RIP Charles Durning

A great actor passed away today. His name was Charles Durning and he was 90-years-old. I watched Mr. Durning in more movie than I can count and I love the way he made his roles seem completely natural.

Only yesterday, my wife and I watch him in a movie called "Home for the Holiday's". Over the years, that movie has become an annual tradition for us. His portrayal as the father of a family of crazy people brings me to laughter ever time I watch the movie.

While Charles Durning was referred to as a character actor, to me he was always the star of the show when he appeared in a movie. May God bless his family during this time of grief. The world lost a great actor today and I am sad at his passing.

Liberal News Media Rabid About Gun Control

The past few days I've watched more angry news anchors and reporters than I've seen in many years. The reason they are angry is because President Barack Obama is not pushing harder for more gun control in the United States. No one issue galvanizes liberal Americans more than gun control.

For a couple of decades, there has been no political will in the Congress or the White House to pass new gun control legislation. However - after the mass murder of schoolchildren and teachers in Newtown Connecticut last Friday, gun control activists and their accomplices in the mainstream news media have been brought back to life.

The fact that everyone is not rolling over and rushing to join the gun control bandwagon is angering a bunch of liberals who thought for sure this latest tragedy would change the views of all Americans. I've not seen any polls yet, but it would not surprise me if most of the American people were still opposed to new gun restrictions in the United States.

Increasing gun control is nothing more or less than a feel good action that will have no real affect on the problem. Liberal gun control activist are completely brainwashed and cannot see a solution to the problem of violence that does not include additional gun control. Honestly, there is no way to reason with liberal gun control activist. They believe what they believe and they are not going to change.

With the exception of Fox News, I've not seen a single network newscast talk about how more guns might help this problem. The more gun control propaganda being put out by ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC and CNN is at a fever pace and opinions that do not support their narrative that gun control must happen now is not even reported.

The far left and their friends in the mainstream news media are once again making a huge mistake in believing a majority of the American people will just follow their lead without asking any questions. I have a feeling there will be more angry news anchors and reporters in the upcoming days as new polls show most Americans are not being led on gun control by the New York Media.

Both Sides Want To Fall Off Fiscal Cliff?

It is beginning to look like President Obama and GOP leaders in the U.S. House of Representatives are not going to reach a compromise before massive tax hikes and spending cuts take effect the first of the year. Could it be this has been their plan all along?

All Republicans and Democrats have to do is nothing right now and then rush once all of this takes effect on the first of the year to put another band aid on the problem and kicked the can down the road once again. It's hard to believe any of these folks can cash their paychecks without looking down in shame.

Only in Washington, DC does anyone call a reduction in the rate of increase an actual spending cut. What is being proposed right now are real tax increases on wealthy Americans, but none of the so called spending cuts are real. Instead, they all involve lowering the rate of increase in future years.

When it comes to spending cuts, Republicans are big on rhetoric but they're just as afraid as Democrats when it comes down to stating what they actually want to cut. Even so called GOP cuts spending hawks are nothing of the kind. Even they only want to reduce the amount of increases that will go into effect in future years.

Every day it becomes more likely that the United States of America will fall off the fiscal cliff come January 1 2013. Will that be such a bad thing? It will be worse for some more than for others, but in the end there will be those of us who can afford to pay and those who cannot. Happy New Year everyone!

Teacher Victoria Soto Real Hero

There are some people who believe America's best days are behind us. Others have fallen victim to the partisan 24/7 cable news coverage that is always searching for who is to blame for the bad news of the day.

I am an optimist and in being so constantly look for young people who will carry this great nation forward into the future. 27-year-old Victoria Soto is a shining example that America's best days are not behind us.

You may have heard of Victoria on the news, she was one of the brave teachers in Newtown Connecticut who used her body to save six and seven year old children when a shooter entered their protected space and opened fire on everyone in sight.

Soto was laid to rest today in Connecticut only six days short of Christmas. She was honored in death for her heroic acts. Before last Friday, I doubt if Victoria Soto considered herself that much difference than anyone else. However, she turned out to be so much more.

The next time you fill down and concerned that America's finest days are behind us, turn off your television set - stop listening to the naysayers and focus your attention on the selfless acts of Victoria Soto and then know there are a good supply of young Americans ready, willing and able to take this great land into the future.

Obama Wants Gun Control & More

President Barack Obama said through his press secretary on Tuesday that he supports the assault weapons ban proposed by California Senator Dianne Feinstein. Frankly, that's not a big surprise to me. However, he also stated that gun control is not the only thing he will be proposing to try and stop the mass murder of American citizens by long wolf assassins.

As I've stated before, til there is some kind of a reasonable solution to treat or incarcerating mentally ill people - this problem will not end. Of course, once the United States of America starts rounding up people who seem different from the majority - a whole new can of worms will be opened up that will make things even worse. It's much easier for politicians to support gun control than it is to get into the minds of the evil people who commit such terrible acts.

It's politically convenient to point to something simplistic like gun control and then stand in front of microphones and claim that a problem has been solved when in reality nothing of the kind has taken place. As I wrote yesterday, many Americans are terrified that the U.S. government will start rounding up people claiming they have mental problems simply because their actions make others feel uncomfortable. The truth is, most of the time, these mass murders seemed perfectly normal to other people until they go on their killing sprees.

On one subject I do agree with those on the side of more gun control in the United States. Assault weapons should be banned just a matter of common sense. Even if there were no mass killings, there is no logical reason why any America needs an assault weapon to protect their home and family. That said, banning assault weapons is not going to solve this problem. Most of the people who travel to public venues and take out their rage by killing others are extremely intelligent.

Such people would find it easy to create their own homemade bombs or buy gasoline or other combustibles to take the lives of as many people as possible. When people see a problem most of them want to just find a simple solution that will not affect their life that much at all. There are no simple or easy solutions when it comes to stopping the madness of others. I think we need to focus on trying to lower the death toll until mental health experts come to consensus on what law enforcement should look for in suspects to prevent the next massacre.

Americans Fear Mental Illness Stereotyping

There is no doubt that new laws must be passed to better deal with the psychotic actions of people who are mentally ill in America today. Down deep inside, we all know that it is not guns or video games or a lack of prayer in the public schools causing these massacres of innocent people. Instead, it is severe mental illness and a healthcare system that is not equipped to deal with the problem.

The truth is most Americans fear mental health stereotyping more than being a victim of a shooting. History is littered with stories of people labeled as mentally ill simply because they are different from what is considered the norm. Even today, there are Americans who wrongly believe homosexuality is a mental illness. Sadly, there will always be people using mental illness to try and control the behavior of others they disagree with.

In school I remember reading about the Salem Witch Trials hundreds of years ago. Back then, even the accusation that a person was a witch caused them to be burned at the stake. Has human nature really change that much over the centuries? I think not. Sadly we humans continue to make the same choices over and over again expecting a different result. So I think it's likely if tougher mental health laws are passed in the wake of the school shootings in Newtown, Connecticut - there is a high likelihood millions of Americans who are different from the majority will likely be considered mentally ill and punished.

So what can really be done to stop massacres in shopping malls, movie theaters and public schools? First I do not think you will ever stop them all. Some politicians and gun control activists believe that banning all firearms will magically solve the problem. I do not agree. In the final analysis, since mankind will not come up with laws and treatments that focus solely on real mentally ill people - these tragic crimes will continue.

The only thing we can change is the ever increasing death toll. Whether it be more police officers in public locations or more of our citizens carrying concealed firearms or more magnetometers in high traffic venues, something must be done to lower the numbers of people who are killed.

The real solution is the treatment or incarceration of mentally ill sociopaths who do not have compassion for others. However, since there is a high likelihood that tougher mental health laws will be abused and used against innocent people - reducing the numbers of people killed should be the current focus of politicians and law enforcement.

More & Less Gun Control Needed

In the United States there are two groups of political leaders who make decisions that affect all of us and most of those choices are made strictly from a liberal or conservative viewpoint. That is why now in the aftermath of school shootings in Newtown, Connecticut - half of those leaders want stricter gun control laws while the other half do not want any changes.

I certainly think that there needs to be more gun control laws when it comes to assault weapons. There's no reasonable situation when any American would need such a firearm to protect his or her home and family. However, history has shown that once gun control activists win a small victory, they always come back for more and that is why some people still oppose the banning of assault weapons in the United States.

I believe there is a possible compromise that would allow President Obama and conservatives in the Congress to come together and ban assault weapons without gun control activists rushing back to Washington to try and ban even more guns, later. This compromise would require both sides to get something, while at the same time giving up something that is very important to them. In addition, this idea might actually save the lives of people in the future.

What I propose is for conservative Republicans to agree to an assault weapons ban in the United States, if liberal Democrats will agree to allow teachers and other adults to carry legally purchased firearms to work and other locations like movie theaters. Neither side would consider this approach an outright victory, but more importantly if a teacher or other staff member was carrying a gun in Connecticut last Friday. There would have been a chance the death toll could have been much less.

I don't think it's by accident these troubled mass murdering individuals always seem to pick locations like movie theaters and public schools where the private carrying a firearms is forbidden by law. Maybe the answer to this growing problem is both more and less gun control in the United States. There may not be any single thing that could be done by anyone to save everyone's life in a future attack, but we darn sure should try to reduce the death toll.

Funerals Begin In Newtown CT For Teachers/Students

Later today - funeral services for the six and seven year old students and the teachers who tried to save them in Newtown, Connecticut begin. It's been a long and sad weekend for most Americans, but our suffering is nothing compared to the pain facing the parents of those murdered kids and the teachers who gave their lives to save them.

From what I know, the small community of Newtown only has one funeral home. If that turns out to be the case, it could be a week to 10 days before all of the murdered children and teachers are laid to rest. How will these families' begin to put their lives back together again after such a terrible tragedy? I don't know the answer that question. However, there will be friends and family standing by to offer whatever help is needed.

I watched a television program over the weekend where a father of one of the child victims offered his sympathy to the family of the shooter. The compassion of that one man brought me to tears. Even through his anger and deep despair he was able to separate the difference between a mentally ill 20 year old murderer and his family who will never be the same - because of the actions of one of their members.

Mental health professionals often talk about the need to forgive as the first step toward regaining control over one's life. Without forgiveness, victims tend to drift into a dark hole of depression and self destructive behavior. While it is easy for me to logically state the positive benefits of forgiveness, in reality it could take decades or even never for some of these parents to reach that point in life.

Soon the shock of what happened in Newtown, Connecticut on Friday will turn to anger. It is during the anger phase of grieving when the souls of these parents and the spouses of the teachers will be potentially the most self destructive. Some of these folks will recover and spend the rest of their life sad, but okay. Others will never recover and will eventually pass from this earth still suffering from depression and anger. May God grant all of them peace.

What Kind Of Change Is President Obama Proposing?

President Barack Obama spoke to the American people on Sunday night and said that America must change. He did not elaborate on what kind of change is needed to prevent more senseless bloodshed in schools and public locales around the country, but the mere fact that he used the word change will likely be good news for gun control advocates and bad news for millions of Americans who do not believe the Federal government should interfere with their right to own and bear arms.

My personal guess is that President Obama will try to put together a congressional coalition to ban assault weapons in the United States. For those of you too young to remember, there used to be an assault weapons ban in the United States. However, it was allowed to expire by the U.S. Congress, because it did not reduce the numbers of people killed by crazed gunman while it was in effect. I hope this is not the path President Obama decides to pursue.

Frankly, I doubt President Obama will be able to find enough votes in the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives to pass any kind of new gun control legislation. Ever since President Obama was elected the first time, millions of Americans have bought additional firearms because they believed he would try to take their guns away. Now if he proposes to ban assault weapons, there will be another rush to purchase firearms before any new law takes effect.

I believe President Obama should focus all of his energy and political capital on drafting new laws to address a mental health crisis that is always present in these mass murder cases. The State of Connecticut already has stronger gun control laws than most other states in the country. It is political rhetoric and not a desire to find good solutions that guide the United States pro gun control lobbyist and politicians.

There is already a huge political divide between the blue states, where most urban Americans reside and red states where small towns and family farms are the norm. If President Obama decides to line up in lock step with liberal gun control activist from blue state America, he could doom any future hope at finding compromise on any issues where central and southern state Members of Congress are needed for passage.

I'm still holding out hope that President Barack Obama will downplay the need for additional gun control measures and focus like a laser beam on tackling the real cause, which are thousands of mentally ill people who need treatment and not getting it today. Americans who refuse to deal positively in improving their own mental health must be forced into treatment programs or these senseless killings will continue to happen.

President Barack Obama Will Work To End Violence

The President of the United States just concluded an address to the citizens of Newtown, Connecticut. In his speech, President Barack Obama promised to do all he can to stop this senseless violence. The commander in chief of the United States of America does have the power to start making changes even without new laws passed by Congress.

Finding, treating and understanding what is in the mind of these mass killers is at the heart of learning how to stop them. President Obama made that point loud and clear during his address tonight. Unlike some liberal pundits and democratic politicians, the President did not say that gun control was the only way to solve this problem. Instead, he seemed willing to listen to all sides in order to find a solution that will actually work.

It's sad to say, in the short term, nothing President Obama or the Congress does will make that much difference. Problems facing the mentally ill have been left to fester in an indifferent society for far too long now and no amount of money, leadership or goodwill is going to produce a quick and positive outcome. However, something needs to be done and it will be if politicians keep their focus on fixing sick minds and not on feel good issues like more gun control or putting prayer back into the public schools.

For far too long the United States healthcare system has thrown pennies at mental issues, while at the same time paying out millions of dollars in benefits for other ailments. The time has come for insurance companies and the U.S. Federal government to treat mental health issues in the same way they do cancer and heart disease.

I'll bet if you are honest with yourself, you personally know someone who is mentally ill right now who is not receiving treatment. It is easier to just laugh off the crazy behavior of friends and family who are living in a land of their own creation - than it is to make sure they are treated for some kind of mental health issue.

The process of changing laws and opinions in regards to the treatment of mentally ill Americans is going to be a long and drawn out battle. However, the President is right that the time to begin this process is now.

California Senator Dianne Feinstein's Ban Assault Weapons Law

Senator Dianne Feinstein from California announced on Sunday she will introduce legislation into the United States Senate to ban assault weapons. While this might sound like good news to gun control proponents, if you listen closely to what she said there are over 900 exemptions built into the law. Honestly, why is she wasting the time of the American people passing a law that has no hope of saving even one life.

Left wing politics are driving Feinstein and other democratic leaders to pass any kind of gun control law in the aftermath of the terrible school shootings in Newtown, Connecticut on Friday. The American people have made it quite clear over the last decade or two that they do not want the U.S. Federal government taking away their rights to own and bear arms granted under the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

Liberal politicians like Senator Dianne Feinstein are still under the mistaken belief that it is the lobbying efforts of the National Rifle Association which are the driving force behind a reluctant Congress to impose additional gun restrictions on the public. In reality - political leaders in the Congress know well that a majority of the folks back home, especially in rural areas, do not want the government infringing on their right to own guns.

What has been missing so far from the mainstream media's push for more gun control in the United States is the fact that many Americans believe more guns and not less could reduce the effects of mentally ill people taking out their rage on innocent bystanders. Have you ever notice that these crazy lone gunman always show up at locations where victims are not allowed to carry a firearm for self-defense?

No one in the mainstream media desires to even consider the possibility that additional guns in the hands of the good guys might save more lives than greater gun control. Do you think it is possible, that some of those students and teachers in Connecticut could have been saved if someone in that school legally had a firearm and challenged the shooter? Maybe it would not have made any difference, but it certainly would not have made things worse.

NBC Meet The Press Connecticut Shootings 12/16/2012

I enjoyed watching NBC's "Meet The Press" this morning. NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg was interviewed by David Gregory. In typical style, he was arrogant in his view that only gun control was the answer to stopping violence in America. Mayor Bloomberg spent most of his time on the show talking about how the crime rate in New York City is low because of tough gun control laws.

The political views of Mayor Bloomberg are not shared by a vast majority of the American people. In fact, asking him to deliver the argument for gun control only helps the other side. In that respect, since I believe in the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, putting Mayor Michael Bloomberg out there as a gun control activists was a good thing.

After Mayor Bloomberg's interview the roundtable of political experts debated his comments and the tragic shootings in Newtown, Connecticut on Friday. That part of the show was very interesting, because at least one of the guests firmly pointed to the real problem and that is mental illness and the lack of treatment available to those who are sick.

Another guest on the show, correctly pointed out that rural Americans have completely different opinions about gun control than do their urban counterparts. What most gun control activists failed to point out is the fact that Connecticut has some of the most stringent laws in the country when it comes to the ownership of firearms.

No amount of gun control would have stopped that crazy young man from going on his murderous rampage. If politicians want to do something positive in response to this senseless tragedy, they should authorize more money to treat the mental issues that drive people to even contemplate the mass murder of others.

CBS 48 Hours Saturday Night Gun Control Propaganda

Last night on CBS television the show 48 hours ran a special report about the school shootings in Newtown, Connecticut. While much of the show was based on honoring the victims both young children and teacher heroes -the program began to veer off course to promote more gun control in the United States.

While I agree no private citizen should be allowed to own an assault rifle, the idea of increasing gun control in the United States would not end there. Political partisans who live in the extremes are never satisfied with winning just one battle. Instead, after banning assault rifles they would begin to chip away on the rest of the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

I've made it quite clear in recent blog posts that the real reason why these shootings of innocent victims continue, is based on mental illness and a lack of understanding and treatment of that disease. No one of sound mind, would ever even think about entering an elementary school to murder six and seven year old children unless they were mentally ill.

That said, on a daily basis, Americans are being preached to by political ideologues - who claim to hold the solution to this tragic problem. Trust me, gun control or putting prayer back into public schools will not even begin to address this problem. This is a mental illness issue that should be dealt with by the U.S. government.

Shame on the CBS TV news-magazine show "48 Hours" for playing on the emotions of devastated Americans after Friday's school shootings in Connecticut in order push their political agenda of more gun control in the United States of America. Conservative Republicans are just as wrong when they insist on no gun restrictions, either. I've said it before and I will say it again, the real problem is mentally ill people who have not been treated for psychological problems.

Huckabee Blames School Shootings On Lack Of God In Classrooms

The past few days I've written here about liberal pundits who have used the mass killings in Newtown, Connecticut to further their cause to ban guns in America. Now a prominent conservative figure, Mike Huckabee, has stepped forward to show that the political right is just as screwed up in their solutions to this problem as liberal democrats.

Governor Mike Huckabee announced on Fox News recently that he believes the reason why so many recent school shootings have occurred is because God has been removed from the classroom. It never ceases to amaze me how stupid political leaders on both the left and right are when it comes to realistic solutions.

Mike Huckabee will not be the last conservative Republican to step forward and suggest that it is the fault of secularism in the United States, causing of these terrible school massacres. Why some Christians continue to believe that the Lord God is vindictive is something I do not understand.

I have read the Holy Bible since I was a little boy. Certainly there are scriptures, which point to how God punishes people who are evil. However, to suggest that God has some kind of narcissistic personality and takes his vengeance out on kindergarten age children when human beings don't constantly praise him in school, is nothing less than outright blasphemy.

For the most part, I enjoy listening to what former Governor Mike Huckabee has to say. In fact, I think he is a very smart man. That said, when he and others on the extreme social conservative right refer to almighty God as some kind of self centered deity who enjoys taking out his narcissistic rage on school children - I must part company with him.

Somehow and some way the American public must find a way to distance themselves from the extreme political rhetoric on the far right and left. In the same way that liberal Democrats always look to gun control as the only answer to violence in America, conservative Republicans need to stop blaming a vindictive God for the same problem.

      Mental Illness/Mass Murder In America

Millions of Americans are still in a state of shock one day after almost 20 young children were senselessly murdered in a Connecticut school. All the usual gun control liberals on MSNBC and elsewhere are, once again, not letting this tragedy go to waste.

All day today they have had guest after guest on their network urging more gun control. It's hard to understand how anyone could believe that more gun control would have saved those teachers and children, but there are.

Almost as a footnote, most members of the mainstream news media are not discussing the real problem which is mental illness and the lack of treatment available to those who are sick.

As I mentioned in my post yesterday, it is easier for people to blame guns and a lack of laws than it is to focus on the real issue of mental illness and sociopath personality traits.

That is why this will not be the last of these senseless tragedies to occur. The United States of America has turned into a nation of people who only see solutions to problems from either a conservative or liberal point of view.

Sadly, the treatment and/or incarceration of dangerous mentally ill people does not fall into the political narrative of either conservatives or liberals so the real problem will likely be ignored.

Late this afternoon the names of the people who were killed were released to the public. Listed below are their names and ages.

      CHILDREN
        • Charlotte Bacon, 2/22/06, female (age 6)
        • Daniel Barden, 9/25/05, male (age 7)

        • Josephine Gay, 12/11/05, female (age 7)
        • Ana M. Marquez-Greene, 04/04/06, female (age 6)
        • Dylan Hockley, 03/08/06, male (age 6)
        • Madeleine F. Hsu, 07/10/06, female (age 6)
        • Catherine V. Hubbard, 06/08/06, female (age 6)
        • Chase Kowalski, 10/31/05, male (age 7)
        • Jesse Lewis, 06/30/06, male (age 6)
        • James Mattioli, 03/22/06, male (age 6)
        • Grace McDonnell, 11/04/05, female (age 7)
        • Emilie Parker, 05/12/06, female (age 6)
        • Jack Pinto, 05/06/06, male (age 6)
        • Noah Pozner, 11/20/06, male (age 6)
        • Caroline Previdi, 09/07/06, female (age 6)
        • Jessica Rekos, 05/10/06, female (age 6)
        • Avielle Richman, 10/17/06, female (age 6)
        • Benjamin Wheeler, 9/12/06, male (age 6)
        • Allison N. Wyatt, 07/03/06, female (age 6)
        ADULTS
          • Rachel Davino, 7/17/83, female (age 29)
          • Dawn Hochsprung, 06/28/65, female (age 47)
          • Anne Marie Murphy, 07/25/60, female (age 52)
          • Lauren Russeau, 1982, female (age 29)
          • Mary Sherlach, 02/11/56, female (age 56)
          • Victoria Soto, 11/04/85, female (age 27)
May God bless the souls of those children and their teachers. As Americans we must insist that our political leaders face the fact that mentally ill people must be treated or incarcerated. If new laws are needed, let those laws deal with the real problem and not just some political agenda related to conservative or liberal politics.

Gun Control/More Laws Are Not The Answer To Mass Shootings

Like most of you, I spent a good part of my day yesterday watching the television news coverage of the mass murder that took place in a Connecticut elementary school. Friday's senseless killing of teachers and kindergarten students are just another example of how the United States of America will not accept that some of our citizens are mentally ill and born with sociopath personalities. It's much easier to blame what happened yesterday on an overabundance of guns or lack of laws than it is for us to finally accept that many Americans, some of which are in our own families, are potentially dangerous to others.

It is true, that the easy availability of guns make it easier for mentally ill people to carry out their murderous rampages. However, banning all firearms will not solve the problem. The real problem occurs in the brains of the people who carry out these senseless acts. That brings us back to mental illness. People of all ages have deep rooted fears about mental illness and that is why they always fall back on knee jerk solutions like gun control or more laws, which will never solve the real problems.

In my 50 plus years of life, I have personally witnessed dozens of families who are unwilling or afraid to admit someone they know and love is mentally ill. It's almost as if, people are afraid of what society will think of them if someone in their bloodline is determined to be mentally ill. The sad fact is, there are effective treatments for most mentally ill individuals - but because of stigma and financial reasons the people who need the help do not seek it or do not continue that treatment over the long run.

There are many reasons why individuals and families will not accept the fact that someone they know and love is just not right. Unlike most physical illnesses, problems of a mental nature are viewed with suspicion by most people and worst of all not even considered as real medical problems by some insurance companies. Until a majority of the American people are willing to admit that mental illness exist, these senseless mass murders will continue to occur in greater frequency. Sadly most families', prefer to just sweep these kind of problems under the rug with the hope they will somehow fade away.

30 years ago, it was far too easy to have people who don't seem normal to the masses committed to mental institutions. Then in typical American style, the decision was made by government to ease these rules and in doing so they swung the pendulum too far to the other side. We don't need to go back to locking up people who are different, but we must force treatment on sociopath personalities because of their ability to cause so much pain and suffering to others. This will not happen, until a majority of the American people accept the fact that mental illness is a real medical problem and not just something that happens to other families.

Federal Reserve Is Digging A Hole Of Debt

Like most of you, I worry about how much debt the U.S.A. is accumulating right now.

Is The GOP On The Wrong Side Of History?

I am a middle aged white man who has supported the GOP for most of my life. That said, in recent years I have began to wonder if the Republican Party is not in the process of self-destruction considering the growth of non-white voters and the amount of phobia toward other races within the GOP?

The modern day Republican Party looks in no way the same as when Ronald Reagan served as President. Over the past couple of decades, the GOP nationally has turned into a white mans party that not only fears change, but is militant in that view. Personally, I believe the GOP began to self-destruct when social conservatives were elevated to higher power than the fiscal conservatives within the party who have always been there.

The dirty little secret that no one in the Republican Party wants to publicly acknowledged is that many social conservatives are nothing more than angry white men who do not like other races sitting in leadership positions. In fact, many of these social conservatives believe that God looks just like them and everyone else does not measure up to that vision.

In some ways, these angry white men believe that if the power of minorities are allowed to continue to grow - at some point in time those minorities will treat them with the same indignity that has been dished out for years against them. Make no mistake, the level of dislike and fear of minorities in Republican ranks is much greater in social conservative circles than with the voters who want to see the US government live within its financial means.

National elections are no different than most other things in life. Either the math is on your side or it is not. Simply put, the math of large numbers of voters is not on the side of the GOP and its social conservative followers, so the party itself could be shutout of presidential elections for many years to come. Over 100-years-ago, Abraham Lincoln and the Republican Party were on the right side of history when they abolished slavery. However, today that political party that freed the slaves looks nothing like it did back then.

Romney/Obama Appear On 60 Minutes Sunday Night

In 2012, the die-hard core supporters of President Obama and Governor Romney are making their final attempt to convince the folks in the middle that the country will be better off with their brand of ideology rather than the other. Those voters in the middle who always decide presidential elections are usually lied to by both liberals and conservatives in order to move the country either further to the left or right.

It has been decades since a real moderate was elected President of the United States. Four years ago, I was convinced that Barack Obama was a real moderate. However, in the end he was just another liberal who used a slick presentation of lies to fool moderate American voters. President Bush ran as a moderate too and once he took office he ran to the far right and never returned to the middle ground he claimed to believe in during his first election.

If you took the time to watch 60 Minutes on Sunday night, you saw the entire hour devoted in equal parts to Mitt Romney and Barack Obama. Sadly, nothing really new was revealed by either man. Both campaigns are completely govern by talking points that will cost them the least and offer them the most potential of winning over moderate voters.

I have always believed that the United States would be better served as a three party nation. Recently, far right conservatism has completely controlled the GOP. While at the same time, far left liberalism dominates the democratic party. I believe there are more moderates in the United States than conservatives and liberals, but those voters just don't have a political party to call their own.

I think there is a small chance that if elected Mitt Romney will lead from a position of moderation, but who knows what he will do if he takes office? Both President Obama and Governor Romney change their positions on issues depending on who they are campaigning to that day. Right now, I know President Obama is a far left liberal. However, Mitt Romney is still a big unknown in political ideology and that makes it likely he will earn my vote in November.

Dallas Cowboys Did Not Look Strong In Tampa Bay Victory

While I am happy that the Dallas Cowboys won their game today against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, in reality they played poorly and would not have won if they had played a better team. I know that Jason Witten had a medical problem several weeks ago, but after a couple of games when he dropped easy to catch balls - I wonder what is going on with him?

It was so easy to hope that the major problems facing the Cowboys the past few years were over, after watching them defeat the New York Giants in game one of 2012. However, those feelings of happiness were short lived after the Seattle Seahawks destroyed them in game two and their small victory over the Buccaneers today did not do anything to make most fans feel better about the team.

I continue to wonder why Jerry Jones does not fire Tony Romo and find a great quarterback to lead the Cowboys into the future? There is a huge difference between a good quarterback and a great one. Tony Romo is good, but not great and that is why the team should cut its losses and draft someone for the future in the caliber of RG3 or Andrew Luck.

There is no reason why the Dallas Cowboys are not in contention for the Superbowl every single year. The team is one of the richest in the NFL and the fan base for the Cowboys is greater than any other team. The Cowboys face a foundation problem, similar to stories in the bible which refer to building a house on shifting sand. There is no steady foundation under the Dallas Cowboys and that is why the team continues to falter as each season progresses.

There are bright spots on the Dallas Cowboys team and those include Miles Austin and Kevin Ogletree. Both Austin and Ogletree show up each week ready to play football, but it takes more than two players to have a great team in the NFL. As has been the case for years, the core problem with the Dallas Cowboys is owner Jerry Jones. His huge ego and inability to hire a head coach with potential will continue to produce substandard teams for the foreseeable future.

Replay Of Endeavor's Flight Over Golden Gate Bridge

There were cheers and tears as the Space Shuttle Endeavor flew over the Golden Gate Bridge yesterday in San Francisco. The Endeavor is the last of a fleet of Space Shuttles to be retired by NASA as government run exploration into space comes to an end. As I sat at home and watched the Endeavor fly over the Golden Gate Bridge secured to the top of a 747, tears came to my eyes.

There are millions of Americans who are upset that the US government has given up on space travel. However, with our current economy and run away government spending - something had to go and it appears that NASA's head was on the chopping block this time. I have always believe that money paid by the government was always a good investment when funneled toward space, but apparently the powers that be in Washington do not feel the same way.

Replay Of Carly Rose Sonenclar Audition X-Factor 2012

Carly Rose Sonenclar is a 13-year-old girl who blew away the judges and millions of TV viewers on the 2012 edition of the "X-Factor USA". Carly sang the song "Feeling Good" by Nina Simone. It is clear watching the video clip above that Simon Cowell and the other judges on the X-Factor were not prepared for the amount of talent inside this young artist.

As young Carly Rose Sonenclar finished singing, over 4000 people in the audience at X-Factor 2012 were on their feet cheering for more. Included in that number were four stunned judges who could not believe what they just heard. If you missed watching Carly sing on the X-Factor, you may still watch her amazing performance via a video replay in the box above.

Replay Of Obama About Romney's 47% Comments At Fund Raiser

Yesterday, a video was released on YouTube of GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney talking to a group of high priced fund raisers a few months ago. Today, President Barack Obama produced an ad denouncing what Romney had to say and then added even more negative impressions of the Republican candidate for President.

In 2008, I supported and voted for President Barack Obama. However, in 2012 - I do not have the same level of support for his reelection campaign. Over the past three and one half years, Obama has proved himself to be an old fashion liberal - instead of a man of the people moderate that was portrayed in 2008. This election is turning out to be very dirty and should also be very close on Election Day.

Replay Of Romney Talking About People Who Won't Vote For Him

"Mother Jones" released a video from a fund raiser held by GOP candidate for President Mitt Romney today. In that video, he talks about how 47% of the people will never vote for him - because they are victims and totally dependent on the government. Surely, Romney does not believe his own words?

My guess is that like he has done many times before, Governor Romney was just telling an audience what he thought they wanted to hear. Included in Romney's 47% figure are people on Social Security and I'm pretty sure most of those folks do not consider themselves victims and certain not all of them support President Obama.

Replay Of Boy Reunited With Childhood Toy

Recently, on the Today Show, there was a heart warming story about a little kid who was reunited with a toy that was lost years earlier. The name of the toy was "Ah Ha". While I always have my doubts as the the authenticity of these types of videos, this one did make me smile even though I'm pretty sure that the kid and his mother were doing a pretty good job of acting during the video.

With the invention of YouTube and other video sharing services, faking these types of heart warming clips is at an all time high. However, even if something is fake, it does not mean that we cannot enjoy the show. In reality, we all spend money all the time to watch movies and other entertainment that is nothing more than fantasy in order to make us fell better.

American Idol New Judges Urban & Minaj (Video)

The hit TV show American Idol on Fox has changed its judges. It's no secret the show has suffered ratings losses the past two seasons after Simon Cowell left to host another talent show called the X-Factor. In 2012, there will be three relatively new judges on Idol. Mariah Carey, who is married to the host of America's Got Talent Nick Cannon, will begin her second season.

The two newest judges on American Idol are Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban. Those two replace Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler who left at the end of last season. Most entertainment experts have been predicting the end of American Idol for many years now. However, I still like the show and it could continue for many more years as long as the producers keep the content and the judges fresh.

          Cowboys/Seahawks Game A Total Blowout

It was a long Sunday afternoon for Dallas Cowboys fans as the Seattle Seahawks soundly defeated them. Only 10 days after the Cowboys started the 2012 season with a hard fought victory over the New York Giants, this afternoon fans saw their smiles from week one quickly vanishing into a sea of gloom.

So what should we expect from the Dallas Cowboys in 2012? Will their excellent play in week one prevail for the balance of the season or will they fall apart and end this season like so many others over the past decade? There are two major problems with the Dallas Cowboys, the first one is unsolvable - but the other one could be fixed if the team wish to do so.

The biggest challenge facing the Dallas Cowboys in 2012 is the same problem the team has had since Jimmy Johnson was fired. That problem is owner Jerry Jones. It became clear soon after the Cowboys became yearly champions in the mid-1990's that Jerry Jones' ego was too fragile for him to hire a great coach to take the Cowboys back to the Superbowl. The one person who needs to be fired the most from the Cowboys organization is the only person who cannot be fire, owner Jerry Jones.

The second problem is Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo. He can and should be fired so the team can hire a real leader for the future. While there are moments of pure genius in Romo's play, when the going gets tough - he often times does not rise to the challenge facing the team. While replacing Romo would help the Cowboys in future years, as long as Jerry Jones owns the team - Superbowl's will likely be only something the Dallas Cowboys use to win.

Romney Is The Only Real Moderate In The Race

It is no secret that true blue conservatives are not in love with Mitt Romney. In fact many of them believe it would be just as well, if Obama wins reelection in November. Since I have been encouraging moderation in our President for decades now, maybe Mitt Romney is just what the doctor ordered when it comes to getting something done in Washington?

The last two Presidents were complete partisans. George W. Bush was conservative and Barack Obama is liberal. Over the years, most Americans have come down on one side or the other in their political belief system, while about 1/3 of voters consider themselves politically moderate. Ask yourself, is the USA better off today moving back and forth between liberalism and conservatism or was this a greater country when both sides worked toward compromise?

Compromise use the be the way things got done in Washington. However, in recent times - the only way progress is made is when conservatives or liberals control the White House and both Chambers of Congress. In fact, in both conservative and liberal circles - the very idea of compromise with the other side is consider an act of weakness or even worst something akin to a betrayal.

Mitt Romney is the only real moderate to win the nomination of his party to run as President in many years. While I have reservations about Romney's flip-flopping on important issues, if elected he is likely to compromise with Democrats in a way that might work. Like many other people, I was sold on Barack Obama's moderate vision of America when he ran in 2008. That campaign was dishonest, but there is a greater chance Romney will lead as a moderate if elected in 2012.

Will Romney Win Because Of Foreign Policy?

Only a few short weeks ago, it appeared that the only major issue in the 2012 race for President was the US economy. However, now that violence has picked up in the Middle East - is it possible that GOP candidate Mitt Romney could win based on his ideas of foreign policy?

As US diplomats were killed in Libya and anti-American protestors attacked US Embassy's in Egypt and other lands, President Barack Obama seemed to lack the type of leadership many Americans voters expect from their commander-in-chief. I still believe most voters will choose the next President more based on their pocketbooks then foreign policy, but the news of the past week definitely benefits Mitt Romney.

Considering the state of the US economy, it's amazing that President Obama is still competitive in his race for reelection. At present, public opinion polls suggest that Obama continues to have a small lead over Romney. Will there be an October surprise in 2012? I think there will be and that surprise will be an attack by Israel on Iran.

The Israeli's have been trying to communicate with President Obama now for several months about their concerns over Iran's promises to destroy the State of Israel. However, Obama seems to be burying his head in the sand when it comes to the real hatred of Iran toward Israel and the United States. Even though President Obama seems to be against an Israeli attack on Iran, such an event would most certainly improve his chances of winning reelection.

Ever since Barack Obama was elected President of the United States, relations between Israel and the USA have become very cold. It's hard for me to understand why any President of the United States would turn his back on our number one friend, but that is exactly what has been happening. Israel is very concerned with nuclear development in Iran, but President Obama does not seem to share that same concern.
