on the side of technology that is not effect, instead of using profiling which has been proven very effective in nations all over the world. The 2010 holiday travel season is going to be horrible for millions of Americans as they make their way home to friends and family. To make matters worse - the current security being practiced in airports around the country are only giving the illusion of safety - instead of providing the real thing.

Pros/Cons Of Vitamin D Supplements

Many years ago, I started taking an extra Vitamin D supplement as part of my daily diet. At first, I could not take more than 500-1000 IU of vitamin D daily - because I just did not feel right or well if I took more. However, over time - my body got use to taking higher doses of Vitamin D and at present I am supplementing with a single 5000 IU pill each day. I did not start taking Vitamin D for no reason at all, but instead - after watching family members die horrible deaths from cancer over the years, I decided to try and do something proactive to hopefully improve my odds at suffering the same fate.

Like with everything else in life, there are pros and cons to taking a high dose Vitamin D supplement each day. On the pros side, there are dozens of studies that show that folks with high levels of Vitamin D in their bloodstream are less likely to suffer some of the most common forms of cancer such as breast and prostate than people who have low Vitamin D concentrations. Another thing on the pros side of taking a daily Vitamin D supplement is that in it's pure form after kidney metabolism, Vitamin D is converted into a powerful hormone that the body seems to need in abundance. This pure and powerful form of Vitamin D not only helps the body's immune system fight sickness and disease - but it also seem to have a calming effect on stress and mood as well.

On the cons side of taking a daily Vitamin D supplement there are those nagging questions in the back of the mind that cause some people to ask - if they are overdosing themselves on too much of a good thing? With low levels of Vitamin D supplementation recommended at the 400-1000 IU level by the US government, there are always going to be some concerns that taking a fat soluble vitamin like D will eventually lead to a fatal overdose. It's pretty clear from new and old research that those concerns are not valid and it would help save many lives each year - if the US and other federal governments around the world - got with the program and increased the recommended daily level of Vitamin D intake.

Pros/Cons Of Pre-Arranged Funerals

For decades, funeral homes have offered a service they call pre-arranged funerals. There are pros and cons to buying such a service though. For many Americans, the idea of preparing for their final expenses before their death is of huge benefit - because they do not wish to saddle their family with funeral costs between 5,000 and 10,000 dollars at their death. However, some experts in this field have warned consumers against using pre-arranged funeral plans - because there is always a possibility that the funeral home in charge of holding the money until it is needed could go out-of-business.

The biggest thing on the pros side of pre-arranged funerals is the fact that when a person finally does die, the cost of a funeral that was not pre-arranged will most certainly be higher than at the time it was purchased. For people dealing with a long established funeral home that has been in business for decades, purchasing a pre-arranged funeral plan might make a lot of sense - especially if death is not expected quickly. People have always said correctly, that there are only two certainties in life and those are death and taxes - so if you prepare for your yearly tax bill, you should also prepare for your death expenses as well.

As I said earlier, the biggest thing on the cons side to pre-arranged funerals is the possibility that a funeral home could go out of business and take your money with that failure. For me, the cons far out weight the pros in giving thousands of dollars to a funeral home - years before death. Yes, on paper, the idea of pre-arranged funerals might make a lot of sense - but it makes even more sense to either purchases life insurance that will handled all of your funeral expenses or even better - if death is not expected within the next few years, to start a savings account with extra money each month that can be drawn upon when death finally arrives.

Pros/Cons Of Las Vegas Weddings

Well over 100,000 couples per year decided to get married in Las Vegas, Nevada. Many years ago, my wife and I were one of those couples and we have never regretted that decision. That said, there are pros and cons to Las Vegas weddings and I thought I would share with you at least a few of them I know of. There are hundreds of reasons why men and women travel from all over the United States to get married in Las Vegas. High on the list of those reasons is "no waiting period" after a marriage license is issued until the ceremony takes place. In some states like Texas, a couple must wait several days after buying a marriage license before they can actually get married.

The biggest thing on the pros side of getting married in Las Vegas is that the entire city is custom made for having a good time and celebrating the happy occasion. Every large hotel in Las Vegas and hundreds of more small church chapels are eager to take the money of both young and old couples alike who wish to tie the knock in that city. Frankly, it is easier to get married in Las Vegas and have a ready made location for the ceremony, reception and honeymoon than in any other city in the world. While many people only view Las Vegas as a mecca for gambling, in reality there is more diverse entertainment per square mile available in Las Vegas than anywhere else.

Now for the cons of getting married in Las Vegas. The biggest con I can think of is for couples who fly into the city from hundreds or thousands of miles away, without the enjoyment of sharing the experience with their friends and family. While many upper income couples take the whole family along for the ride, many others on a fixed income find themselves in Las Vegas all along and getting married all by themselves. For my wife and I, our marriage was a second one - so there was really not a need to gather both sides of our family together for yet another marriage ceremony. For those of you who want your marriage to not only be enjoyable, but private - there is no better place than Las Vegas to begin your life together.

Pros/Cons Of TSA Groping Airline Passengers

I was wondering when the America public would finally get their fill of the US federal government invading their privacy every time they fly commercially. That day finally arrived yesterday when a video of the type of treatment millions of Americans are receiving in airports was put on display by a single San Diego traveler - who did not want to be groped or suffer radiation via a full body scanner before boarding an airline flight. Most Americans either from the political left or right have become disgusted with the amount of rights all Americans are forced to give up just to take a commercial airliner from point A to B.

So what are the pros and cons of allowing the TSA to physically and virtually grope millions of US airline travelers each and everyday? While there are many cons to this practice, there is only one reason on the pros side and that is to protect US airline passengers from another terrorist attack like the ones that happened on September 11, 2001. Like with all other events in history, the American people will usually approve of such invasions right after a terrible event happens - but with "911" more than nine years old, good old American rebellion has returned and that in and of itself is a good thing.

The biggest thing on the cons side of allowing the groping of US airline passengers is the huge evasion of privacy that inflicts on the 99.9% of the traveling public who pose no threat to anyone. In usual government style, honest Americans must be put through these invasive searches just to prove that everyone in an airport is being treated fairly. Sadly, the federal government has been stopped by the courts from effectively using profiling as a tool to protect the traveling public. As the holiday travel season gets closer, there will be more protest and disruptions at US airports as infrequent travelers are in for the shock of their lives when a total stranger wants to grope them, before boarding a flight to go home and celebrate the holiday's with friends and family.

Pros/Cons Of Second Obama Term

Soon, Barack Obama will reach the halfway point of his first term as President of the United States and that means enough time has passed to examine the pros and cons of him seeking a second term as our leader. Right now, with the United States still mired in a recession and tens of millions of Americans upset that Obama changed health care in a way they did not like - it seems that the cons to a second President Obama term far outweigh the pros for him seeking reelection. That said, we need to all remember how messed up Washington became under President Bush and a GOP Congress - before we turn out the lights on a second term victory by President Obama.

It could very well be that the political winds in the country will turn what is now a huge con for President Obama winning reelection in 2012 into just as big of a pro as the Republicans found themselves with just a few short weeks ago in the 2010 midterms. The American people are quickly turning their backs on both the Republican and Democratic Party's and in large numbers we have become a nation of independent voters who do not declare ourselves loyal to either major party. That type of political landscape makes it impossible to know whether or not President Obama will be held in high esteem with independent voters in 2012 or not.

Two years ago, the major liberal news media all but declared the GOP dead in future elections. However, 24 months later - the Republicans won the 2010 midterm elections with the highest numbers in decades. So, the big question is - will the Democrats turn the tables on the Republicans in two years and toss out the now conservative leaning US Congress? While there are pros and cons of Obama seeking a second term as our President, before the Republicans have a chance to self-destruct after taking office in January - it's far too soon to know how the growing influence of independent voters will effect the next presidential election in 2012.

Pros/Cons Of Dallas Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones

Few people in the NFL receive as much bad fan publicity as does Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. Ever since Jerry Jones bought the Dallas Cowboys, there have been pros and cons to his leadership style. As a Dallas Cowboys fan for almost four decades, I have to come down hard on the cons side in saying that there are few pros in having Jerry Jones as the owner of the Dallas Cowboys football team.

Cowboys' owner Jerry Jones is one of the most narcissistic people I have ever seen. While in relationships and other areas of life narcissism is a negative, when owning and running a multi-million dollar NFL team like the Dallas Cowboys it does tend to help the organization more than it hurt. All narcissist's have one thing in common and that is they always believe their minds are more advanced than the average person. I believe Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones honestly believes that he is one of the top NFL football minds in the nation.

While I believe that the cons far outweigh the pros of Jerry Jones continuing to own the Dallas Cowboys, the one and only person who is capable of making that decision is the Cowboys' owner himself. Later today, new Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett will make his debut as the on-field leader of the team. Right now, I doubt if Jason Garrett's leadership will do much to improve the win/loss ratio of the Dallas Cowboys, but who knows maybe I will be pleasantly surprised? That said, the one thing that would help the Dallas Cowboys win more games than anything else would be for Jerry Jones to sell "America's Team" to an owner who is less hands on.

NY Reporter Claims Dallas Cowboys Are Dead Men Walking

It's terrible when a reporter from the city of the team you are about to play refers to your team as "Dead Men Walking". However, that description does fit the 2010 Dallas Cowboys as they have played like and earned the reputation as to worst team in the NFL in 2010. As a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan for decades, I would normally be upset when a reporter from NYC talked that way about my favorite team. However, in 2010 - the Dallas Cowboys have played so terrible that their head coach was fired in the middle of the season.

Now, the Dallas Cowboys have a new head coach - but sadly that person has been responsible for calling all the offensive plays this season which have lead to a total disaster. While some, like Troy Aikman, say that judging new Dallas Cowboys coach Jason Garrett on his performance for the rest of the season is wrong, I say it is not - because Mr. Garrett has been a part of the Cowboys organization for many years now. The Dallas Cowboys need new blood at head coach, starting quarterback and most importantly at team owner. Two out of those three are possible and owner Jerry Jones needs to start cleaning house at Valley Ranch.

Little Things Mean A Lot To Electorate (Boehner To Fly Commercial)

It was announced today, that when Congressman John Boehner takes the gavel as the next "Speaker of the House of Representatives", he will not travel back and forth to his district via a private Air Force Jet like Nancy Pelosi did. Instead, he will take a commercial flight like he has always done. Most certainly, this is a small step to save the taxpayers some money - but to an angry electorate, Boehner's choice will be received as welcome news.

Even today, the contrast between incoming "Speaker of the House" John Boehner and outgoing "Speaker" Nancy Pelosi is like the difference between day and night. Even after costing her party more seats in this years election than has happened since the days of FDR, she is celebrating her accomplishments and plans to run for Minority Leader in the next Congress. The saddest part of this story is that most of the Democrats left in the "US House of Representatives" are likely to vote for her again to lead their party into the future.

Republicans, like John Boehner, must be ecstatic at the prospect of Nancy Pelosi returning to Congress next year in a leadership position. In fact, the best thing that has happened to the GOP in decades has not been their new ideas about cutting government waste and spending, but the way in which Nancy Pelosi reminds millions of people back home just how stupid pure liberalism is at it's core. With Pelosi out of the leadership in Congress, there would have been more pressure put on Boehner and other GOP leaders to make drastic cuts to save their jobs in two years. However, Nancy Pelosi is the gift that just keeps on giving to Republicans - as she drives her democratic party head-long into a bottomless Abyss.

You Can't Always Believe What You See (LA Missile Launch)

Yesterday morning, I woke up to the same news that everyone else did of a missile launch having been video taped by a television station in LA. I had no reason then to doubt my own eyes as I watched what looked like a rocket ship traveling from east to west originating about 30 miles of the coast of California. After watching what I thought to be an intercontinental missile being fired from a submarine at sea, I became worried that some sinister nation was trying to send a message to the United States by launching that kind of missile right off our western coastline.

Then on Tuesday night, I discovered a website that has proven to me beyond a shadow of a doubt that what was video taped by that television station in LA on Monday night via helicopter, was nothing more than an optical illusion. We human beings place a lot of faith in our own two eyes when it comes to what we see and witness. However, anyone in the field of law enforcement will tell you that eye witness testimony is the worst kind of evidence to rely upon.

Monday nights suspected intercontinental missile launch in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Los Angeles seem to now be proven nothing more than an optical illusion produced from the contrail of a normal jet aircraft traveling from Hawaii to Phoenix, Arizona. It does call into question the video taken by one television news crew aboard a helicopter at sunset in one of the most populated areas of the world, when the only video or eye witness accounts of this event came from a single news organization. If you would like to review the video evidence proving that this was nothing more than a jet contrail, click here.

One Down Two To Go Before Dallas Cowboys Revival

One of the big three people who needed to be fired by Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones got the boot yesterday. After saying one week earlier that he did not want to make a coaching change at mid-season, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones fired his head coach Wade Phillips on Monday. As I wrote yesterday, there are three people at the top of the Dallas Cowboys organization who need to be fired - so we are one down and two to go before a Cowboys' revival can begin.

Sadly, the new head coach of the Dallas Cowboys (Jason Garrett) is one of the three people I think needs to be fired before the Cowboys can start over with a winning attitude. The decision to fire Jason Garrett will be more difficult for Jerry Jones, because he (Jones) has poured money and time into grooming him for the head coaching job for years. A few years ago, I was a Jason Garrett believer - but his play calling on the Dallas Cowboys offense, in 2010, has been worse than terrible.

The third person who needs to be fired from the Dallas Cowboys is starting quarterback Tony Romo. Over the decades that I have cheered and supported the Cowboys team, every time they have been successful - there has been a top tiered quarterback leading them (examples Roger Staubach & Troy Aikman) . Over the past three years, Tony Romo has proven to me that while he is a very good quarterback - he is never going to be great. When I think about how Tony Romo plays on the football field for the Dallas Cowboys, my mind goes back to other players like Don Meredith and Craig Morton. While all three (Romo, Meredith and Morton) were all good NFL quarterbacks, none of them were great.

Will Conan O'Brien Survive New Show On TBS?

Last night, former NBC "Tonight Show" host Conan O'Brien started the next chapter in his career with a new show on TBS cable. As most people remember, NBC suits unceremoniously demoted Conan O'Brien about six months ago after Jay Leno's 10pm gig failed and they picked Jay to return to his former 11:30pm time slot. After all the shouting was over, Conan O'Brien was paid millions of dollars to leave NBC and this week is the first time he (O'Brien) has been allowed by contract to host his on television show again.

Make no mistake - there are die-hard Conan O'Brien fans, but I am not one of them. In fact, during his short tenure as the NBC "Tonight Show" host - Conan's ratings were never as high as Jay Leno's were before him. While I believe Conan O'Brien will attract a large television audience during the first few weeks of his new show on TBS, I doubt if his ratings will even approach those of Jay Leno on the current "Tonight Show" - nor do I believe that his ratings will hold over the long haul. While there is a following for the type of humor Conan O'Brien provides, I do not believe there are enough people in the United States with cable who will tune into his show night after night on TBS.

Last weekend, my wife and I went to see a terrible movie which will remain nameless. In the lead up to that movie, there was a commercial shown at the theater for Conan O'Brien's new TV show where he fills a car full of explosives and then drives it off a cliff. Sadly, that commercial did not sell the new Conan O'Brien show that well and the guy sitting behind me said - that guy on the screen does not even look like Conan O'Brien. I wish Conan O'Brien luck, because I believe he was royally screwed by NBC television. However, that fact in and of itself will not persuade me to watch his new TV show either.
